ABOUT BOOK ONE It all started with a note, just a simple note hand written by a woman I didn't know, never even met. But in that note is perhaps every answer to every question I've ever had in my life. And because of that note, I travel thousands of miles. I look for her, but find him. I'm drawn to his passion, his talent, a darkness in him that somehow becomes my light, my life. I know he has secrets. I don't care. Because you see, I have secrets, too. I’m not Aria Alard, daughter to an Italian musician, as he believes. I’m Aria Stradivari, daughter to Alessandro Stradivari, a musician born from the same blood as the man who created the famous Stradivari violin. I am as rare as the mere 650 instruments my ancestors created. Instruments worth millions. 650 masterpieces, the brilliance unmatched. 650 reasons to kill. 650 reasons to hide. One reason to not to: him. Quick review for a quick read. I think I still have issues with Mark's narrative voice, but on the whole - this was a better novella in the "Inside Out" series than "The Master Undone", at least as far as the ones I've read. This narrative takes place during the time of the third book, so fair warning for spoilers. Mark's still dealing with his attraction to Crystal, and yet juggling his mother's cancer diagnosis (which my heart kind of hurts because I keep picking up narratives that remind me of Quick review for a quick read. This narrative takes place during the time of the third book, so fair warning for spoilers. Mark's still dealing with his attraction to Crystal, and yet juggling his mother's cancer diagnosis (which my heart kind of hurts because I keep picking up narratives that remind me of my recent loss, but I digress). This narrative feels more relevant on a few levels for symbolism. "My Hunger" could mean Mark's inability to let Rebecca go and his pains in missing her as the case details unfold. It could also mean Mark's need for control in his respective situations, such as in his relationship with Crystal or his yearning to return to his D/s type relationships or controlling the press as things start breaking down for the investigation into Rebecca's death as well as the corruption in Mark's business. It could mean his growing desire for Crystal as she's breaking down his usual habits. There's a lot going on, with Ava being in the middle of the accusations in the case. Mark's trying to save face in the accusations leveled against him and Sara in Rebecca's death. I'll admit that to me it still doesn't make a whole heck much sense considering the details of the case, but I'm still following it to see where it goes. I'll admit it's hard to feel invested when it seemed like one plot thread was solved and another decides to blow wide open because of contradiction. That could either be a brilliant twist or a plot hole blown wide open. Mark's narration was a little better in this - and the intensity in his assertions and desperation with everything going on is warranted. Something about it still feels awkward, and I can't place it for details. I liked the story, don't get me wrong, but the devil's in the details here - it seems like it's setting up a massive conflict with Mark in the center, but I'm wondering if it's not just opening a whole bunch more for plot points only to be unresolved/untied. The novella leaves off on a note with Mark's distancing, with a vow he'll do so for good with respect to his relationship with Crystal. Crystal's character has been okay so far, but I still feel like she's at a distance in the narrative. I think I'll wait until reading the next novella to see where this one ends up. Hopefully with some more expansions/reveals to be had. Overall score: 2/5 stars Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from Pocket Star.

This ARC was given by Lisa Renee Jones and Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. My Hunger continues the story of revealing more secrets of Mark Compton and gives little glimpses into other characters from the If I Were You series. Mark is use to being in control of his world, his needs, and his life. He is quickly losing control when his mother is diagnosed with cancer, a major scandal is exposed in his gallery, and Rebecca is gone because of him. Through his loss of control, he realizes he ruined Rebecca by making her his submissive. He also discovers he might have loved Rebecca. This is a feeling he does not allow when it comes to women and submissives. He finds it difficult to face the future and all of his problems alone. Crystal Smith is perhaps the only woman that sees his pain and loneliness when she looks into his eyes. He knows that he sees the same sense of feelings in her eyes as well. It is then that he realizes the only way to gain back his control is to give up the control he vindicates is necessary. Both Crystal and Mark know loneliness and have a hunger to stop feeling lonely in their chaotic lives. Their hunger for one another let them understand that Mark will never be the man she deserves and Crystal will never be the submissive that he desires and needs. However, this hunger allows them to forget their desires and needs in order to dissolve the pain that consumes their own lives. Lisa Renee Jones delivers yet another story that sheds light on the mystery of Rebecca and what may have happened to her. This particular story gives more insight into the powerful Mark Compton and allows the reader to understand why a man of his power desires control in all aspects of his life. It is also gives hope to Mark Compton fans that there might be hope that control is not a way to eliminate loneliness and pain.

