Just going to lay this out there, take it how you want, but Hope is one hell of an author. She is scribbling out stories of teenagers in all their angst glory. I fell in love with Hope's writing and storytelling with her book, TWISTED, not long ago. Couldn't get that story or those characters out of my head. I immediately took to Facebook spouting to anyone and everyone that they should read this book. Not only was it intense it was emotion as well. So very emotional. With this story, I expected it not to be as intense and emotional and I was right. The sort of drama I found in TWISTED wasn't in this one, but it was still such an amazing read. Now, I am not saying the intensity wasn’t there, it just slid in on the backside of the story, where it could really pack a punch. The book ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger but it ends well. You don't feel jipped for plowing through the book not to get a decent ending. But I can promise you that readers will definitely be looking forward to SECRETS AND LIES. I love the relationship Seth and Harper shared. Both grew up being each other’s best friend and both were secretly in love with each other. Yes, even at the tender age of 14 the feelings of love were there. I am just thankful the author went about that part in a way that didn't feel like she had to cram the young love down our throat as to get her point across, like I have seen done before. She knew exactly what to give us and make it seem real. But fate being the cruel heartless wantch she is, stepped in. Harper had to move away to Florida with her newly divorced mom...away from her dad and brother, away from her friends, and more importantly, away from Seth. Moving away tore Harper up but it tore Seth up as well. His life started spiraling out of control soon after. But that is his story to tell. So you are just going to have to read it to know him and understand what went wrong. Like I mentioned earlier, Hope is a genius of a story teller. She has a way of pulling you smack dab into the story and holding your interest hostage up until the very end. I couldn't walk away from this book any long period of time. It beckoned me to come back and finish what I started, and so I did. Quickly! Pick up this story and you'll find you won't be able to resist its charms either.

Let's talk about the new Amity Hope book!! What I liked: Amity Hope has a a great writing style. It never too descriptive that I know ever single color of the walls in the room, but it's enough to know that when there is pain and/or hurt, I want to cry! And I want to tell you everything, but I'm not going to spoil it for you. HOWEVER, I will say this....keep reading!!! The hold/pull/life line that those two have on each other, is truly a beautiful story. It's not ALL kissy, kissy, mushy, mushy..that you just want to gag from it! Amity is too amazing for that! So, don't think that going into this story. Through some of it I forgot they were teenagers! What I didn't like: As much as I love Amity, I think she might have been close to a deadline. Because the last couple chapters, I felt to be a little face-paced. NOW, I don't know if she meant to do that BECAUSE we are left with a cliffhanger, so it may have been intentional. But, that is the only true dislike I had with it!! I would RECOMMEND this BIG TIME!!

I adored this book. I love friends to couples books and this book starts out when Seth and Harper are fourteen and they share their first kiss the night before Harper moves away…. “That didn’t count.” Though I couldn’t make out his features, I could imagine how he looked. His head was cocked slightly to the side, eyebrows furrowed, possibly biting on his bottom lip for just a second. “What do you mean it didn’t count?” I hesitated, almost losing my nerve. “It was my dare. I was supposed to kiss you. You kissed me. It didn’t count.” He moved closer again and his hands slid around my waist this time. “So then what?” I leaned into him, my hands sliding up until they were resting on his chest. “Then…this.” Fast forward two years and Harper is returning to her childhood home. She’s able to rekindle her friendships with her two best friends Alyssa and Gabby. Rekindling her friendship with Seth isn’t quite so easy but they get their eventually. As with all of this author’s books, I really enjoyed the secondary characters. They really come to life. I really enjoyed reading Seth and Harper’s story as it unfolded. The relationship they share is very sweet. They’ve been friends and neighbors nearly their whole lives so there is a lot of history there. They are friends first, before anything else. “I saw you just about every day for…what? Ten years? You were this constant in my life and then you were just gone. There was no way I could not think about you. You know?” I nodded because I knew exactly what he meant. Overall, the storyline was different from what I’ve been reading lately. I wouldn’t consider the ending a cliffhanger, but it does lead into reading the second book. Of course I had to purchase Secrets and Lies immediately and I enjoyed that immensely also.

