Tepper has embarked on quite the project - interviews with numerous people who have worked on Broadway in various capacities over the years. Her focus is on the actual theaters, what makes them unique and the various stories from shows that ran in each of them. Part 1 focuses on four theaters - the Richard Rodgers, the Wintergarden, the Marriott Marquis, and the Al Hirschfield. Interesting looks at the theater history through the years.

I read the second installment of this book first and then started on the first installment (this one). It is split in two parts so this review is only for the first part. Great book for Broadway and theater lovers. It is deep with history on the actual theaters but also has lots of fun anecdotes and stories from various time periods and from various people who have worked in these spaces. I love theater so it is a good book series for me.

If you love Broadway, these books become addicting! I love these stories and anecdotes and facts about the Broadway experience by people who lived it. The author goes theater by theater and you get stories from stars, producers, door men, and everyone who takes part. The stories are remarkable.

The kind of book where you’re constantly memorizing anecdotes to text/tell your friends only to absorb a dozen more by the time you’re another ten pages in. Already started Vol. II.