The chemistry is high, the plot thickens, and I’m left NEEDING the next book! :)

I don't believe Rebecca's dead and I'm extremely disheartened at the bizarre turn this series has taken. I hated the introduction of Crystal and her continued presence, particularly the way Mark seems weirdly obsessed with this chick in Kardashian-inspired clothes, has me wondering if there's any hope this series will be turned around. I LOVE Lisa Renee (She is an absolute DOLL) but with this new addition to the series and the way Crystal continues to be put forth as viable has me miserable. I LOVE Lisa Renee (She is an absolute DOLL) but with this new addition to the series and the way Crystal continues to be put forth as viable has me miserable. It's Mark's constant internal whining about his "need" for Crystal and how HE doesn't even understand it. It's called HORNINESS!!! He's allowing her into his life in a way the luminous (and truly deserving) Rebecca desperately wanted but was never allowed. Yet, suddenly, he's opening up to Crystal, who also, suddenly, has a tragic past... Mark doesn't understand his attraction to Crystal and neither do I. From the moment she first appeared I was like "Hold on... What?!" I just feel she doesn't belong in this story. Crystal is a square peg in the Inside Out series. She doesn't fit. And even if she was created as a literary device, a means to an end, she's far too ANNOYING a distraction to justify her presence in this convoluted tale. I don't buy anything about her and Mark, not even as casual boinkers (no lie, when the sex scenes popped up I was so uncomfortably disengaged, so unable to feel ANYTHING, I skipped ahead... Mark and Crystal together are so unnatural they creep me out). I am especially bothered at the way she's being made into one of the family as his mother suffers from cancer. It's so forced. Even descriptions of her provocative clothing (red dress, sheer sleeves) are so unlike anything the Mark we met in the beginning would have found appealing. Hey, maybe LRJ can pass him off as Mark's evil twin... it's a little late but there's precedence.... Much as I love LRJ it's not a little heartbreaking that what started out as a tale of a messed up man's path to salvation in the arms of love has become a typical piece of beach erotica. LRJ is so much better than this as evidenced by the original three books and Rebecca's breathtaking, heartbreaking journals. I hope and pray she can salvage this story but as long as Mark is "doing" Crystal while mourning Rebecca it ain't happening for me. All I know is I do not want to read any more of Mark's "sexy" thoughts about Crystal. Honestly, if Rebecca IS still alive, I'm starting to hope she finds a better man than one who could so quickly holler "NEXT!" This may just be my viewpoint but I had to express it. I feel horrible being the lone voice of descent among all the glowing reader reviews (and I wonder why it's just me and why I see things so differently than the majority...) but this continued direction down what I feel is the wrong path, just isn't working for me. I want so badly for Mark to find redemption with Rebecca that anything else feels wrong.

**FULL REVIEW** “To most, Rebecca had been an employee at my San Francisco art gallery. To some, she’d been known to be my submissive, a woman who shared my home and my life. To some, she’d been known to be my submissive, a woman who shared my home and my life. Again. In the meantime, Mark is in New York at his mother’s bedside, while she recovers from surgery. Hopes are high that she will be home resting soon and he can return to California and deal with the fallout from the other situations surrounding his gallery. After all, he has the very capable, very sexy, very dominant Crystal to take care of anything Riptide needs in New York. Problem is, Crystal stirs something in Mark that he can’t quite put his finger on…it makes him both incredibly aware of his weaknesses, and amazingly aroused. “There was not a submissive bone in Crystal’s body last night—or ever, for that matter—and I’d still wanted her.” *** “The attraction between us is a simmering heat ready to boil over, and no matter how absolutely wrong she is for me, or me for her, we aren’t through with each other.” There is more to the story than where Mark is headed…and whether or not he’ll ever be able to be the “Master” he once was again. And now, more than just his sexual prowess is at stake. Ava is crazy, which we’ve established…and it’s an election year…there is no body, no evidence…and someone has to take the fall. Will it be Mark or can he convince Ava once and for all to come clean and put the memory of the one woman he’s ever loved to rest? I am 100%, completely head-over-heels, got it so bad, for Mark Compton! I love his outer dominance and hard façade…and yet, he’s just as jilted with the situation as anyone with an actual heart would be. The confidence he exudes while secretly questioning every decision he’s ever made, especially with the one woman who has left his life but has forever become a part of his heart. I am so excited to see what happens with No In Between, the answers to all the questions surrounding Rebecca, and now Ava and Crystal with Mark is going to be epic. EPIC! Every time I pick up one of these books by Lisa Renee Jones, I quiver with anticipation because I just know that the twists and turns she weaves into her stories will take me on a ride unlike any other. This one was no exception; this novella reads like a full-length novel yet STILL leaves me wanting more. **5 Un-Mastered Master Stars**

