Sugar and Spice by Angela Britnell was everything nice. I love me a great HEA and combined that with a great foodie book, wonderful characters, wicked ex's and a sassy spunky 8 year old and you have a win ~ win on your hands. Lily Redman loves to cook. When she is in the kitchen, she is in her zone. Her greatest joy is feeding people. When she is in the kitchen, she is in her zone. Her greatest joy is feeding people. After leaving Tennessee and a cheating ex, she travels to Cornwall to drum up some of the best local talent for a new network television program, Celebrity Chef Swap. She is determined to make it on her own and prove to herself that she is something without her lousy, cheating ex. But her path to finding the Celebrity Chefs just got a little more complicated, when she meets Kenan Rowse. Kenan Rowse is recently back from Afghanistan. His track record with women sucks. He is dealing with a cheating ex-wife and an 8 year old daughter that he has not seen in over 4 years. He doesn't need complications. When he agrees to be Lily Redman's driver, he needs to keep reminding himself to keep his eye on the road and his hands off the sexy, sassy red head. Just when it looks like Lily and Kenan might give in to the passion building between them, complications from the ex's, the arrival of his daughter, and a game of sabotage might detail this daring duo before they get out of the gate. I loved Kenan's character. He has seen and experienced things that nobody should have to endure. I don't want to spoil the book so I am not going to get into his past, but I can tell you, it will make you hurt for what he has endured. Lily is a strong, independent woman who is out to prove something to herself and along the way to Kenan as well. I loved Mandy, Kenan's daughter. She is spunky, sassy, sweet and endearing. Even though this was a longer book, it flowed well and before I realized it, I was at the end. I loved what Ms. Britnell did with these character and the ending of the story was just so sweet. So if you are looking for cute summer read that is full of Sugar and Spice and everything nice then grab a copy of Sugar and Spice by Angela Britnell. I loved this story so much I gave it 5 spicy stars.

Cute and fun and with a bit of drama in it. Lily is a chef and is always on the go. The book felt cute and I cheered for them.

I loved this book, it was a perfect feel good read, hero and heroine face lots of rough patches and difficulties, but love wins through. At first, I struggled to like Lily; she was initially portrayed as a somewhat brash character, but as the plot developed and her character rounded I saw beyond the outer packaging to the inner person and I fell in love with her. Kenan presents a prickly exterior which hides a sensitive personality and stoic charm. Sugar and Spice is pure romantic escapism, I was gripped from the beginning and didn't want to put the book down. I loved the contrast between Lily's vibrant character and Kenan's dour, protective nature and the developing relationship between Lily and Kenan's daughter, Mandy. If you're looking for a book to snuggle down with on a winter's night, nothing too challenging, but a light, entertaining read, then this might well fit the bill.

A fast-paced easy read in the romance genre. The novel is set in England and features a celebrity chef attempting to secure contracts with other world-famous chefs to appear on a TV show she's pitching. She is immediately attracted to a man she's hired to be her driver. A fun read. A fast-paced easy read in the romance genre. The blurb for Sugar and Spice sounds brilliant and really very interesting and I thought this book should be totally my cup of tea. I mean, it is about a Chef, so there are going to be tons of eating for sure...! And the two main characters were described as a chalk and cheese so I was hoping for a real chemistry. And I have never read Angela Britnell before, and reading an author for the first time is always a great experience for me. Meet Lily, a Chef who has achieved everything only thanks to her hard work. Living in the US, she's presently in Cornwall where she's going to meet and convince some of the top chefs to take part in her new show, Celebrity Chef Swap. She also wants to run away from her cheating ex - boyfriend, but it's not going to be so easy: he's also her manager and producer of the show and doesn't seem to understand the word "ex". Lily doesn't want to drive herself on the wrong side of the road, so she needs a driver. Her landlady is able to organize this and we are introduced to Kenan, who doesn't speak much and who has some issues. He's back from Afghanistan and he misses his daughter whom he hasn't seen for six long years. So, Lily and Kenan set off on a journey through Cornwall and, as it happens, a journey full of adventures. They can't reach a destination without something happening, without a phone - call from home, without exes returning/coming and bringing children back or plotting something really bad. But in the little meantime that they have, some feelings start to develop between them. Unfortunately, the whole world is against them. Will they manage to stay together? Lily is introduced to us as a sexy, confident Luscious Lily, with her own TV show, a businesswoman who knows what she wants. It would be okay, but unfortunately, Lily has lost some brownie points in my eyes already at the beginning, when she first met Kenan. I personally felt very uncomfortable with the way she has talked with him and behaved, and in my opinion it was not necessary. She was so patronising, so arrogant, so cocky that I just couldn't believe my eyes. She was a complex character, that's for sure, once like an angel, nice, calm, ladylike, and the next second like a bully with the killèm - all approach. Yes, she was witty, she had a sharp tongue and had clever ideas, but she was for me like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Kenan was other story. Quiet, looking for his own space in the world, trying to find himself, trying to do something good with his life, missing his daughter, BUT also for me a softie and letting the women do with him what they all wanted. And, to be totally honest, I have missed the chemistry between the two of them in the whole, I haven't seen any sparks, nothing, null, nada. Where did the feeling come from? Did I miss something??? I have enjoyed the visits to the chefs very much, all of them were characters for themselves and they peppered the story a little. But in the whole, I had a feeling that the author tried too much and what we got in result is a fluffy, undemanding book with a simple storyline. This little drama on the beach, well, I'm sorry, but where did this come from? I didn't get the tension at all, the only what I did was shaking my head with disbelief. Altogether, this was a book with a feel - good factor but nothing that stay with you for long. Great for a holiday read. Copy received from publisher in exchange for a review.

