This was a free download and I really wanted to like it, but just couldn't get through it. I made it 30 pages before I called it quits. Characters are shallow and their banter is on the same level as a freshman in high school. This was a free download and I really wanted to like it, but just couldn't get through it. A New Beginning definitely wasn't the book for me. I didn't like the way it was written, I didn't like the characters, I didn't like much about it. So what was wrong with this book for me? Well the writing for one. It was way too overly descriptive about things that didn't matter. There is a section in the beginning where Angel describes in detail her aunts place. Everything from the furniture and where it is placed to the color of the walls which was too much for me. I could have drawn a picture A New Beginning definitely wasn't the book for me. It was way too overly descriptive about things that didn't matter. There is a section in the beginning where Angel describes in detail her aunts place. Everything from the furniture and where it is placed to the color of the walls which was too much for me. I could have drawn a picture of the house and layout which I am not sure why I needed that. It doesn't really come up in the rest of the book so...it is just useless detail. The whole story was like that. Another issue with the writing? When the story changed points of view it would repeat what had just happened. I was just like what is going on the first time. I mean I just read a conversation so I don't need to re-read it again. That and the conversation were a little clinical for me. Really the writing in general was dry and not my style. The other issue with the writing? Too much telling not enough showing or emotional connection. I was told that Angel was in an abusive relationship that she has just left. She had been beaten so badly at one time she was in a coma in the hospital from her ex. So okay, she is an abused women. The issue? She sure doesn't act like one. The author kept telling me when it was convenient, but Angel doesn't seem to have any issues or fear that her ex will find her (until it is good for the story to have her say she is now afraid). She doesn't try very hard to hide where she is going for one thing. Her ex is a detective and she is just like well this is fine. If I just go far enough away, even though it will take him two seconds to find me it will be fine. Then she keeps seeing this odd black SUV parked everywhere and she doesn't really think anything about it. Her porch light is burned out then back on the next day? Eh whatever. It is just like really? She was abused and supposedly afraid of this guy but all this weird stuff happens and it would be really easy for him to find her and she doesn't even think it could be him? Really? She is just over it and not afraid of him? Yep, I believe that. I mean she is living a carefree life when the book opens. She meets Mason and is just really into him and not very reserved about it, not hesitant or anything. She just instantly jumps into something with him. Yeah, that is the way it works. It is always so easy for a woman to get out of an abusive relationship and fall back into a fun filled life of friends and new boyfriends and everything. Yep. Then Mason was a bit odd to me at times. What is his obsession with making sure she locks her doors at night? He always said that to her before he stopped texting her for the night and stuff. I can see sometimes or if it flows, but it was kind of awkward at times and I didn't understand. Even before they were really together he texts her at night making sure she locked her doors. Maybe if he had something that had happened in his past to make him overly protective it would have made sense, but as it was I found it odd. That and he is kind of...he gets what he wants all the time. If Angel is at first hesitant or wants something else she just ends up going along with what he wanted. It wasn't really bad, but a few times I was just like um Mason what are you doing? Like when he pushes his way into her house. He does say that was not the right thing to do, but he had to do something. Well...I don't know. I just didn't love him. Something was odd for me with him. That and he always called her Beauty. Not sure why that bothered me so much as if it would have been Beautiful or something I wouldn't have minded as much, but Beauty just sounded odd to me every time. It just wasn't the book for me. The book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, but I really don't care. I don't even care enough to look and see what happens in the next book. So yeah, not for me. I enjoyed this book and really enjoyed the book towards the end. The reason I had to give 3 stars was for word repetition. Thank you, sandalwood and spice, peaches and cinnamon were getting a little too frequent. (it's probably because of my OCD pregnancy hormones lol) I am looking forward to reading about Mason giving Jim the beating he deserves and see where Angel and Mason' s future takes them. This was a pretty good debut. I am going to say please look at the cover, this is a trilogy, so know it before you begin. There is more to come and sometimes its a double edged sword getting in on book one. It sometimes takes a while to get book 2 and 3 so I don't want to have to re-read this one. Heading to Florida to get away from her ex boyfriend was a life changing moment and for me I like dark so I liked the abuse part. I think it endears Angel a little more. The author also lets Mason be a gentleman. I sort of liked how the character was a doctor and had more bed-side manors than most, he was one of a kind and totally swoon worthy.