Mark’s POV is shared as his life begins to implode on itself as his emotional turmoil mounts. There seems to be no safe harbor for his sinking ship, until Crystal, his ailing mother’s right hand woman enters the picture. Strong, dominant and stunning, Crystal has none of the qualities mark looks for in a submissive for his lifestyle. But, there is chemistry, hot, fast and furious, but like a blast of cold water, Crystal is gone. How could just the thought of this woman have him twisted in knots? Lisa Renee Jones hooked me with Rebecca's Journals and I've been clamoring to understand her relationship with Mark and the mystery of her disappearance. I'm not convinced we've seen the last of her . Naturally, any part of the story sharing Marks point of view is going to peak my interest and in this case, it also induced some anxiety. My Hunger is a wonderful take on a slice of time when Mark is in an emotional and mental crisis brought on by Ava's revelations from Being Me. Mark Compton has many secrets to hide, a family enduring personal pain and a business in flux. What I love about the way this is written is that as Mark is moving through his world, while he is taking care of business, he encounters many memories that completely catch him off guard and we finally see Mark losing a bit his control. He is not always the cold bastard I had identified him as. But the facade remains for most of the world to see and it takes someone new, Crystal Smith, entering his life as an employee (they never learn) for Mark to finally allow himself to confront his failures as Rebecca's protector. I went into this read filled with anxiety and in the end, the anxiety remains. I need resolution on Rebecca's story. I am a romantic and although I would love to see the impossible, I am slowly coming to accept that what's best is what Mark starts to uncover in My Hunger . I may not get the happily ever after I wanted but I'm looking forward to some resolution from No In Between.

My Review: I am so ready for Mark and Crystal's story. While these little glimpses are fantastically fun to read, I need and want more. This one takes up where HIS SECRETS left off. I love how Crystal pushes Mark, but does not let him bully her into fulfilling the role he wants her to play. They are absolutely combustible together and there is something so emotionally satisfying by watching him lose control of his hard-core facade and melt emotionally with her. I cannot wait for more!

Uncontrollable? I've been anxiously waiting for more of Mark & Crystal and I was not disappointed. Mark has to be in control, right? Crystal is not a submissive, right? Yup, that's what I've been waiting for. I was ready for the sparks to fly to see who ends up on top, or who might be topping from the bottom. Well, I got my sparks, Crystal is just as feisty as I remembered. The investigation is still going on and there is more mystery to unravel, this isn't the end, stay tuned for My Control. I'm still not the biggest fan of Mark and Crystal's relationship, but this installment was incredibly hot! There are even more glimpses of Mark's vulnerability as he's still reeling from what happened with Rebecca. The circumstances and his guilt have made him question his ability to continue being a Master. If it's even necessary. In my opinion, with what's going on with him and Crystal, he needs to just let it go and enjoy what he could have with her. XO! Hero –Mark Compton: 4.5 stars Heroine –Crystal Smith: 4.5 stars Steam: 4.5 stars Plot: 4.5 stars Cliffhanger: Yes Would I recommend this book: Yes! This is a look at Mark the man and not Mark the Master. It shows him as a man that doesn’t believe that he can love while the truth is that he is a man that does love and deeply. I love the way this gives his perspective of things that have transpired in previous books, it is illuminating. Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I have enjoyed all of Ms. Jones books and look forward to the next addition in the “Inside Out Series”. ***Received an ARC of this book from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review*** My Hunger Lisa Renee Jones

"The dynamic of a Master and submissive relationship are defined by each couple, but the basics are the same. It's the Master's job to protect the submissive, and put his or her pleasure and safety before all else." After finding out that he was Rebecca's Master, more intriguing Mark became to me. I understand Detective Grant is just doing his job, but why is he going after Mark like that? He didn't do it dammit. We all know Ava confessed. She's playing insanity to get away with it. I understand Detective Grant is just doing his job, but why is he going after Mark like that? He didn't do it dammit. We all know Ava confessed. She's playing insanity to get away with it. I can't believe all of this because she wanted to be his sub. She really is crazy. "How do I ever trust myself to be anyone's Master again? Who am I, if I'm not that person." After Rebecca disappearing and learning the truth, Mark is so full of doubt. Doubt that he wasn't the right Master to keep her safe. At one point he reads a part from her journal and realizes he couldn't love her the way she loved him. Why? Now he feels if he could've loved her, she'd still be alive. No Mark, not true. Because if you did love her you would've been too blind to see the truth. Mark is smart. He has the power. He needs to get it together before others are hurt. That's including Crystal. "Lick me, please, Mr. Compton," I instruct. "Fuck you, Mr. Compton." I think he really likes her. Yes he's going to push her because he doesn't feel worthy to be a Master again. Yet, he already slept with her and continues to pursue her and sleeps with her again. Once again, Why? Mark why don't you leave her alone? You know she's not sub material. You're using her to forget. Or are you? "You own me when I'm here and only when I'm here." Crystal you're playing with fire. You're supposed to be their for his mother, not chase the son who you don't plan on submitting to. Because let's face it honey, you are loving every minute of your time with him. I do love their chemistry together and I hope there's more to this than business and pleasure. I'm scared that the wrong things are being stirred up and more people are goin to get dragged into Rebecca's death. Mentions of Chris and Sara having to come back because it looks like they ran away. Mark needs all the help he can get. This serie is brilliant and no wonder it's getting a sitcom. Can't wait to see what's next. *An arc was received by the publisher via NetGalley*

