Unfortunately, I did not feel anything between the 2 MC's. There were also time jumps that took away from the story, in my opinion. Too many things were glossed over and I wanted to know about them. I’m not sure what to say about this book. It was fast and although it takes place over months, I didn’t really feel the connection between the characters. I really don’t have any desire to read the other stories in this series though I own them in a paperback volume.

Detroit Warlocks 1 I’m really enjoying reading some of Stephani’s older stories now that they are being re-released and this was a great start to a series featuring Warlocks

A fairly tropey story but I appreciated the H/C aspect and the worldbuilding.

I thought this would be in the same universe as the Drone Vampires series as that too has warlocks and is set in Michigan, but this series seems to be in some sort of dystopia-ish setting. I don't recall ever hearing in the Drone Vampire series Internment camps for warlocks, so I'm going to assume that it's in the same setting, but a different time and therefore not inter-connected in any way. I actually thought it was better written than some of the Lost Shifter/Wayne Co books that have been released lately. It's short and some things are glossed over, but...I don't know. I liked the overall writing better than the other recent books of hers that I've read. I don't know if I can explain it. Suffice to say, it didn't annoy me like some of her others have. This doesn't mean it's the best it could be or that I'm wowed by it. I'm not. I just didn't find myself as annoyed as when I read books from Wayne Co lately. I liked that there wasn't sex right away. Delton was described as being emaciated and a "walking skeleton" due to his imprisonment and I wouldn't have been pleased if sex happened right off the bad. I mean, it would have been...weird. There was a one month later sort of thing, where there was time for Delton to improve and even though that was like one major sex scene and it was pretty short...plot-wise it made sense. I couldn't see them fucking like rabbits with someone described as a skeleton. Some things that did stick out to me: 1. The name Vicen. My mind constantly wanted to read it as Vincen 2. The term "warlock' is very fantasy orientated in its usage. Modern practitioners of magic (Pagans, etc) don't use the term. A male is a witch, just as a female is a witch. Also, at least within Paganism, warlock usually has negative connotations of "oath-breaker" and other things. That being said, these characters throw fireballs and do other fantasy-magic type stuff, so I'm not annoyed. If they were supposed to be more Pagan-like (and realistic in the depiction of magic) I would have had an issue due to it being inaccurate. 3. The feel of the book and I'm going to assume continuing series has a Lost Shifter/Drone Vampire feel to it in that you have a rebel group (the good guys), fighting against The Big Bad, all the while saving those of their group (protecting the Drone Vampires, finding all the Lost Shifters and in this case helping warlocks that manage to escape the prison). Hopefully the plot won't become a carbon copy of these series! 4. It could have been longer so more parts could have been fleshed out.

I love her books but this time I'm not impressed at all. Idea great but realization not so much. Story is to short, and everything seems to be rushed and touched just a little. Zero real passion or feelings between MC's. I was thinking the whole time: really? How? Why? What? Uff... it's a promise for nice story but not enough story in story. This is a first part in Detroit City Warlocks series, and even if it's, way to short, it's a solid read. I liked it overall. This is a first part in Detroit City Warlocks series, and even if it's, way to short, it's a solid read. I liked it overall.