Sugar and Spice is Angela Britnell's debut UK novel, having won ChocLit's Search for an American Star competition, and it is no wonder because you can tell that Angela is a very accomplished writer. Sugar and Spice is pure romance, almost from the very first page and it doesn't let up in the slightest until you have absorbed the very last word. I also loved Kenan's relationship with Mandy, and my heart went out to him when I learnt the circumstances under which he hadn't been in her life for a number of years. If I had to complain about anything, it would be this: Lily was in the UK to find chefs to take part in her new American TV show, Celebrity Chef Swap (I really can imagine this show gracing our screens) but, in my opinion, we don't see enough of this element. Her journey to find the chefs is just too simple, and they are all a little too agreeable, although I really liked the different characters. I just would have liked to have seen a bit more of them and for there to have been a little more drama from this element, rather than all the drama being romanced based. Although having said that, there is also Patrick O'Brien to consider; ex-fiancé and producer, he is a force to be reckoned with. Ultimately, Sugar and Spice is just that - sweet Kenan has met his match when he lays eyes on Spicy (and sultry, and sexy by all accounts) Luscious Lily. But can they find the perfect recipe to cook up their happy ever after? Thank you, as always, to the ChocLit team for a copy of Sugar and Spice in return for an honest review. If you're looking for a challenging read, this probably isn't the book for you, but if you are a fan of good old chick lit, Sugar and Spice is out now, so you can grab yourself a copy and enjoy some Sugar and Spice, everything nice.

Betty, the woman she is staying with, recommends Kenan Rowse for the job. Kenan is an ex-soldier, having served in Afghanistan, but is now back and looking for work. He agrees to be Lily's driver, but the job is a lot more than he bargained for. There is a simmering attraction between the pair the whole time, despite them being complete opposites. He is the strong, silent type and Lily loves to talk. Lily is also a complete foodie and Kenan just sees it as fuel, which is a perception Lily is determined to change. At the base of his book there is a story about food and about love. The food descriptions are nice, but didn't really make me too hungry, but everything else I thought was really good. There are lovely descriptions of Cornish farms and cooking, including the Cornish Pasty! Both Lily and Kenan's exes appear, mainly to cause trouble, and to add to the drama of the book, as well as the will they get together or not vibe. I found this to be a largely enjoyable book, full of some incredibly sweet moments, and I think I fell just a little bit in love with Kenan.

This is another winning book by Angela Britnell. Sugar and Spice is fun, sassy and such a pleasure to read. Lily is such a vibrant character in contrast to Kenan's stoic charm. I loved all the romantic tension, while Kenan tried to maintain his prickly exterior. The story of Lilly, the capable southern American chef and Jago, the quiet ex-military dad, who became her driver / assistant, was a fun read. The characters took off right from the get go with their desires dominating. The introduction of his daughter Mandy was sweet. A rather irritating book with a neanderthal hero and a too girly heroine. The writing's not great, although I had lined it up to be a 3-star read, mainly for being such a good idea for a novel, until the totally ridiculous scene of violent threat in the restaurant between Lily and her ex. Um, no, just no - no woman would leave with a man who did that to her, certainly not in a public place where she could so easily call for help!
