"You Don't Share Me, You Own Me." I'm not sure that I could ever write a review to do this series justice. I saw the movie trailer pop up on tv this morning for the first time, and it looks amazing. Unfortunately, my real life friend I gave the book to didn't appreciate the ugly cry. It's not my fault, I wanted her to see the movie with me:)! "Please Mia, he implores. "Don't make me write a song". The second book was my personal favorite, it's impossible not to fall in love with Adam. "You Don't Share Me, You Own Me." I'm not sure that I could ever write a review to do this series justice. I also feel that the series paints a very accurate picture of my hometown of Portland, Oregon. The characterizations are perfection. Gayle Forman used to live here, and her real life husband inspired the character of Adam:)! My favorite Y/A series.

Why are the ratings so high for this book? there is nothing that compels me to rate it anything above 2 stars. In fact, when I read the last paragraph and went to flip the page I was upset the book was over, not because I wanted to read on and see what choice she made, but because it was just a compete let down. Now before you go ripping me apart for this review on good reads, just remember we all are entitled to our own opinion and sharing our honest perspective is why we join forums such as this. Overall, not impressed. Pretty bland read.

A must-read no matter what your age! If I Stay is a powerful young adult novel by Gayle Forman, which asks the question: what would you do if it was up to you as to whether you live or die? The novel starts with seventeen year-old Mia and her family celebrating an unexpected snow day at home in her Oregon hometown. Mia, her father and her much-younger brother all are out of school for the day, which prompts her mother to also take the day off. They decide to spend the day visiting friends and Mia's grandparents, and instantly the reader is treated to a warm, Rockwell-like description of this family. The reader barely has time to fall in love with the quirky, music-loving family before we find Mia describing pieces of her father's brain on the asphalt after a tragic wreck. She doesn't remember anything about the wreck itself. All we know is that her parents are gone and she is somehow outside of her body watching what happens next. There is no white light waiting for her, and she has no idea if her brother, Teddy, is okay. Mia leads us step-by-step through her journey as she comes to understand that whatever happens next is up to her. Should she stay and face the pain of a reality without her parents, or should she go? Mia describes the people who come to visit her while she is in a coma and recounts stories with her parents, her best friend, her grandparents and her boyfriend. We relive her life with her as she makes the most important decision of her existence; and we struggle with her as she tries to figure out what's best for her. If I Stay is a beautifully written and very fluid story. Gayle Forman weaves the past and the present together flawlessly, and the more we learn about Mia, the more we root for her to stay. Eventually, we are as helpless as her family and friends as we wait for her to decide her fate. I had to sit with this book for a while before reviewing it. There are so many layers to it. It's a great metaphor to what a seventeen year-old goes through in making decisions that will affect the rest of his or her life. The actions and choices we make in an instant at that age can truly change everything, for better or for worse. Do we go to college? What college should we go to? What should we study? What if what we want to do is something that doesn't need college - do we go anyway? What if we're in a serious relationship - do we continue to try and make it work after graduation? Do we commit to something more serious? Do we break up? If we do break up, should we do it now or wait until after graduation? If we're artistic, do we look to study more or try to get work in our field of interest? These are all questions Mia has prior to the accident, and in a way they are all part of the decision she makes in the end. How do we live when so much of what we live for is gone? And is it really our choice in the end? If I Stay is a quick read with a lot of emotional punch. It left me with a lot of questions and a lot to think about, which makes this novel an important read in my opinion. Does Mia stay or not? You'll have to read If I Stay to find out.

A few days ago, I bought this collection in the Christmas department in the store, and I can't emphasize enough how this series was flying off the shelves! I think the girls were feeling what I felt watching "If I Stay" in the cinema two months ago. I fell in love with the movie deeply, so I had to get the books, and see what would happen to Mia and Adam. I also put both separate books on my Goodreads shelves because I don't like to mix things up. If I Stay The moment I finished watching "If I Stay" in cinema, I knew I had to buy the books and read them. I saw both books many times in local libraries, but the gloomy effect of the covers and words made me stay away. I didn't know that with so much tragedy this story would be so happy, so romantic, so poetic and musical. So now I'm actually reading the first book. Finishing it though was another thing all together. I hated the "no chapters" aspect of the book, and sadly I prefer the movie over the book. The movie shows you the pain of the accident, the loss not just for Mia, but all around her, the full life she and her family led, the beauty of her music, her lovely family. (her parents and best friend were amazing!) In the book, I didn't like Mia. The author didn't write much about her losing her parents; she concentrated on her younger brother and her boyfriend Adam. The movie was amazing in jumping through scenes, emotions, and decisions, from the past to the present. Don't get me wrong, they are similar, but not exact. The jumps in the book are good but the emotions weren't there, and the humor in the movie is all gone in the book; it's all drama. So yeah, I prefer the movie. Where She Went

I liked this book because it kept you hooked to find out what happens from the start. I didn't like how it ended without much detail, but other than that it is a great book,

After they had crashed she had found that she was in a kind of ghost form and could walk wherever she wanted but was unable to “walk through walls” and talk. While she is in this form she has a lot of flashbacks while decieding whether she wants to “Stay” or go. What that means is she’s deiciding whether to live or die. I really did not like this book. I mean the ending is obvious to me. And although I will not spoil it, I’m sure that if you read this you can predict the ending too. And I also really don’t understand how this could be made into a movie! Quite frankly it’s just not interesting enough. I feel like the only twist is when someone she loves dies, but even that was likely of happening. I think the author tried to make it interesting by adding that romance with her boyfriend but it didn’t work. Not for me at least. It was sad I’ll admit that, but just having that huge event at the beginning of the book doesn’t make up for not having any major events in the rest of it.

