Schneidman starts telling readers the advantages of freelance work and then gives practical advice on finding work. Throughout the book, she gives encouragement that this kind of work is possible if you're willing to put in the time. A big part of her method is making cold calls, which isn't necessarily fun or easy, but she tells readers to view this process of simply letting people know about their excellent services. She recommends that a person value his or her services, time, and skills (with instructions on how to do so), and really, who couldn't benefit from that message?

Filled with helpful, easy to implement tips, this book will teach you how to jump-start your business, determine your service and niche, market your business, bill clients, and more. I liked Schneidman's non-nonsense style and her common sense approach. Many of these tips can be applied to a variety of businesses. If you're thinking about starting your own business, Real Skills, Real Income is a book worth reading. Loved this book! It's definitely a "get-off-your-butt" and "stop-making-excuses" sort of book. The author does a great job of showing how these techniques were effective in her own life. Some of them, like cold-calling, are stomach-cramp inducing but necessary evils that do the job. Confronting fears is a big step on the road to fulfillment! This is probably one of the best business books I have read all year. Highly recommended for freelancers, consultants, and entrepreneurs of all sorts. Loved this book!
