In Child to Chef, Eric Arrouzé traces his unlikely but inspiring path from mischievous boy in a small, blue-collar French town to a successful professional chef, using the same mix of enthusiasm and expertise that make his cooking classes so memorable. These are very tasty classic dishes. This book would make a great gift for anyone who is interested in French cuisine or the life of a chef. It would also be inspirational for any young person exploring a culinary career. I can't wait for Chef Eric's next installment in his culinary memoir series.

I enjoyed this book about Chef Eric and his childhood in France. His detail in the descriptions of characters, places and all the food was outstanding - you feel like you are there. Includes recipes in the back of book that were featured (helped win him over to love of food). Great advice all throughout about his philosophy and the philosophy of his Grandmother "Mamie." It was interesting to read that GMO's were already not tolerated nor were preservatives and chemicals - this was set in the 70's I enjoyed this book about Chef Eric and his childhood in France. Very nice autobiography with a focus on cooking and food. I was a bit miffed that it stopped at a certain age, but that just attests to a well written book. It is clear that is only a part of his life by the "Book 1" part of the title. His passion for food and the people who kindle this passion is evident in his writing. It was an easy read and I think I will be getting his other books too. The later 1/4 of the book records all the recipes that he speaks of in his book.
