Could she make him understand that she was no illusion, that holding, not seeing her was believing? No one ever breached the walls he'd built to save his pride and keep pity out -- not even an enchanting spitfire who tormented him with yearning.

Yet another book so bad & boring I couldn't finish it. Emma has a perfume formula she must sell immediately so she literally breaks into Max's house to tell him about it. He's a complete stranger who owns a perfume company. She talks like a complete moron saying things like "Damnation! My tongue wrapped around my eyeteeth, and I couldn't see what I was sayin' " and "hoisted my own petard" and "if you ain't want to dead, don't born." Literally. In their first meeting. These are supposed to be endearing Southern quips - I think. Mostly she a talks like a crazy person. A stupid, crazy person though we're supposed to find her a "determined businesswoman" with spunk. She ends up staying up all that night, reworking her "presentation" for him in his house. The result is he finds her in the morning supposedly very tired, but acting so sedated she might as well as taken a handful of narcotics. She sleeps for the next 24 hours, in which time Max manages to undress her completely (it's cute! He's putting her to bed!) and caress her all over, including her breast, & kisses her. In her sleep. A woman who he just met after she broke into his house. After she wakes up and continues to behave erratically, she finally leaves his house. She calls a short while later asking Max for bail. It seems she's been arrested & thrown in jail (!) for more of her "endearing antics" & misunderstandings. This is all in the beginning of the book. Apparently we're to find her behavior funny & plucky. And of course Max is instantly in love and wants to take care of her. This is where I bailed. Life's too short. How did this ever get published?

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. This is about Emily trying to rescue her family business and home on an Island. She beseeches help from Max to buy a fragrancy she has developed. He is a recluse and she it a Mr Bean like character. Will she manage to steal his heart and open out his world to accept in the greater society outside his doorstep? Well that is pretty much the theme. Add to it the fact that Max is blind and jilted by his fiancé and Emily is man weary after a controlling relationship. For me it was a meh it's ok. I think the story didn't develop with satisfying highs and lows but revolved around Max's "ooh i want to tear your clothes off... Actually no i don''t". And Emily's "why doesn't he want me what's wrong the the perfect me? What's wrong with him?" The book is dated so with that in mind it is just ok. The business storyline is unconvincing and too choppy. Emily can be a bit annoying and Max didn't do it for me. He is too gruff and miserable an indecisive that i couldn't understand what she saw in him. She would have been better off with the friend or Adam's driver to be honest.
