As a HUGE fan of 'Second Time Around' romances, I was totally grabbed by the blurb about a First Love Romance finding love again twenty years later...WELLLLLL....this one has a TWIST...and Boy was it a Fun Time! Just the first few pages will have you cracking up...not that this is a comedy, but Cynthia Gibbons and her antics to catch a "Rich Man" had me laughing, and it didn't stop there! I have to say, I was NOT a fan of Cynthia in the beginning of THE BEST SHE EVER HAD, and I assume if you have read the complete series (which I plan to do VERY SOON), she is supposed to be a bit on a "Love Her or Hate Her" character...and I DID NOT like her. She was a straight up bitch to be honest, but that's the GREAT part about this romance, is that everyone can change....and by the end...I have to say, I really really wanted Cynthia to get her man. The family dynamic is so great, because Shelly writes her characters so true to life...I could practically see myself at the table, eating brunch and watching the drama unfold! And these Gibbons sisters are FULL of drama! The crazy twist that Ellis throws in there, really threw me for a loop, but I was so excited cause I really really wanted Jared and Clarissa to have a chance (and the hotel room scene was TOO funny for words!). I do have ONE peeve...I didn't like the way the last chapter ended...ok...Shelly makes up for it with the epilogue...but for a minute there, I was like WHAT?!?!?!?! So be warned...Keep reading to the end...whew!! It's the New Year...try something that you might not normally pick up and grab a copy of THE BEST SHE EVER HAD...you won't be sorry...and you will definitely be picking up the others in the series...I know I am!!

The Gibbons' women are full of NEVER-ENDING drama...they're husbands and/or boyfriends will DEFINITELY have their hands full dealing with the fall-out of the Gibbon Girls Rules of Gold Digging. The series is quite the PAGE-TURNER and the full cast of characters are quite lively and colorful. Korey is an AMAZING man...and I have no idea how he could see past all Cynthia's character flaws and forgive her for all the HORRIBLE things she did to him based on those stupid Gibbon Rules. And poor Clarissa and Jared the emotional TRAUMA they had to endure due to Cynthia's deception was SIMPLY awful...OVERALL this series was an INTRIGUING read...and I could NOT stop reading...most of the Gibbon women flaws I found to be redeemable however Cynthia and Yolanda (the mother) were in a class all by themselves. WOW...I didn't think Cynthia Gibbons could get any worse...after reading the first three books...but she is a REAL piece of work! Despite ALL Cynthia's issues..and believe me there are MANY (therapist should be in her future)...I am glad she's able to FINALLY find out what TRUE love is and experience a happily-ever-after...just like the rest of her sisters...but I'm also ABSOLUTELY sure Korey is in for a life filled with more drama than he's had since he and Cindy broke up 20 years ago...it's also a nice added BONUS catching up with the rest of the Gibbon sisters and their lives now that they have given up the Gold Digging Rules...KUDOS Shelly Ellis on this ENTERTAINING series with OH so many UNEXPECTED twists and turns.

Cynthia Gibbons was a hard pill for me to swallow. Out of all the sisters' stories I read going in she was the one I liked the least and that means the author did a great job creating an Alpha Female character. I liked Cynthia's over the top personality and I found myself continually laughing at her antics. Korey was a man with infinite patience and I felt bad for him at times dealing with Cynthia. I started this one (a month late behind my internet bookclub) and I couldn't put it down. A family of females trained by the matriarch to settle for nothing less than a man with six figures, age not discriminant. Usually this isn’t my genre, but decided to look for a feel good but true to life drama to pass some time. Boy! This book did not disappoint. I listened at work, on the way to work and on the way home. Then started again before bed. LOL

    The Book

Cynthia Gibbons and her sisters are well-known around town as ‘gold diggers.’ What do you expect when their mother laid out the rules to gold digging and landing a rich man.? The problem is Cynthia’s daughter refuses to adhere to the rule book. She’d rather follow her heart, and that’s exactly what she does when runs off to elope. As soon as Cynthia finds out that her daughter ran off to Vegas to get married she is determined to stop the wedding. The problem is Cynthia’s daughter refuses to adhere to the rule book. She’d rather follow her heart, and that’s exactly what she does when runs off to elope. As soon as Cynthia finds out that her daughter ran off to Vegas to get married she is determined to stop the wedding. The question though is what is the real reason that Cynthia is hell-bent on stopping the nuptials? Will she be able to stop the wedding in enough time? The Sisters: Lauren is married to Cristano, and she is deeply in love with him. The problem is with Cristano running for mayor she is worried that her past will affect his chances of winning. Stephanie is engaged to private detective Keith Hendricks. Unfortunately Cynthia feels like Keith is beneath her sister since she feels like Keith doesn’t make enough money to support the luxuries her sister is used to. Meanwhile, Dawn has fallen head over heels for a younger man, Xavier. Xavier wants kids, and would like for Dawn to have his children, but she’s not quite sure because of her age. Cynthia is slowly beginning to realize that her sisters have all decided to listen to their hearts instead of the Gibbons family rule book. Will Cynthia let go and let love in or will she still be on the quest for her next rich husband? The Best She Ever Had by Shelly Ellis was the 4th installment in A Gibbons Gold Digger series. Although the story mainly centers around the main character Cynthia and the fact that her daughter has run off to elope, there is a few other storylines going on within the story. The story moved slowly, but mainly because it was very repetitive. At times, it felt like the story was just going on in circles. After she finds her daughter, the story picks up some and then picks up a steady pace then abruptly fast forwards a year. To make matters worse, the thing that should have made me drop my mouth in shock, only aggravated me. I easily figured out early on in the story how it the story was going to play out. So for this reader, The Best She Ever Had was just okay.

