I must say it is and it will forever be(fingers crossed) my favorite Manga novel read. the way Masashi Kishimoto described the characters is just awesome, you get to see them growing up, becoming responsible... powerful... and it is not just characters, The plot itself is so much bigger... u simply can't get enough of it. and add to that, u get more than just entertainment, you learn... what is responsibility, respect, kindness, friendship... so it is not just a manga it is a way of living... In just one volume, The Third Hokage delivers such a powerful message through his action. Just to see two powerful ninjas going at it is so rewarding, but then the story conveys such complex characterization and invites us to look at how one's belief in someone can shatter them forever. The story is hectic with plenty of different confrontations occuring around Konoha, but the build-up remains perfect. Naruto is the only only manga I am currently reading, not because I don't like the other stories but because I am hooked with this ninja world that I thought it is a crime to navigate away from this manga series when it is not yet finished. This volume is one of the best that Sir Kishimoto has written. The battle between a sensei (teacher) and his student is an extraordinary occurrence. Although the Third Hokage died at the end of the battle, he still won. Why? Because he didn't fight for his own good nor of fame and supremacy but out of his love for his village men, for the community of Konoha (Hidden Village of Leaf). I do not imagine things away from what Sir Masashi creates because his masterpiece alone feeds my fantasies. I thank him for designing such great manga series, for it entertained me and at the same time make me learn a lot of good things such as friendship, courage and sacrifice.

Konaha is still under attack and things are not looking good for the village. The battle between Orochimaru and Third Hokage intensifies as the Third Hokage has to make a choice one he should have made a few years back. The match is so intense and one I still remember to this day from the show because he really goes to show you how great of a leader Lord Third is. Naruto, Sakura, and Shikamaru are still on Sauske and Garaa's trail but run into some roadblocks along the way. No one is safe yet. This is by far the most interesting volume in this manga series. There is an all-out battle going on in the hidden leaf village. The fascinating battle between hokages. A terrifying technique to bring out dead people back. And finally we see the monster inside Gaara. It had everything.

Stay tuned! We follow several narratives: Orochimaru vs. Sarutobi, the pursuit for Sasuke who is in turn pursuing Gaara, Shikamaru vs. the 9 shinobi, Kankuro vs. Shino. Volume 14 begins, or should I say continues, where the previous volume left off - Orochimaru has used the reanimation justu to summon the 1st & 2nd Hokage, brothers and founding fathers of Konoha! This forbidden jutsu is very nostalgic but also relevant towards the story, so don't forget it! Pakkun, Sakura, Naruto and Shikamaru are pursuing Sasuke, but are in turn pursued by 9 of Orochimaru's shinobi. Master strategist Shikamaru decides their only viable option is for him to remain behind and work on a diversion-detainment since his shadow-paralysis technique fits the role best. He ends up being overwhelmed, but Asuma shows up in the nick of time and we get to see briefly what his skills are like. Honestly when you think about it, the battle between Sarutobi and the two summons is more profound than its first impression - it's a deliberate double sensei versus student. I'm ashamed to admit that because I watched the anime 10 years ago I honestly did not remember how this battle developed. No wonder the ending was depressing - three versus one is not an honorable fight, but neither is revenge an honorable pursuit to begin with. Despite being the antagonist, Orochimaru remains an extremely fascinating character with a pretty classic pursuit: eternal life at any cost. However, this pursuit is only the external, supportive one. The actual core pursuit is ultimate knowledge. At heart, he is a scientist, albeit a twisted one. The art of immortality is a transference technique, ultimately at the mercy of acquiring vessels for replacement. Sarutobi realizes almost immediately what Sasuke is being pursued for. He then decides to use the Death Reaper Seal jutsu on the 3 opponents in exchange for his life, a jutsu invented by the 4th to seal the Nine Tails. I think this was one of the most complex and revealing volumes yet, but I'm sure there will be more like it, as Naruto is a story that is sitting on a very wide and solid foundation.