I know that rating it 1 star can appear a little harsh but I didn't enjoy the writing and nothing interesting really happened in this book. The beginning sounded interesting and I thought maybe it would get better and something would eventually happen, but no. There were too much "!" and the changes of points of view could be repetitive and confusing. I wasn't really involved or attached to the characters. I totally enjoyed this read, the author keeps you guessing and at times on the edge of your seats. I so fell in love with the characters and can’t wait to read to see how their lives go. I always like to give a recap of what the book is about. This one covers so many areas from abuse to starting over, along with everything in between. When one is scared from an abusive partner it is hard to take that first step to open up and trust a new person, too walk away and start over. This one covers so many areas from abuse to starting over, along with everything in between. When one is scared from an abusive partner it is hard to take that first step to open up and trust a new person, too walk away and start over. The fear is ungodly until you have walked a mile in their shoes you have not a clue. When your heart comes into the picture it is even harder. Who do you turn to, who can you trust with your secret? Everyone who has been in an abusive relationship knows Ms. Kennedy hit the nail on the head with how Angel felt and how she deals with her issues. I found her book to not only be very believable but a very touching story that goes right to your soul. Angel has lost so much from a very young age, her mother at 12. You might as well have said she lost her father the same day. He had trouble moving on with the death of Angel’s mother and turned to drinking. The only one she had to turn to where her one aunt and along with an aunt and uncle. Just when life is starting to turn out great, Angel found love and is starting over. Everything is going well until she moves in with her boyfriend, and then he changes over night into an abusive man. She lives this way for years, almost dying. There is no way out, he will find her and kill her, he has the law behind him he is a policeman who tells her knows how to kill her and hide the body where no one will look. Everyone knows he is the loving man who takes care of her she has hide the abuse so well no one will guess he killed her. Just when things couldn’t get worse Angel favorite aunt is dying. That one aunt will become her life line even in death. With her death her aunt leave everything to her with a note of what she wants her to do with the money. She is sorry she didn’t help her before but now she can start over. Here is where the story really takes off, Angel moves far, far away to get away from said boyfriend and starts over. She makes wonderful friends and meets Dr. Mason Myles but learning to trust and falling in love again will lead to many things for Angel. There is always the issue of will Jim her ex find her and if he does will she live through it. Mason is a sweetie, I doubt there are many women who will not fall in love with this wonderful man. He has trust issues as well from finding his ex in his bed with her lover. There isn’t a lot I can say here without giving the story away but you are so going to love this wonderful character. I love the scene where they met and the day they went out on the boat. Watching them fall for each other was a pleasure. The only issue I had with this book is it is a cliffhanger but that really isn’t too much of an issue for me since book 2 is out and book 3 will be out in a few weeks. The main issue I had was the repeating of things from telling the story from both Angel and Mason view points. If I read it once I do not need to read it again. I do not feel it takes away from the story just a little ignoring for me. Which is why this book was given a 4.5 rating. I loved all the characters, I can’t think of any I hated. I did dislike Jim but he isn’t too much in this book. I do believe we will be seeing him in future books. Some strange thing are happening throughout the book, it has to be one of the ex’s but if that is so which one could it be? By the end of the book the author will have you saying OMG and lord help her. Angel will have a long road to travel before she is safe and hopefully with the man she loves. You will be in tears, praying for not only Angel but Mason as well. The author brings you pain that you feel just as if you are there. You will laugh and you will cry through this wonderful story of reborn, learning to live again why the characters find A New Beginning. I can’t wait to read more of this authors work, her style of writing will keep you hanging and begging for more. This is a book you will have a hard time putting down, plan to start it early or you will be up half the night waiting to find out what happened. I feel this author will grow in her writing style and will have many fans before this series is over. Thank you Ms. Kennedy for writing a truly remarkable story about New Beginnings I do believe I will be adding you to my list of favorite authors…. In fact I loved this series and the authors style of writing so well I have already bought the rest of this series.... The have great chemistry, and a sweet romance. Angel’s past is hard to ignore, as she still struggles to deal with the fears of an abusive boyfriend. Also strange things keep happening which has her on alert. Mason is ever patient as he know she is not telling him all about her past, and he knows she is frightened. Yet he stands by her and is over-protective in every way. He also is the perfect gentleman, waiting for her to finally open up to him. I loved many things about this book. Mason as a great guy, maybe a bit over-protective, but very kind, strong, good-looking, all you want in a leading man. Their love story is sweet, clean, and has you rooting for them all through the book. Mason has great friends, and they also add to the story immensely. What I didn’t enjoy at all about this book was the bad language especially in the beginning of the book. There was quite a bit of swearing, which luckily decreased as the book progressed. Also it was so unnecessary to the storyline. I hate it when authors decide to add this type of language to books. It really brings a book down, instead of lifting it up. I was glad I continued on with this book, as the story gets so much better after this banter finally lets up. I have seen other reviews of this book, where people have stopped reading after the beginning due to this. Such a shame, and maybe something for the author to consider. By taking this out (which I state again, is not necessary to the storyline, and can be conveyed in another way), you can keep everyone interested in the book. I also was really annoyed the book ended in a cliffhanger. I was so into it, and wanted to see it end nicely, but then you are left hanging. I checked, and can now say this is part of a trilogy, so it definitely is a beginning. Overall this was a nice quick read, with great romance, good suspense, and great side characters.

