I was really excited when I first saw "Little Army" show up on the shelf. I really loved the "Girls und Panzer" anime and the world created was simply wonderful. The whole concept of tankery being the height of femininity made it so enjoyable for some reason. It has a sort of "liberating" quality to it as a genre piece. Anyway, "Little Army" serves as a prequel to the anime. I was, generally, really excited to return to this universe, but, alas, our time here is brief. Anyway, "Little Army" serves as a prequel to the anime. I was, generally, really excited to return to this universe, but, alas, our time here is brief. This manga is only a two volume series, which is really the only aspect that disappointed me. Likewise with the anime, I felt it was too short and I would have liked the whole world fleshed out a bit more. I mean, I really want to know why they need to go to schools on giant aircraft carriers to study tankery! What 'caused the world to be this way etc. In the end, us viewers merely accept these as given and simply enjoy the absurdly cute show as Miho and her crew learn how to operate tanks and engage in tank battles. "Little Army" brings us into Miho's first adventure of putting together a tank crew. It's similar to the anime in the sense that her classmates approach her interested in the activity. The major difference here is that Miho is actually far more receptive and excited to share in tankery with her new friends. We get a little deeper insight into Miho's family dynamics and sister, which I really loved reading about. However, the story seems to stop short, in my opinion, and I really wished it had continued up to the point where Miho is forced to change schools. I'm really hoping that more manga is published in this universe as I find it really enjoyable. I love the aspect of girls doing a "traditionally manly" thing, but still maintaining their ability to also be typically cute. It has a sort of reverse Otoman feel to it in that regard. As someone who believes either gender can do whatever they want, I really liked that aspect and appreciated it in this series.

I can't believe I found the whole series on Book Outlet! This is sort of a prequel to the main GuP storyline. Miho is 10 years old and like in her high school days, she found her friends through the shared interest in tankery. It's a little OOC but it's cute. When Miho was little... So, this is some reason Miho decided not to like tankery cuz some of the girls were determined to be asses no matter how she tried to make things right. ::sigh:: There are some things you just had to let it go. But unfortunately... Let’s go to volume 2. This volume is recommended.

I watched the anime for this (no, I didn't particularly like it), and I was curious as to how it all began. How did Miho start with Tanks, how she made friends and so much more. This manga was really interesting, I really liked Miho in this one. How she quickly made friends, how she tried to befriend other people as well, even though they were quite grumpy. The first trip in a tank was interesting, though I am doubting the brains of the girl who tried to just climb down the tank to grab a shoe. The first trip in a tank was interesting, though I am doubting the brains of the girl who tried to just climb down the tank to grab a shoe. Couldn't she have gone from another side or asked for help? It was really interesting to find out more about Miho, about her past and her friendships. I am really curious as to how it will end (though I believe we kind of know what happened back there thanks to the anime). I didn't like the girl with pigtails who is from Germany. I don't mind a bit of deredere, but this is just annoying. I also didn't like her attitude towards Maho, Miho's sister. I know, your big sister is the rival of Maho. But that still doesn't make your attitude right. At least get to know her before you bitch in front of her sister about her. Especially if you know how Miho feels about her sister. I am also not entirely sure what to make of that Hitomi girl. She was nice, but I didn't like how she tended to drop stuff when she lost interest in it. It was good to see her struggle and try to be better about stuff, try to keep the interest in something, but I am still worried one day she will just give up or find something more interesting to like. The art was great, I loved the character designs and the tanks were beautifully drawn. I would recommend this manga, though I am not particularly sure about the order of stuff. While this is kind of a prequel, you might also miss some hints and stuff if you didn't check out the other stuff. Review first posted at http://twirlingbookprincess.com/

The story is about four young girls who are in elementary school and all share an interest in tanks. In this world, it is the mark of a lady of high society to become an expert in tankery. Because the tank requires four individuals to operate it, the entire volume is about what it takes for these four girls to get along and build a friendship in which they become a tank squadron. The focus of this story is definitely friendship, and the tanks are just the mechanism which drives their individual struggles with making friends. There is a very juvenile feel to this manga, and though I read it very quickly, I did not find it to be the most investing read.

I didn't realize this was a spinoff of a larger series, but it's cute and quick, the characters aren't bad, though the premise is silly. I didn't realize this was a spinoff of a larger series, but it's cute and quick, the characters aren't bad, though the premise is silly.