My first thoughts, why didn't I know about this series before? A series about women raised to be gold diggers instead of "settling" for love. Cynthia is the oldest sister and the most jaded which is why she is known as the Ice Queen. When you first start reading this tale, you are wondering how the author can redeem this woman as the heroine of the book. But Ellis does a wonderful job as you start to the personal changes in Cynthia once she meets the man who broke her heart, Korey. Now I have to go and read the rest of the sisters' stories!

This has been an entertaining series to read. In this last segment, it was good to read how the Ice Queen was melted. While there was a brief scare, Cynthia's secret actually worked to her advantage. Chesterton, Northern Virginia. Late 30s - early 40s. A contemporary romance. RomCom. Funny twist. The one that got away. Old flames. The dedication page. Love it! Its like the author is driven by the character, which actually she created it herself. Some character is just too good to be not told. The formatting bothered me. I cant adjust the line and paragraph spacing, maybe because it is an uncorrected proof copy. Just into pages 2, i know i am going to love this one. The seductress ploy and the aggressive nature of Cynthia Gibbons hooked me! I can easily imagining the ploy she gonna do and dreading end when she got discovered. Then the storyline change direction into something like "old-flames meets after grown ups". The story told from the narration rather than its conversation. Has some twist that involved both of the MC's kid who share a similar age, 19 y.o. Really enjoyable read. Lure me to read it in one-sitting. Funny twist. I experienced this giddy feeling while reading this, complete with the gigle and butterfly on stomach. Eager to turn the page as fast as possible to dive deeper to the story. The sister bonding as Gibbons girl only add to the excitement of this book. "Cindy, a woman doesn’t have the luxury of thinking with her heart. She has to think with her head. She doesn’t have just the responsibility of herself to worry about. She has to think about the children she’ll have in the future. Will the man be a provider? Will she have to hold him up? Love will come and go—that’s just a fact of life—but money and a roof over your head can be a shelter against many storms.’ full review to be posted on my GoodReads and TUMBLR blog. http://madamtyrianpurple.tumblr.com/ https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/2...

Romance is sweeter the second time around, especially when the mercenary heroine finally realizes what is important in life, and grows up a bit, at 40. I’ve read a few of these stories, Shelly Ellis builds amazing characters that are sure to make you love or hate them equally. This storyline is further laden with conflict as all of the sisters have been raised with an eye to the ‘bottom line’, not the character or kindness of the men they target. While I won’t moralize on the wrongness of that Romance is sweeter the second time around, especially when the mercenary heroine finally realizes what is important in life, and grows up a bit, at 40. I’ve read a few of these stories, Shelly Ellis builds amazing characters that are sure to make you love or hate them equally. This storyline is further laden with conflict as all of the sisters have been raised with an eye to the ‘bottom line’, not the character or kindness of the men they target. While I won’t moralize on the wrongness of that trait, I will say that making me enjoy a book despite that major deficit as I enter the story is a testament to the writing. Cynthia is a 40 something divorced woman, with a 19 year old daughter. Time is coming for her to find her next meal ticket, and goes to some fairly outlandish steps to set up her conquest. But, it all goes horribly wrong when her first real love from high school reappears in her life, seemingly still inappropriate for her ‘black card’ dreams. Korey is also divorced with a 19 year old son, but he’s worked hard to get what he has: a chain of successful auto repair shops, but he still prefers simple and honest to Cynthia’s snobby ways. He’s never been able to get her out of his head though, and these two have TONS of baggage and bad feelings to get past. And they have to get past them quickly – since their kids have eloped to Vegas to marry, against everyone’s wishes. What Ellis does with great style is bring us into their history and present, as they battle and make up – with Cynthia’s dramatic overreactions and Korey’s doing his best to NOT lose his temper. Their relationship from anger and avoidance to speaking terms, and more. We also get a chance to check in on the sisters: Stephanie, Lauren and Dawn and see what a bit of maturity and ignoring the “gold digger rules’ has actually done for their own lives. Full of little and not so little dramas, tension, heart and above all, growth for Cynthia that surpassed even what I could think possible, this story was a winner. I received an eBook copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

The Best She Ever Had focuses on the oldest of the Gibbons sisters in the Golddigger series by Shelly Ellis. In this novel, Cynthia is still in search for her payday through any man necessary until she is reacquainted with a long lost love, Korey. Even though time has kept them apart, their reunion is connected in more ways than one. I'm glad that Cynthia Gibbons has her own book and achieved her happy ending. A lot of pages were spent on a weekend in Vegas searching for their children, and I craved more movement and development on other parts of the story. For example, Korey's ex-wife Vivian's big revelation should have received more attention. Parts that should have been drawn out were rushed and parts that needed to be rushed were drawn out. For fans of the series, it's a must read because while it focuses on Cynthia's happy ending, the book also touches on the upcoming series and pieces of Lauren (the youngest sister) and her husband.

Interesting wrap up I hopes that by the end of this that I would like Cynthia a little more but I dont .LOL It as still a good book, she's just one of those characters that you love to hate.