This volume 13 was a little bit complex. There are some magics which I have never seen from 1st volume. In addition, another battle was dead heating. I was attracted the battle of third Hokage and Orochimaru. I thought that finally the Hokage went to the end. The story reached climax! Also, one of the my favorite characters, Shikamaru showed his smartness.

HOKAGE Their village is under attack, and Naruto, Sakura and Shikamaru can't stay behind to defend it. They have a top priority mission to track down Sasuke and the Sand genin. But with nine bloodthirsty ninja on their heels, the hunters have quickly become the hunted! Back at the village, the Third Hokage is still trapped in Orochimaru's impenetrable barrier. Pushed to the breaking point, the Hokage must decide how far he will go to save what is precious to him! MY OPINION The village is in danger, and as Sasuke trails Gaara's team, Naruto, Sakura and Shikamaru are trailing him. But it quickly becomes clear that the three rookies are also being followed by nine enemy ninja, prompting Shikamaru to break off from the group and stay behind as a distraction while the others continue on. Led by Kakashi's ninja hound, Pakkun, Sakura and Naruto hurry after Sasuke. Meanwhile, the Hokage faces off with Orochimaru, who reanimates the First and Second Hokages to face the Third. Soon, it becomes apparent that Orochimaru left the village after he wasn't chosen as the Third Hokage's successor. The reason he wasn't chosen was because there was a darkness in Orochimaru that many could not see, or pretended not to. It was revealed that he had been trying to perfect a jutsu that would allow him to continue living for eternity. That is why he wants Sasuke, so he can shape the boy and one day take possession of Sasuke's body. Sasuke soon catches up to Gaara's group and is prepared to face Kankuro while Temari escapes with Gaara, but Shino appears first and insists that he fight Kankuro while Sasuke goes after Gaara. Sasuke does, and as Shino and Kankuro face off, Sasuke soon catches up to Gaara once more, only to witness the strange and bloodthirsty sand genin transform into a monster. Is this the mysterious Shukaku that Gaara told Shikamaru and Naruto about? And what will be the fate of the Third Hokage as he unleashes a powerful jutsu that could be the death of both him and Orochimaru? Quote: "The villagers believe in me, and I believe in all of them... that is what being Hokage means!"

Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people. Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world. Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child. On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time. Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers. Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption. Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes. The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes. The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on. On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story. Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc... Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.

Unlike many serials, the ever-hyped Naruto franchise is desevring of its popularity due to the storyline's ability to consistantly thrill, with cliffhangers which find resolution in a logical manner. In this tankobon (released in America during a time of rapid-fire Naruto publications, timed in order to catch up with and pace the original Japanese storyline), there is plenty of action... but also some critical back history on the story's then-primary antagonist, Orochimaru. The physical strength of the aged Third Hokage (who had retired, but stepped up to his durites once again after the Nine-Tailed Fox spirit - yes, the one infamously sealed inside the titular character - killed the Fourth Hokage) is tested... and the character, who had until now been a lampoonery of the classic Japanese leader stereotype-of-old, becomes as rich as many others found in modern-day fiction. Suffice to say, this is not a stand-alone volume to be read by a newcomer to the Naruto story, nor does it serve as an adequate "jumping off" point. However, taken in its proper context, the story (though arguably slow-moving) is enhanced, and the characterizations are given adequate focus.

Here we witness an incredible Kage level fight between the third Hokage vs. the first and the second Hokage's reanimation resurrected by Orochimaru. In this volume, Haruzen Sarutobi or the third Hokage tells us what it means to be a Hokage. The title of Hokage is responsible for carrying on the will of fire. Sarutobi, therefore, vows to fight for his people (his family) till his last breath. This story literally brought me to tears. Shikamaru leaves the Sakura and Naruto to delay the sound ninja pursuing them. The fight between Orochimaru and the Third Hokage continues. Kankuro is defeated by Shino. THis felt like an in-between volume and the good stuff is ahead.