Tear-jerker. I was planning to read this before watching the film but it was all worth it. I cried several times because of how the events were narrated. The story was heartbreaking but hopeful at the same time. "I'll let you go if you stay" - really moving! Can't wait to watch the film!!! Tear-jerker. I read this book to screen it for my girls. I learned my lesson last time when I gave my oldest daughter Divergent to read. Divergent had some pretty steamy scenes. My girls are eleven and eight. So, I now pre-read some books. In this case, I am glad I did. In general this book has an intense premise: the main character loses her family in a car wreck and then she is in an alternate/between world determining whether she wants to join her family in death or live without them. My oldest can handle that, but my youngest would get nightmares. The imagery of the gray matter on the roadside would definitely haunt my eight year old! My oldest could read this no problem; however, I felt a like the passage in which the main character imagines licking sweat off her boyfriend was maybe more than she is ready to process at this juncture. Outside of that it was a fine pre-teen read, fast and easy. We choose this book originally due to the main character being a cellist - my oldest plays violin and my youngest plays cello, as do I. I found the book relatable and even enjoyable on that level. The relationship the girl has with her music and instrument are fairly well written. String instruments are so amazing. You really feel what you are playing and connect with the songs – so someday I am sure my daughters’ will read this book and enjoy it. That being stated I rated it low because it is the typical pre-teen drivel. They type I am sure my kids will enjoy, but can be a bit mind numbing for me. Also, I guess this author is turning it into another Twilight like, love triangle series? Not my cup of tea. Last small critique, I get the dichotomy between classical music and punk rock, I just thought the main character harped on that to an extreme. Could of lightened up that aspect of the theme. Possibly worth it to read if you plan on seeing the movie - which I do.

Absolutely great duo! Hard not to fall in love with Adam, dare I say impossible? Yes. If you ask me, I'm not satisfied. I want more! I cant get enough and wish there was a third and fourth book to continue on to. My heart would be oh so happy. Absolutely great duo! Hard not to fall in love with Adam, dare I say impossible? Yes. "If I Stay" by Gale Forman was an amazing book. I have to say at first I couldn't get right into it. Eventually I did because Gale Forman is a phenomenal writer. He and Mia have one thing in common, their love for music. Mia and her brother Teddy have the day off, because of the snow. Mia's parents, brother and her decide to go for a ride in their car. One second they are driving normally, and the next, their car is flipped, and they are no longer in their seats. When Mia wakes up she can see herself lying on the ground. She notices that she is in some sort of state where she can walk and touch things, but not be seen by others. In the hospital Mia is told from her grandfather, Adam, and one of the nurses that she has the choice to either stay or go. Meaning to either stay or die. I really liked the book because of how Mia can see herself from a view she or nobody has never seen before. My favorite part was when Adam and Kim broke into the hospital room where Mia was being held, to see her. It reads: " As Adam and Kim charge through the door, they both look determined, happy even. I'm amazed by their resilience, by their hidden pockets of strength. I want to jump up and down and root for them like I used to do at Teddy's T-ball games when he'd be rounding third and heading for home. It's hard to believe, but watching Kim and Adam in action, I almost feel happy, too"(145). I have never broken anything in my body so I can't make the connection of being tapped in a hospital, but I have had a family member in the hospital, not knowing if they are ok, or where they are. Just like how Mia didn't know where her mom, dad, and brother were. I have a little brother, so I understand how hard it would be not knowing where he is, not knowing if he is ok or losing him all together. I would recommend this book to girls that are in middle school.

Was it a tragic story of a family ? A love story between a high school couple ? Or is it both put into one but yet a simple story ? While reading this book, you may notices that there are many conflicts or problems that the author speaks about. One big problem, is that Mia is the only one physically or mentally "out of her body" as we put it. She can see herself and all the accidents that have happened with her family. Or we can consider her relationship with Adam a problem, because they constantly have issues and argue. Mia faces the point where, she might be the only one alive and wake up a foster child. While reading the book we should look for the authors still of writing. Gayle Forman wanted us to mentally visualize what Mia was going through, and maybe look at from her point of view if maybe we were in her position. The author also sprinkles a little humor here and there in some chapters of the book. But overall it's a heartfelt story and maybe some of us can relate to it. All and all, I would recommend reading this book because it's not just about a lose to one another. It's about a story that an individual teenager our age, or anyone in this world has gone through or maybe in the future will. It's a heart touching story with humor (here and there) romance, friendships, families, and much more. Even though it's a story that can make you teary eyed.. Maybe you yourself can consider it.

