I'm on board ok, I get it. two days a week 500-600 calories. I'm not going to slam this book, but be forewarned, any book about fasting that is over 30 pages long is going to have recipes.......a lot of recipes. soooooo, if you like reading recipes, this book is for you. I started the 8 hour fasting plan and dropped weight pretty quickly. about 8 lbs in first, but stalled there, due to baaaad eating habits. rewarding yourself for starving yourself will cause this diet to fail you. so, you are goi I'm on board ok, I get it. two days a week 500-600 calories. I started the 8 hour fasting plan and dropped weight pretty quickly. about 8 lbs in first, but stalled there, due to baaaad eating habits. rewarding yourself for starving yourself will cause this diet to fail you. so, you are going to have to manage your food intake no matter what. junk food and excessive portion sizes will cause failure in this plan. so, forget about the " you can eat normal" phrase until you understand that normal means getting rid of junk food and managing calories for either maintaining weight or losing weight...no magic bullet folks. at least not for me. I am still working my way through this dieting concept and have to redefine normal diet. I think the key is to hit proteins as your primary calories, especially on the reduced calorie days. I do think this method will ultimately be the key to weight loss, but it is not without changes in bad habits and dedication. at least that is my perception.. I am on board. educate yourself as you navigate this program and dont give up. I am not. I hope to gain the resolve to do the 6 day water diet.....in time... good luck.

Good to give you an idea of how to start. I was hoping for more information and calorie counts on the recipes for the non-fasting days.

Just another diet book! The same thing as all the other ones I've read but with a with a different spin. I tried to incorporate it into my lifestyle and failed. Maybe it will appeal to some people who are more disciplined than me. But if I were more disciplined I would not have a weight problem in the first place! There is no big secret to losing weight. Unfortunately, our family and friends are usually in the same boat as us or they don't have the same problem and don't understand. I am not giving up, but this method is too complicated for me!

Backbone of science, surrounded by fluff Overall I wouldn't recommend this book. The author takes scientific findings on the health of intermittent fasting, and makes it more complicated by requiring calorie counting, then fills the book with recipes and snack suggestions, most of which would be counterproductive to the fasting due to carb (especially fructose) content, which spikes insulin. From everything I had heard about this diet, I thought the point of fasting was to eat normally the rest of the week. Well, their idea of eating normally requires the same tedious calorie-counting every day that I already know that I will fail at because it's a miserable way to live. What I thought would make this diet different is just more of the same, but with added torture of fasting for two days a week. I was extremely disappointed at what a colossal waste of time this book was. I found it little more than a summation of much better books (The Fast Diet, and The Every Other Day Diet, specifically). I also thought it was poorly written and difficult at times to slog through.

Not that helpful... This is basically a brief summary of the *most* basic information about 5:2 and a bunch of recipes. Not that helpful, although some.of the recipes look pretty tasty.