In My Hunger by Lisa Renee Jones we dive back in to the beautifully messed up mind of Mr. Mark Compton. With recent events, there is chaos all around him, personally and professionally. And the man who always is in complete control, really...has no control at all, especially when a certain female is close by. ❝...she'd been screaming more, more, more. Demanding more, when it is I who demand. I who decide when and how, and what is satisfaction.❞ Mark Compton continues to be a mystery to me, but I In My Hunger by Lisa Renee Jones we dive back in to the beautifully messed up mind of Mr. Mark Compton. He has fascinated me from day one, and I know Lisa Renee Jones will not disappoint when it comes to this amazing, complicated man. We first get a glimpse of what is going on in Mark's head in Master Undone, and he continues to struggle with his control. He feels mostly guilt now, and that is tearing away at his control, his power to dominate, and his willingness to move past this. This woman, Crystal, who has become very close to his family, is everything he doesn't need right now, and absolutely EVERYTHING that he CRAVES. He knows he cannot dominate her, and he knows that she will never call him MASTER, but that doesn't stop him from trying. ❝I'm using you. I'm fucking you. I'm never going to be anyone you deserve.❞ ❝Then we won't deserve each other.❞ For a novella, My Hunger packs a hell of a punch. Sexy, suspenseful, and emotionally charged, the Inside Out Series is one of the best series out there. Each novella that Lisa releases leads us closer and closer to the end game and what is sure to be everyone's happily ever after. I can't wait for more secrets to unfold, and more surprises to come to light. Never has a series given me so much anxiety, and so much delight at the same time. I am counting down the days until Lisa transports us back in to the mind of Mr. Compton and the woman who drives him mad. *Gifted copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review* Read more of my reviews at Shayna Renee's Spicy Reads

This takes place in NY and San Francisco. It starts out with Mark in NY visiting his mother at the hospital where he still can't get her mind off Crystal. He feels likes he's losing control what with the guilt that's easting at him about Rebecca, his fear at seeing his mother so frail and the conflicting emotions over the night before. His mind is racing and his thoughts are scattered but they all end up back on Crystal. "She is everything I don’t want, yet the minute she’d shown up at my hotel for work, and our eyes had met, the inevitable was in the air." Crystal is unlike any woman he's ever been attracted to. She won't stand for his Dom persona but she will give into her attraction to Mark if given the chance. Mark just can't believe that he gave into his attraction without feeding his Dom desires. And this troubles him greatly. "Just a fuck... Those three words bother me not because she wrote them, but because the very fact that this was not my normal kind of fuck, makes it not just a fuck." But as juicy as all this Crystal and Mark mess is, things back in San Francisco are escalating so Mark flies back to settle things before they become worse. Once again, his world is turned on its axis--his involvement with Rebecca comes back to haunt him and new information surfaces that affect him and his business. And thought it all, his mom and Crystal are in the forefront of his mind--like he doesn't have enough to deal with! His one escape--the very woman he isn't supposed to want. “Rules make you think. Don’t think, Mark. Just forget it all, and fuck me.” I loved it all!! I'm sorry that I took such pleasure from Mark's troubles but I loved seeing him all ruffled and conflicted. And I loved Crystal! In Lisa Renee Jones' fashion, emotions are running rampant, the suspense intensifies and sparks fly. All in all, A great little novella that left me wanting more! *I received this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

