This book is a well-compiled collection of the impact that Jane Goodall has had on people's lives across the globe. To thoroughly appreciate it, it should probably be paired with an actual biography - this was more of a testimony to her (timed to coincide with her 80th birthday) rather than an exposition of her life's work. That being said, there are themes that come up again and again throughout the short essays - how groundbreaking it was for her to name the chimpanzees rather than give them n This book is a well-compiled collection of the impact that Jane Goodall has had on people's lives across the globe. That being said, there are themes that come up again and again throughout the short essays - how groundbreaking it was for her to name the chimpanzees rather than give them numbers, her remarkable ability to listen fully and see/hear others for who they are, an appreciation for whiskey combined with little care for other regular creature comforts, the commitment to changing the world one individual at a time, a passion for nature and the environment, and more. A quick read, but worth it if you find Goodall a person of interest for any reason.

As someone who bounced around a lot from job to job while forging a career - I knew I had one ace-in-the-hole. That was the "If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be" question in interviews. My answer was/is always ALWAYS "Diane Fosey or Jane Goodall". I have always been fascinated with what Jane did and I'm so happy to see her celebrated. This book reads like an extended eulogy and, if I were Jane, I'd be saying "Hold up - I'm not dead YET!!" But, again, it's a great reminder of why I was so enthralled by her all those years ago, and why I always will be. Thanks to Goodreads for letting me enjoy this book. Usually, I "pass it forward" and give my books away after I'm done. But, this one will stay on my bookshelf so everyone can know that this is "Jackie's person she'd choose to dine with...."
