The Theology of Karl Rahner: A Restatement of Foundations of Christian Faith

Availability: Ready to download

The core of Karl Rahner’s theology describes something that I have personally experienced. It is a transcendental experience of an Infinite Silence in the midst of everyday life. I call this Infinite Silence God, and it is the reason why I wrote this book. I wanted to tell readers about Karl Rahner’s theology because he says that we all have this transcendental experience, The core of Karl Rahner’s theology describes something that I have personally experienced. It is a transcendental experience of an Infinite Silence in the midst of everyday life. I call this Infinite Silence God, and it is the reason why I wrote this book. I wanted to tell readers about Karl Rahner’s theology because he says that we all have this transcendental experience, even if we are unaware of it. Karl Rahner refers to it as an “infinite horizon” in the background of all our experience. It is a “holy mystery” because it seeks to fulfill our spiritual destiny and cannot be contained by any category. This book is a simple and concise restatement of Karl Rahner’s most systematic work, Foundations of Christian Faith. Rahner’s complex academic writing is rendered into readable prose so that readers will be comfortable with his remarkable theology. Once we get passed Karl Rahner’s complex academic style, what we end up with is the story of who we are, and the adventure of who we can become. As Rahner says, the future is an open possibility. Steven Buller Cayucos, California The author is currently working on his next book, Theological Investigations of Karl Rahner.

Excellent Covers an enormous range of theological research with clarity and precision. I can't say that I now fully understand Rahner's extraordinary body of work, but I have received some insight into his theology. This feels like a transformative new understanding of faith for me. However, it's not something I would attempt to articulate in an Amazon review. Excellent overview I read Rahner's Foundations of Faith several years ago. Butler's restatement is both a faithful summary and a joyful expression of Rahner's passion in his pursuit of theologizing from life's experiences.