If I Stay, by Gayle Forman was a sad yet happy book; at times it was very depressing and at other times it was very exciting. The author knew exactly what to write and how to draw in the reader farther and farther, she knew what to say at the right time using a lot of emotional appeals and descriptive words. But I'm also feeling all that I have in my life, which includes what I have lost, as well as the great unknown of what life might still bring me. And it's all too much. The feelings like up, threatening to crack my chest wide-open. The only way to survive them is to concentrate on Adams had. Grasping mine" (233). The quote above shows how happiness does exist but it has a limit to it. You can have so much happiness by one thing and when Adam grabbed her hand that brought happiness to her. In this book Chloe was in an accident that left her in the ICU, her boyfriend, Adam, was by her side through the whole time she was there. She couldn't talk to him or see him, only through her "ghost". Seeing how Adam still cared for her brought her happiness, no matter how much shad lost in the accident. If I had to recommend his book to a specific group, I couldn't because most people will be able to understand this book. The words aren't hard to understand which makes it simple for event to read, it's the plot that may get boring for some people. The first few chapters seem to belonged then expected but as you read closer to the middle everything picks up.

I decided to read this book because I really enjoyed the movie and because my friends have all recommended the book, saying it is better than the movie. My favourite character in the book is Mia Hall because she is strong and brave, having to deal with a car crash involving her family. Throughout the book she is in a coma but is having an out-of-body experience. Mia Hall is unique as she has the gift to play the cello but with that comes a price as her parents and Brother, Teddy are rock lovers. Mia feels she doesn’t fit in with her family and boyfriend because she is different to all of them. I find Mia interesting because when she plays the cello she is in her own world and is committed to every note she plays. She also has a difficult choice to make in this book, either she dies with her loving family or lives with grief but can achieve her dream as a cello player. My favourite quote from this book is “I realise now that dying is easy. Living is hard,” This is said by Mia when she is in her coma at the end of the book which is used as a cliff hanger. She says this because she thinks dying is simpler and easier than living without her family when she wakes up. Living would be hard for her because she will never hug her brother or talk to her mum ever again. This quote helps me understand that we don’t get second chances and before we know it, it could be all over. Something I have learned from reading this book is to be grateful for having a family and to make the most out of life because some people don’t have it easy like me…they are still grieving over loss which I haven’t experienced yet. Overall I really enjoyed this book and recommend people reading it.

If I Stay was a really entertaining book! It was depressing to read though. The main character was named Mia Hall who loves her family, her best friend, her boyfriend, and playing the cello. She is really close to her family. Her dad, Denny, was once a somewhat famous rockstar. His band wasn't known outside Portland, Organ, but he was pretty well known. Once Mia's little brother, Teddy, was born her dad quit the band and became a school teacher. Her mom, Kat, is a travel agent. The story starts If I Stay was a really entertaining book! The story starts when their family is listening to the radio at breakfast and they here that there is no school due to a snow day. They all decide to go to their grandparents farm. The roads are covered in ice and it's very slippery. A truck coming down the road loses control and runs straight threw the Hall's car. It was a horrible accident! It was a very well written book, but I got confused at some parts because when Mia was in the hospital she had flashbacks to her life with her best friend, Kim, her boyfriend, Adam, and playing the cello. It took me a little while to catch on to the flashbacks but once I did it made the book more interesting! I recommend this book to people who enjoy tear jerkers. It's interesting, heart felt, and overall a good read.

I rated If I Stay 4 stars because it is one of those books that will stay with you for a long time. The writing was great and Gayle Forman did a really job with the book. The description of the book is long, but that is because there is a lot to tell and in the book there is a lot going on. The best part about the book for me was that Mia thinks about her past to try to figure out whether she should live or die. Say if you were on a car crash like Mia was, and your injuries are really severe. Yo I rated If I Stay 4 stars because it is one of those books that will stay with you for a long time. Your mind is still thinking, you can hear and feel everything around you, but you can't move. Don't you think its YOUR choice whether to live or die?

a story that gave me a different perspective on life.. what if you were the one dying and your whole family are gone? would you decide to stay? one person asked her to stay and that was her one true love. the book shows how it is to cope when you have lost so much and somewhere ij between there was a gap in communication. the second book is about second chances... and honesty and they managed to communicate. and there was maturity on both sides. I like how the author told the story about love, fa a story that gave me a different perspective on life.. what if you were the one dying and your whole family are gone? would you decide to stay? one person asked her to stay and that was her one true love. the book shows how it is to cope when you have lost so much and somewhere ij between there was a gap in communication. the second book is about second chances... and honesty and they managed to communicate. and there was maturity on both sides. I like how the author told the story about love, family, moving on and forgiveness. It is a heavy plot to be categorized as teen fiction but if they did read the book it would make a great impact on their lives.

I don't have access to this book right now. If I stay is a book everyone should read! Everyone can connect to it in some way, whether it is to a misinformation character or not. It is a very sappy book, but it is hilarious at times. It has a very romantic story line, and it is very detailed. It is almost like you are making the choice to stay or not. She shares so much emotion that you can almost feel it. I would recommend If I Stay to any young adult. Especially teens that like sappy love storie I don't have access to this book right now.
