Parenting with grace can be quite the challenge. Trust me on this - I'm a parent of two boys and a theologian. Sometimes, it can seem that our ability to practice our faith and parent are at opposite ends, with all the challenges that a busy home provides. It doesn't have to be this way, however, and Seaborn proves it with his year-long daily devotional that gives practical insights for parents and parenting with grace. Sometimes, it can seem that our ability to practice our faith and parent are at opposite ends, with all the challenges that a busy home provides. It doesn't have to be this way, however, and Seaborn proves it with his year-long daily devotional that gives practical insights for parents and parenting with grace. My wife is a stay at home mom and full time student online, so I got this book for her to work with the children on. After all, the cover with the different shoe sizes seemed right up her alley. Upon sitting down to review it and opening the book, however, I realized that this is more of a devotional for parents to complete, not necessarily parents with children. That said, parents can complete it with their children if they are at the right age of maturity and the right conversations occur. The devotional kicks off with January 1, featuring a "theme" of the day and a highlight verse for the message. Seaborn then kicks into micro-sermon mode and provides a few short paragraphs to get parentings thinking in terms of grace. What's great about this devo is that Seaborn doesn't just suggest change needs to happen - he highlights ways to implement the change (some practical, some theoretical). He concludes with a parenting principle to remember and points to ponder. This can open up great conversations if discussed between the parents, and can be modified to include children if that's more your pace. As I said, often times it feels like being a Christian and being a parent are two different things, but with this book, parents who happen to be Christian can be one step closer to being Christian parents, and that's a good thing. Colossians 4:2; The Parenting Principle with it is: "A life dedicated to prayer will be a life filled with peace." and Points to Ponder: "How are you dedicated to prayer? Where do you struggle in your prayer life? and How do you pray for your children and teach them this dedication? This would be a wonderful devotional book for parents to use in their own private couples' time along with prayer. I think that older children and teenagers could be included in this devotional reading and it could be adapted to their needs and thoughts. Parents would be able to guide their older children and answer questions they may have about the lesson for the day. The only thing I would have liked to see added to this book would be a little color and illustrations. I rate this book 4 stars and recommend it to readers. I received a free copy from Zondervan and BookLookBloggers in exchange for my honest review.

These devotionals will inspire you as a parent to embrace the role that God has given you, while also equipping you with the tools you need to be a strong Christian role model for your children.” MY THOUGHTS: The devotional is very well done & easy to read. It is devoid of color on the pages which would have given it a bit more personality. Most of the devotionals are what I’d call a common sense approach to parenting. Personally, I’d say it’d be a good baby shower gift for first time parents. Logically, most Christian parents are probably following these ‘tips’ already. But, if you’re a parent looking for a new devotional geared for parents, then this would be good for you. I rate it with 4 stars. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