But Crystal doesn’t stay in New York for long, especially when things take a turn for the worst and rushes to Mark only to see a glimpse into the man that he didn’t want her exposed to. One encounter between Mark & Crystal left me wanting to see these two develop past a simple one night stand. With My Hunger, I got that. But there was just something that felt off, not in the writing or the story itself – but with my reaction to Mark. When I first started this series, I was team Mark. Not in the way that I wanted him to end up with Sara, just in the way that he was the perfect mix of dangerous and mysterious that I was stuck on his character from the start and found it hard to focus beyond wanting to get inside his head more and more with each book. There is something about the Mark that I’ve seen in the last two novella’s that focus on him that leaves me feeling like the things that drew me to him suddenly faded. So much of Mark came through the eyes of Sara and memories of Rebecca that the image painted of Mark was what I wanted, now seeing him through his own words, in his own voice – I feel a bit disconnected from all the traits and feelings he originally evoked. I am not sure if the tear down of Mark’s character is so that he can be rebuilt with the new love interest of Crystal – someone who obviously is strong – but appears to be strong as way to escape something in her past. I feel invested into these two characters and will continue on with them through their journey, I just hope that the Mark that first caught my eye returns.

I can't get enough of Mark and Crystal! No matter what Mark says the end has not come. I don't think that's possible. He might be messed up about the whole Rebecca situation, but I think that Crystal can make him move on. I just want them together... The fact that Rebecca's body has yet to be found makes me uneasy. I keep thinking that somehow she is not dead and she will show up and complicate everything. I know that it sounds crazy, but you never know. I guess I will have to wait until Revealing us to see what is going to happen. Mark is not the master anymore and to be honest I was expecting something more from him. I hope that will be remedied. The blurb for My Control, the next novella about Mark's story, sounds very promising: I have lost the man I once was, letting guilt and heartache define who I am. Darkness has controlled me, and one woman has seen what no one else has seen in me, what I do not wish to exist. My hunger for her has driven me to the edge of sanity, but no more. She's about to find out that the Master has returned. And if I am lucky the she is referring to Crystal and not Rebecca. But, if I want to be honest I will have to admit that I liked the idea of Rebecca and Mark together. I am curious about what will happen next. Crystal is not a submissive and Mark is a master. It's going to be quite a journey.

This book continues the story of Mark and Crystal, which started in The Master Undone. I loved that it is in Mark’s POV. I enjoy learning about the internal struggles Mark faces as his encounters with Crystal continue. Mark is a character that I have always had a soft side for throughout the series, but this book makes me like him even more. There is more to Mark than meets the eye. Mark is a character that I just crave more information about. This book reveals more about him than we have known previously, especially about his relationship with his family, but he still has lots of secrets that I am yearning to learn. My Hunger has several steamy scenes that make me want to know a man like Mr. Compton, but it also deals with Mark’s loss of Rebecca, his unexpected emotions over her, and how he copes with a sudden unexpected illness in his family. A lot of action is packed into this novella, yet it still leaves you wanting to know more. I can’t wait for the next installment and hope to read more in Mark’s POV.

From the very beginning of the series, Mark has had a determined yet mysterious persona. This novella focuses on Mark and Crystal, providing an explanation of events that have been occurring throughout the series. For the first time, we are seeing glimpses of a man who is capable of feeling emotion. Without giving away any possible spoilers, all I can say is that I am expecting all my questions to not only be answered in the next installment, but I may even hold out for a pretty bow and a cherry on top. As anxious as I am to get to the end, there’s a part of me that isn’t quite ready to say goodbye to these characters. This series has been strong enough to maintain reader interest throughout both the regular size novels and the various novellas. However, I am to the point where I am really starting to dislike cliffhangers. Once again, as the layers are peeled away, new character traits are revealed. Exactly how this series will end is now anyone’s guess.

My first impression of Mark was that he was a controller like Chris but he was not ready to develop a relationship beyond bdsm. In "My Hunger" it becomes clear that Mark is actually a man coping with demons. It seems that Mark actually might be more stable than Chris was but Mark and Crystal's story is not a elegant as Chris and Sara's. Mark keeps denying that he wants more than sex with Crystal where as Chris knew he wanted Sara and kept trying to convince her it was true that he was in love with her. If you like romantic suspense this book is for you. The romance is the background story surrounded by a criminal investigation involving the murder of Rebecca. There is some hope that Rebecca may actually still be alive. I will continue through the series as I am anxious to find out if Crystal and Mark give up or give in.

I have been a fan from the moment I picked up her first book in this series and I cannot wait to read Lisa Renee Jones newest book No In Between. With that being said, I'm looking forward to reading how the author conveys his transformation. Will Mark simmer down and find true love, or will he continue to dwell in the coldness of BDSM relationships that are devoid of true intimacy? Hmmmm... Now that will be very interesting to witness... I just LOVE the Inside Out series, this novella is Marks point of view. This is part of a series, and is best if you have read the other books first because each book builds up to the next.