Going to a bar after work she to unwind she stumbles into a handsome man, who is polite and gives her a smile. Mason is a nice handsome friendly doctor, who is getting ready to start a private practice and getting over a cheating ex. The chance meeting at the bar gets him wishing she was his date this weekend and not the blind date his friends set up. Mason is not really feeling this blind date thing and shows up late and suffy. Image his surprise when he sees Angel on the boat as his blind date. He is so excited and happy as he really gets know/like her that they set up a next date. Angel not wanting to get involved can't help but like his sweet charm and gentleman manners.......and his goodness. She feels safe with him and they go on more dates where he proves he is a good guy. Mason really likes her but he doesn't know how much till he saves her life after someone does a hit and run on her.....and he will protect her with his life! This is a well written emotional read that is so charming and sweet. Watching the love bloom between these to is wonderful. But I really loved the old fashionness about their dating in that they were not jumping into bed after the 1st or 3rd date. Just because they are not having sex they are staying faithful and not looking for one night stands to relieve themselves. To me this is old fashioned dating that my grandparents talked about when they fell in love and how dating really should be. This also allows more emotions to show and you get a sense of the deep attachments to family and friends...... A totally awesome read! Looking forward to the other 2 novellas. Great job Brenda Kennedy!

Mason seems to be the best thing that could have happened to her and feelings develop quickly. But when it seems like her ex may have found her she decides that she finally has to come clean about her past and see where things go. Masons last relationship ended badly and he is not sure that he is ready to try again. He grudgingly agrees to go on this blind date not expecting to see the beauty that he had seen the night before. Now he wants nothing more then to be with her. No one seems to know her story from before, and she does not seem willing to open up to him about it yet. When she finally does he is livid. All he wants to do is protect her. It soon becomes obvious that she is in danger he will do everything that he can to make sure that she is safe. My Opinion: If I could give this book more then 5 stars I would. This is the first book that I have read from this author and she has quickly become a favorite. I could not put this book down! There is something beautiful about the relationship between Angel and Mason. Vincent, Donovan and Mason are seriously the perfect men. It had a great story line and well written. And I just have to say that I am just a little bit in love with Mason! I definitely recommend reading. 'Read and Reviewed by LSK Sweetheart Reviews'

