The Winter Soldier is coming - and Cap is about to learn secrets that will put him on a collision course with everything he values. Nice adaptation of this important event in the Marvel universe!

This is a ya novelization of the first part of the film. It doesn't add anything (which is something -all- such novelizations -should- do (in my opinion, of course) to the story, and stops at a fairly random place. It's not bad for what it is, but there doesn't seem to be much point to it. This is a ya novelization of the first part of the film. So, it turns out this was a junior novelization. I downloaded the audiobook without much consideration, thinking it might be a separate story. I was wrong. It is a retelling of the first half of the Winter Soldier movie, rendered in minute detail. That said, for its intended audience, I think this would be a good book. It lets you either relive or get excited about the movie, and while it doesn't go all the way through the movie, it was a pretty long movie, and I would guess that there is a second one (not that I would seek it out, personally). The writing here is quite well done, being of roughly the same caliber as other adult-oriented military fiction I have read (I don't read a lot of it, but I have read a few). The action is well rendered, but so are subtle details of social interaction. I'm not sure how much kids are still excited about this movie, but if your kid is, this would probably help them to understand social nuance without having them having to think about it too much, which seems fairly valuable. I probably wouldn't have sought this out if I had known what it was, but I'm not upset that I did, and that's saying something.

The only reason I picked this up was because I'm waiting for another audiobook to come in and now I remember why I never read movie novelizations. I've lost track of the number of times it's used the word "quickly" and it just replaced the word "hell" with "heck." This is both precious and terrible please save me. Captain America: The Winter Soldier Secret Files covers the events shortly after the Avenger's battle of New York to Cap's first fight with the mysterious super assassin, the Winter Soldier. Cap is seriously questioning his ability to fit in as a soldier in today's world of grey morals. He is wondering whether S.H.I.E.L.D. and Fury can be trusted when Fury is attacked by the Winter Soldier and left fighting for his life. Captain America is then left to find the answers behind the attack. I liked the fact that it showed the nobility and honor of a soldier, while still showing kids that war comes with a high cost, both physically and emotionally. The action was interesting without being too much for young readers to handle.

Basically the first half of winter soldier The Interior art is ok. The plot seems to be the first half of the winter soldier movie. The book is a little easier to follow than the movie. A good choice for the 8-12 crowd.

I will never willingly listen to another of these junior novelizations narrated by Tom Taylorson. He would be fine if he didn't sound so silly when he is supposed to raise his voice or shout. Glad the book was very short. I will never willingly listen to another of these junior novelizations narrated by Tom Taylorson. Not horrible, but it stops halfway through the movie without ever answering any of the questions.

It was ok I mean it told the story but it was kind of boring after a while. It’s one of those reads if you want like another viewpoint of the story.

Closely following the action from the movie The Winter Soldier, this chapter book tells the story of Steve Rodgers as he returns to an America he is unfamiliar with and a new enemy that he must engage to end a plot that threatens the safety of the world. Middle grade readers, 8-12 years of age, who are fans of Captain America and Marvel Comics will like this chapter book story version of the movie. I would recommend this as an optional purchase for libraries who have a strong demand for super hero fiction. This book was provided by the publisher and reviewed for SWON Libraries.

Rather poorly written at times unfortunately. I was hoping for more background info from between the movie scenes rather than just less-apt descriptions of exact movie scenes and dialogue that wasn't as well written as the actual movie. I got it for a dollar, but honestly you're better off spending that dollar redboxing the movie. Rather poorly written at times unfortunately. About 1/3rd of the movie, faithfully reproduced, and then suddenly a janky, hastily thrown together ending, that cuts out the most exciting parts of the movie and entirely alters the original story.

This was a well-written junior novel, and despite only covering perhaps half of the movie, I enjoyed it.
