I found a cache of Mignon Eberhart books at a local bookstore. I had never read any of them and I had a space of time coming up where I would be glad of a handy mystery. Of the three I have read so far this is the best. They are definitely vintage. It’s rather fun to read. Like watching an old movie. I had never read any of them and I had a space of time coming up where I would be glad of a handy mystery. Of the three I have read so far this is the best. They are definitely vintage. It’s rather fun to read. Like watching an old movie. They seem to be written in a formulaic manner: Man dies, beautiful woman finds him, house full of suspects and intrigue, crusty old investigator. The story as it proceeds is full of holes investigation-wise. Compared to more recent suspense mysteries these books are like a child’s jigsaw puzzle. But like a good old film these books are fun to read. Very indicative of a more innocent time. When murder was a rarity and always made front page news.