3.5 - 4 Stars I want to thank Brenda so much for allowing me to have an ARC and to read her novel. So appreciated. She asked for an honest review and I will give one. It took me a while to build up to the storyline. And my reason? Too much inner dialogue. Quite a few of "I tell them, he tells me, I see, he says." I also felt that at the beginning there were just simplistic sentences. Short. Choppy. A bit of complex/compound would have made for some smoother transitions. Is the past ever really left behind? As the story reaches its climax, the past starts to catch up to Angel. Will Mason be able to help her overcome what haunts her? Will she be able to let him in enough to reveal her past to him? What happens when the past invades the present? This is book 1 of a three part series and does end on a bit of a cliff hanger, as I said it grabbed my attention from the beginning and at the end left me wanting more. The characters just didn't pop out to me straight away, but saying that by the end I loved these characters and I was crying with them, was shocked along with them and laughed with them. For the first 45% not a lot happened. There were slight hints that things could be happening but they were that small that I didn't know if the character was imagining things. Overall this book was a good book once it got going. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series as this book ended on such a cliffhanger.

From the love that fires between Mason and Angel, to the friendship, to the end that will make you tear up. I'm not really into romance novels, but this had it love moments that were just enough cute and not over the top, and some actions to keep someone like me into it. I am honored to have the chance to read this book, even it did bring up some of my past within me. Thank you Brenda!

Such a sweet romance! Angel is trying to make a new life for herself after a very bad relationship with her crazy ex-boyfriend Jim. After a horrible experience with him, she leaves and moves in to her aunt's house in Florida that she left for her. After what she endured, she has trouble opening up to a new relationship, even after meeting Mason and they hit it off right from the start. Mason is protective of her and tries to treat her with all the warmth and kindness she never experienced before Such a sweet romance! The is a good first book and definitely ends on a cliffhanger.

I give this book 5 stars and for very good reason. IS THERE A DREAMY BOOK BOYFRIEND IN THE HOUSE?: This book turned out to be one that will be added to my read it again shelf. It's a refreshingly sweet love story, that I'm not afraid to tell family about for fear of embarrassing them. From the first sentence to the very last I was hooked into the story and pulled along with it through every moment in between. Can not wait for more stories in this series! To answer my first question, YES! MASON! I give this book 5 stars and for very good reason. 3.75 stars******Please point me in the direction of a man like Mason! This was such a great book. Over all the story flows well. There were only a couple of spots where it took me a second to figure out that it was the same scene from a different perspective or a flashback. There are some great supporting characters that add lots of humor and a little bit of crazy to the story. I really enjoyed the way the romance between Angel & Mason grew and evolved throughout the book. I honestly could not s 3.75 stars******Please point me in the direction of a man like Mason! I have not ever liked reading before, unless I could pick by luck a wonderful book that I can't put down. I picked this to read because I personally know the author, and wow has she amazed me. She's got my interest in reading back and that's a big thing for me. I HATE to read, but definitely not when it comes to her and her trilogies. I am ecstatic for her and hoping she continues to keep writing!! This book was amazing. I have not ever liked reading before, unless I could pick by luck a wonderful book that I can't put down. This book ended up drawing me in and kept me thinking about the characters and the events when I wasn't reading it, which you know is the sure-fire indicator of a good book. I came to love stoic, dreamy, protective, romantic Mason; and resilient, strong, happy, charming Angel. Now I'm needing to get my hands on that sequel! I thought the writing style was very much like reading Facebook posts - I did this, then this, and then this. I was disappointed in characters and their shallow development. I love to read "soapy" romances now and then, but this one was simply empty, written in a style of an elementary school student. Mason is the sweetest guy you ever meet. He is a perfect gentleman. I feel so bad for Angel and I hope she gets a happy ending. Mason and Angel are the perfect together. I highly recommend this book and I hope you enjoy it as I did.
