Her point of view of the Cheyennes, whose raiding party had killed her parents and three siblings, is obviously strongly negative. But despite that, she does discuss daily life and the various forms of affection and antipathy shown to her and by her with regard to the family that adopted her and others in the tribe. Indeed, she speaks with true respect and regard for Stone Calf, the chief who eventually returned her and one sister to the soldiers. I started poking into it expecting it to be similar to the sensationalism of a dime novel of the day, but found this quite an interesting read.
