Detective Helene Collias works for the Holly PD and is also a psychic witch. It’s Christmas time, and unfortunately, murder doesn’t take a break. Helene is called out the Grant house where Chelsea Grant has been viciously murdered. Her brother Sean and sister Bianca are the only Grants left now. Helene’s gifts would normally tell her more information, but for some reason they’re not working correctly in this case. It doesn’t help that Helene has an old connection to Sean which may be rekindled. Detective Helene Collias works for the Holly PD and is also a psychic witch. MURDER UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR is a short novel, but the length doesn’t keep it from packing a powerful punch. I enjoyed the characters very much and felt they were nicely developed. I really loved the hunt for the killer, especially because it took Helene’s investigative training and not the paranormal elements to wrap up the case. The plot was tight and complex, but not hard to follow. MURDER UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR is a great mystery novel with some romance and paranormal aspects.

Set at Christmas, this is a murder mystery with a twist. Helene is a detective on the case, and she is also has psychic powers that she uses to gain an extra boost against the criminal element. When a young woman is found dead, Helene is placed on the investigative team. And what she discovers is unsettling: the victim’s brother is the boy she had a major crush on in high school, and the killer may be dressed up as Santa. Sean Grant’s younger sister is dead, not the first death he has survived. Set at Christmas, this is a murder mystery with a twist. And what she discovers is unsettling: the victim’s brother is the boy she had a major crush on in high school, and the killer may be dressed up as Santa. Sean Grant’s younger sister is dead, not the first death he has survived. His parents died when he was young, and now he feels some guilt over his inability to protect his sister. Add to that, the return of his high school crush, and the attraction he feels for Helene the woman and detective, and things have the potential to be messy. Fast paced and carrying a lovely sinister tone that adds to the creep factor of a murderer passing himself off as a Santa, there are plenty of moments that put me on the edge of my seat. When Helene is concerned that her feelings for Sean are affecting her ability to discern any ‘paranormal’ signals, another twist wends in, and the paranormal side may just be as depraved and twisted as the killer who is still being hunted. Several distractions for both Sean and Helene appear to hamper their progress, and a few stolen and steamy moments give them a needed respite from the overarching tension. But respite is hard to come by when their connection can be viewed as questionable and the killer is still out there. Twisty and laden with tension, this was a read that kept me guessing and wondering almost from the beginning. Sexy characters with a palpable attraction, a disturbed spirit world and a killer that is stalking Sean’s family for reasons yet unknown make this a must read for fans of romantic suspense. I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Murder reminds Detective Helene Collias of Holly PD that crime doesn't respect holidays. And the last victim she ever expected to find in her case files is the sister of her old flame, Sean Grant. Could her lingering attraction to Sean be blurring her abilities, or is something more sinister at work? My Thoughts The month of December is supposed to be a time of family gatherings to celebrate Christmas and ordinarily for Sean Grant and his sisters that would be the case but this year the murder of his sister Chelsea has he and his youngest sibling Bianca caught up in a police investigation and in the sights of a psychotic killer whose plans for the Grant family are not finished! Helene Collias is put in charge of investigating Chelsea Grant’s death, when she finds out her high school crush Sean Grant is the young woman’s brother old memories come to life and when the pair come face to face much to her chagrin the flames kindled in their youth are once again fanned for Helene. It takes a bit of time but Sean connects the dots also and his thoughts also turn to matters besides his sister’s demise causing him both guilt as well as hope for the future as he never had the chance to explain to Helene why he never sought her out after their interrupted moment of passion during their Senior cruise. If you are looking for a bit of light reading set amidst the Christmas holidays this certainly is not going to fit that need, however if you are looking for a well thought out murder mystery with a side of steamy romance to ease some of the tension faced by the main characters than you have found exactly what you were looking for. The book may be less than 200 pages but believe me you will find that the way it is constructed there is more than enough to keep you busy while you are enjoying how the story rolls out to it’s satisfactory conclusion. The mixture of paranormal elements lends just enough of an extra twist to keep things from becoming too routine. [Personal Kindle copy given an honest review]

2 stars for the story but an extra one for the super sexual tension. SEAN, THE MAN bit or chewed on his lip 5 times in this story. Really? It’s bad enough when a woman does that but for a man to do it is just ridiculous, and too effeminate. I cringed every time he did it. And I found the italics completely baffling at times. I didn’t know who was thinking or for what reason, it NEVER said, ever. There were just suddenly italics. The story itself I found very confusing at times and very boring at o 2 stars for the story but an extra one for the super sexual tension. The story itself I found very confusing at times and very boring at other times, so it was just ok for me. You didn’t have to guess who the bad guy was because you were told right off the bat. And, believe me, Preston was cray-cray. And there was absolutely nothing paranormal about this book. Helene waved a crystal over something twice and got nothing, and that was it. It wasn’t even talked about between her and Sean. Another thing that bothered me, which I have NEVER read before, was when first Helene then Brian Somer “licked a tooth.” Craziest thing I’ve ever heard of. The one good thing was the sexual tension that Sean and Helene had for each other. They both fought it because of her looking into his sister’s murder, but it was always there. I love sexual tension in a book. Sex is not really necessary as long as there’s tension. But sex was there and it was EXPLICIT. So if you don’t like sex in your books don’t buy this one. You’d think that with 8 reviews one person would have mentioned sex. I like sex in my books but I know a lot of you don’t. Swearing? Yes, there was that. There was a couple of GD’s and the F-BOMB was used 5 or 6 times.

Helene Collias has a bit of an edge over the rest of the shield carrying detectives on the Holly Municipal Police force. She has psychic powers and will need every bit of them to solve one of the creepiest cases of her career. To make matters worse, the victim is the sister of a ruggedly handsome guy she nearly hooked up with on a senior cruise in high school. Sean Grant lost his parents at a young age, now his younger sister is dead at the hands of a killer with an agenda. But what is his agenda? Why does he go after the Grant family with such a vengeance? Against her better judgment and department policy, Helene is drawn to Sean. She resists the attraction and so does Sean, but the urge to solve the case with its bizarre twists and turns drives both of them to distraction in more ways than one. This is a hot novel with edge of the seat pacing and a plot that doesn't let you down. Each character is richly drawn and believable. I especially appreciated the author's use of the paranormal, without relying on a magical solution to the case. Get it while it's hot hot hot! I give this book five sizzling stars for a great blend of solid police work, suspense, paranormal touches, and sexy characters who can't keep their hands off each other.

It's the Christmas season, but all sorts of bad things are happening. It seems a serial killer is on the loose and it's up to paranormal detective Helene Collias to solve the crime. Unfortunately, the victim's brother is "the one who got away" and her reemerging feelings for him may be jeopardizing her judgment. Lots of creepy elements in this novel, showing the seamier side of humanity and the spirit world alike. Recommended. It's the Christmas season, but all sorts of bad things are happening. A good, easy read One of a few ebooks I have read this year that was not so frustratingly littered with grammatical errors that I distracted from the story. A very light and easy read; good for a rainy day.
