Opening Sentence: “Walpurgisnacht,” Mr. Kruger said, rocking back on his heels. The Review: Katy Ainsworth is a witch that attends a boarding school in Whitfield, Massachusetts. There is a special holiday approaching called Walpurgisnacht and legend says there are fairies that come out for the holiday. If you are lucky enough to catch one, it will grant you anything you wish. Katy and her group of friends decide to go hunting for a fairy even though they know the tales are superstitious. It turns out fairies really do exist and Katy catches one. Katy decides to make a few wishes but they all turn out disastrous! To undo the spells Katy must fight the Fairy Queen and hope that none of her wishes will leave permanent damage. First off, this is the first book I have read in this series. Sometimes I like to read novellas because you get a small taste of the story and gives you an idea on whether or not you want to continue reading. For the most part, I thought the author did a wonderful job introducing the world and I there were only a few times I felt confused by what was going on. I do think it would have been better if I had read other books first, but I felt like I got a pretty good grasp of the world and characters. Katy is the protagonist in the story and I really struggled with her. One of my biggest pet peeves is when a character has a poor me attitude and Katy definitely had this kind of attitude. I felt like all she did was complain about everything in her life and it honestly drove me crazy. As the story progresses she gets a little better, but I already disliked her so much it didn’t really make a difference. Peter is Katy’s boyfriend and honestly, I felt like he was kind of a jerk. He is continually brushing Katy off (which she complains about non-stop) and he just seemed like a really boring character. Once again he does get a little better by the end, but not enough to make me like him all that much. As you can tell this was a really rough read for me. Maybe if I had read the previous books in the series I would have liked the characters better, but I kind of doubt it. I did like the idea for the setting. I have always been a sucker for books set in boarding schools. I also think that the magical aspect could be very interesting if I was to read more, but ultimately I don’t really have any interest in reading anything else from this series. I felt absolutely no connection with any of the characters and the writing style felt a little on the juvenile side. If you enjoyed the other books in this series, I imagine you will like this novella, but if you are like me and haven’t read the series yet, I would personally recommend skipping this one. Notable Scene: “Wait up,” I yelled, moving toward where I thought he was. “Whistle or something, Cheswick.” There was no answer. “Cheswick?” Silence. “Hey! Anybody?” Again, Silence. I tried a whistle and waited for a response, but there was none. No sound. Nothing except for the droning of insects and the creaking of the tree branches high up, sounding as if the forest itself were weeping. I swallowed. The fog was getting thicker, covering my feet, I tried to whistle again, but my throat was so dry that nothing came out of my mouth except air. FTC Advisory: Simon Teen provided me with a copy of Wishes. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Unfortunately she finds one and learns that wishes have consequences. Popularity may cost you your true friends and leave you with only shallow imitations, sudden wealth could cost you the life of one you hold dear, and beauty brings those who ignore you for what they want to see. The old adage "Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it. Follow Kaity as she learns what is important in life and how rich she really is. This is a very enjoyable read with delightful, lively characters and an interesting plot. I would very much like to read the preceding stories in the legacy series, but this novella can be read as a stand alone. Pick up a copy to read for yourself and find out why I think it is such a fun read. Molly Cochran has developed a place where magical beings live along side humans in peace. While the world she has created is in no way perfect it is truly believable because of its failings. I do not think I would want to live in perfect world or even visit, but I wouldn't mind visiting Kaity and her friends from time to time. I'd love to share a cup of tea and a long chat with her Grandmother and Aunt. Stop by a visit yourself soon and find why "Wishes is such a great book yourself.

*This Book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review* I was excited when I was offered this book for review. I wish that there had been a bit more backstory for one of the characters especially, Artemisia, because she really intrigued me but I wonder now if that might be in one of the other books. I also wish that they had gone into more detail about the fire jumping and the Beltane celebration. I think that would have added more enjoyment for me. I received this book as a "stand alone" and didn't realize until coming to review it on Goodreads that it was part of a series. Although from looking at other comments people seem to agree that this can be read by itself I personally think that I would have liked it more if I had read the others first. I found that then end was a little confusing and I felt that generally the story was all action (which is normally good) but in this case I found I needed a little time to breathe. This could be because I was trying to learn about the world though which if I had read the others might not have been so important. I give this book 3 1/2 stars out of 5 which I rounded up to 4 on Goodreads and Amazon I think I probably would have given it an actual 4 if I had read the other books first. ***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official. Wishes is a very enjoyable read with lovely characters and an interesting plot. Katy seems like a great character. She’s a bit naïve and clumsy, too clumsy to believe at some points even. But she’s also fierce and brave, she won’t back down. I liked the world that Molly created, magical beings live among humans but in a peaceful way. The world might not be perfect but that is the great thing. Nothing is perfect after all. Since it’s only a novella Wishes is light and fast paced. It’s an enjoyable read and I probably would have liked it better if I had read the first two books in the series. Now I had only a vague image of the characters while I believe that they are all great characters. So I would recommend that you first read the other books in this series before you read this one.

'Wishes' is a companion novel to the Legacy series. Playful and light, 'Wishes' gives witchery a modern day feel. And, then that backfires. Everytime she makes a "wish" misfortune follows. The story pretty much follows that plot, will Katy be able to make things right? Will her wishes be her downfall? Stuff like that. The story is light and fast paced as I guess you would expect it to be at just a little over a hundred pages. If you haven't read the first two novels (I haven't) I think you will find Katy's naivete and timidness endearing. She's clumsy, and sort of fierce while maintaining a sense of bravado, and teenaged innocence. While the story is not mind blowing, it's enjoyable and would probably be better received after reading the first two books in the series, I would think; so that you can get a better feel for the world and it's characters. Although, it can be read as a stand-alone so should you prefer.

This was a delightful novella revolving around witches and fairies. I received a complimentary copy to read and review and am so thankful for it as I really enjoyed this story! I didn't realize this novella was part of a series. It stands on its own and you do not need to read the series to be able to read and enjoy this book! I now want to read the rest of the series and learn more about the characters. When Katy and her friends decide to hunt fairies on Walpurgisnacht, it is all fun and games. But Katy finds a little box with the tiniest of fortune cookie style paper inside that says, "Your wish will come true." Katy learns quickly that you must be careful what you wish for. As she changes her wish and a new one is granted, it seems more and more problems pop up. Really loved the world and how it is part of ours. All you need to do is...believe. :)

I didn't feel lost, even though I haven't read this series and this book is #2.5. Of course, I'm sure I would know and understand the characters better if I'd read the other books, but I thought it was a great snippet of what the series is about. I was thinking about what I would wish for and I think my wishes, as any, would only lead to problems as well. Things are the way they are in our lives for a reason. There were a few surprises and turns that I didn't see coming. I thought the ending was just right for this type of story. Content: a few swear words; some fantasy fighting violence that isn't graphic; kissing, with one scene that gets a little intense because of the wish. Clean.

3.5 Wishes is a novella than can be a complete stand alone from the Legacy series. I haven’t read the previous books, and I really enjoyed this companion. Katy thinks making wishes will fix everything for her. But sometimes it can be too much. I like that she was able to learn from the events that take place. After reading this, I want to star the rest of the series. It seems like Katy has a way of getting herself caught up in crazy things.
