After the climax of the previous multi-volume conflict with Bishamon, the action has now slowed down as everyone recuperates. Yato and Bishamon more-or-less reconcile over beer and cherry blossoms, and Yukine advances on the path to being a supportive shinki (kind of a bum deal, really, but what choice do you have when you're dead?). Hiyori continues to be a great friend and Yato a crappy one. Clearly we are in for another longer arc involving the masks and will be seeing more of Stray. The tiny little shrine and Yato’s reaction to it is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m so happy for my boy. 😩 That drunken kiss though! 👀 I can get behind that.... As always, the art is clean and pretty. This manga is pure delight.

Noragami is the breakout manga series for me this year. I am always so happy when I discover a new title to fall in love with. This series is unique for me though, in that I don't always like many of the characters. Volume 7 is a perfect example of this back and forth - the first few pages show him vulnerable, but then he quickly gets cocky and obnoxious, only to end the volume on a cliffhanger with him being yet again vulnerable. I can't make my mind up about Yato, and yet, that's also the appeal to this series. He's complex, and while I think ultimately he's going to mature in this story, like all things, for one step forward, he takes two steps back. Yukine, on the other hand, has made such a rapid transformation from complete jerk to principled and dedicated student that I am really enjoying his character. I remember that it wasn't too many volumes ago that I wanted Yato to kick him to the curb. It's a good thing I'm not the one writing this story, heh. Kodansha is releasing a volume a month for the foreseeable future, and I could not be more excited. With year long waits for Pandora Hearts and six month waits for other favorite series, it's nice to have a new volume a month with a series that I love. Yay.

A more laid back volume than previous ones, but a little on the slow side at parts. Probably because they're setting up for the next big event, but certain chapters and scenes where there was heavy exposition weren't as well paced as previous volumes. Not a bad volume, though. Ebisu's introduction was interesting and I definitely want to learn more about him, and Hiyori making Yato a shrine was so damn sweet and lovely my heart damn near burst. The beginning with Veena & the gods was a little bit serious and boring. But we jump straight after to some fun when Yato possessed Hiyori (and give panties shoot to everyone in class.) to try to convert the student to “Yatoism”. His action makes Hiyori a sudden super star. There is also this other good Ebisu, who is trying to bride Yato and buy Yukine. Of course, money is always a problem with those two. It was silly but I felt like there was a lot to learn about the characters and story. I love that she made him a shrine. You don’t even know how much I fangirled over that. He was so happy and I was so happy for him!!! Drunk yato: I’m gonna make hiyori the happiest girl in the whole world. (Because she made his life dream) YOU CANT END IT LIKE THIS ANYMORE AUTHOR. I’M GONNA HAVE A HEART ATTACK.

~4/5 After that previous volume, I expected this plot to be a whole lot more dramatic. And it turns out it’s the complete opposite of what I thought, but also in a good way. It surprised me, but I wasn’t disappointed, and it wasn’t anticlimactic like it could have been. Instead, Hiyori is not talking to Yato because of what he did. But then she throws a party with all the Gods and shinki that she knows, including Yato and Bishamon. Which causes some drama, but mostly a lot of hilarity. There’s more problems for poor Hiyori, when Yato takes over her body and goes crazy at her high school, giving her a bad reputation. And there’s another cliffhanger at the end, where something surprising and bad is revealed about Yato and the Stray. The most important part of the volume, though, is when Hiyori makes Yato a mini-shrine. She thinks it’s no big deal, just something to cheer him up. But to the Gods, it’s showing that he’s remembered and honored, and it gives him a step up in recognition. It’s a really important step for him, and it’s sweet how much it means to him. I’m just seriously enjoying this series. It’s hilarious but serious when need be. The next one should be good. [Read more at my blog, Geeky Reading!]

Noragami is such an interesting manga. The story-line isn't anything that hasn't been done before, but it's done in a unique and fun way -- and the characters are engaging and entertaining. As far as shounen manga go, which I don't usually stick with if only because all the endless MUST BATTLE, MUST GET STRONGER gets boring for me, this one does a great job of focusing on interpersonal relationships in addition to the plot, plus add a great level of mystery. Love it and can't wait to read more! Noragami is such an interesting manga. This volume is mostly character driven and deals with identity. Several characters are finding their true identities, or selves, at least they seem to be doing so: Yato, Yukine and Hiyori. A mysterious element is added to the plot which meanders along until the ending where an intriguing and shocking reveal leaves us perplexed as to the meaning. One of my favourite current mangas at the moment!

Honestly, what really made me meh about this volume was the chapter where Yato possessed Hiyori's body and destroyed her reputation. I did not find that funny at all and it really clouded my feelings about Yato for the rest of the volume. :/ Honestly, what really made me meh about this volume was the chapter where Yato possessed Hiyori's body and destroyed her reputation. This volume is a bit comic relief, though I enjoyed happy moments, it wasn't that interesting. I enjoy Yukine&Yato moments a lot, they have a very good chemistry. ......Ooookay. This volume just got WAY too inappropriate with the suggestive talk for my liking. Chapter 25 I was prepared for, having had the misfortune of watching the OVA based on it (and then immediately reading the chapter to see if it was as uncomfortable as the adaptation (it was actually not *quite* as bad as the OVA, but that isn't saying much)). Chapter 26, though. In chapter 26, Hiyori is trying to deal with the fallout of chapter 25, wherein Yato possessed her body while she was out ......Ooookay. Chapter 26, though. In chapter 26, Hiyori is trying to deal with the fallout of chapter 25, wherein Yato possessed her body while she was out of it and proceeded to make her look like a complete bimbo at school, all the while spreading the word about Yatoism. This fallout consists of her male schoolmates thinking she's a call girl and... propositioning her in extremely inappropriate ways (played for comedy). And then there's innuendo with Yato getting a creepy call from a Hiyori/Yato admirer whom Yato mistakenly assumes to be gay, and then the ensuing innuendo (from Yukiné, no less) was the last straw and I just noped away in disgust. I feel like I can't justify reading this anymore. I just... feel so uncomfy about the last couple chapters oh my word. Whyyyy was any of that necessary. (What age range is this even intended for in Japan? It's rated 16+ over here... but it's published in a shounen magazine....) Anyway, if my parents asked what I was reading, I wouldn't really have a leg to stand on. Time to stop. Suffice it to say, I am very very disappointed. Like I said in my review of volume 4, it's an amazing story and the art is beautiful. The anime (minus the OVAs) is far cleaner content-wise than this. My current mindset is one of Disgust(TM) and I feel like I should just go catch up on The Promised Neverland instead. Probably a better use of my time.

And she says he can't leave her & "father" - so I get that they're brother & sister, but seriously, bitch. She need to be killed, she's awful, always bringing out the worst of him, the God of Calamity. And we also find out that Ebisu is the one who's experimenting with the ayakashi & trying to name them & such...he's got those masks.

Loved the comic relief this manga. Very sweet gesture of hiyori for Yato and I loved his reaction. Yato and Yukine were brilliant in their reactions when introduced to the idea of money and something else I loved was the storyline. Sweet, lighthearted it quicklyturned into something very dark and mysterious towards the end.