Yeah, so ... Horrible, true story, in which: my weekend was plagued by "one-star" lows. I actually missed out on valuable study time for this! Grr. The description blurb was way more exciting than what actually happened. And, for a book that supposedly dealt with abuse, the impact was weak. Look, if the focus of the story is romance, then that should be the focus. NOT secondary story lines that touches upon heavy issues that get swiped under the rug, and overshadowed by awkward, glum romance. The Yeah, so ... NOT secondary story lines that touches upon heavy issues that get swiped under the rug, and overshadowed by awkward, glum romance. There should have been some kind of balance b/w the two, maybe. But it just didn't feel right. Seth and Harper were best friends, then after sharing a kiss induced by a dare, they're almost sweethearts. Alas, Harper moves away with her mother to Florida, and young love is at a standstill. But then surprise, surprise. Harper moves back to her hometown, is reunited with Seth, only to find out his horrible secret. I was actually somewhat OK with the story up till this point. What happens AFTER was just ludicrous. It was so left-field, and dramatic, like something you'd see in a soap opera. Cue obligatory eye roll. I'm all for drama, but it has to make sense. I guess I was expecting a bit more on the romance part, and obviously, Seth's secret was not even really a secret from the beginning. It was always kind of obvious. Then, the way everything happened? Ugh. Give me more dialogue, more spark, more terror, more conflict among the characters and then maybe this book would have had a chance.

Truths and Dares is one of those books that made me feel something. Now many books will make me laugh or surprise me, but only a handful will make me feel the despair and emotions of characters. At first I didn't like Harper. I felt she was a bit self centred and me, me, me. She didn't seem to get that her friends may have moved on when she moved back home and it grated on me a little that she was that self centred. That was until Seth showed up in the book and then my opinion changed. I loved the chemistry between Harper and Seth and how although the story was told from Harpers point of view, we got things from the way Amity had wrote Seth's actions. I wasn't completely surprised by some things that happened in this book. It is a little dark in places and we are told little yet our minds will conjure up the rest leaving you thinking and feeling the despair. This is book 1 of 2 books I believe and can I say that I really liked how things were left and it ended. I know for many this will annoy them but I like a book that feels like reality, not everything is pretty and there isn't always a rainbow at the end. This gave the book realism for me. I literally read this book in less than 24 hours and recommend it to those who like the New Adult genre, especially a good romance with some angst. 4 out of 5 stars from me. I really enjoyed Twisted so I didn't hesitate to pick this book up when I found out it was by the same author. I have to say I enjoyed Twisted more. The synopsis sounded interesting and I love me some childhood love stories. Unfortunately it just didn't deliver what I had hoped. The characters weren't well developed and frankly I found them boring. I just didn't feel emotionally connected to the characters or the romance. I felt really sad for Seth and the secret he held for so long and normally it makes me cry but not this time. I've read so many other books with the same topic and I just don't think this was as well written. I thought this book was longer than it had to be and it kinda dragged for me. I'm a little disappointed and still debating if I would read the next one.

My first read of 2015 and I think I'm off to a good start. I highly enjoyed Truths and Dares. Seth is the kind of guy who thinks of others before himself. I don't think I'll be adding him to my long list of book boyfriends though. I didn't find him appealing but I did feel for him. Who knows, I might change my mind. No way could this be the end for Seth and Harper so I'll go ahead and read the next book now.

This was a good, albeit sad, YA book. I liked the fact that most of the teenagers in the book were pretty normal. No manwhores, no painfully awkward yet gorgeous girls, no excessively beautiful people who strike everyone around them mute by their beauty. They seemed pretty relatable. I liked that Harper had a shaky relationship with her dad, but was willing to work on it, and her dad was a major presence in her life. Even though surrounded with people who cared about him, his feelings of helplessness felt believable. This is the first book of two, so hopefully the questions I still have will be answered.

I came through almost 60% of this book and I realized, I read a lot of pages and it's not going to get any better for me. The characters were flat and had some cheesy stereotype behavior ( Harper"s mom), her friends, Seth. I was skipping a lot. Me and this book were not meant to be. My only complaint is that toward the end, things start to feel a little rushed. Overall it's a great read. The somewhat cliffhanger (I guess it's more of an unresolved ending) is a killer SO I'm definitely reading book 2 when it comes out.

Raw, emotional drama. But I just couldn't get past the use of the phrase "take with." I get it, it's slang, but the use of it outside of dialogue was quite juvenile. Abuse is never easy to read about. I felt utterly sick about Seth's abuse at the hands of his father. What I don't understand why the victim always hides the abuse. Book is well written, characters are typically 17/18 year olds. Harpers character is wise beyond words but why she kept quiet? Again another book that just ends abruptly, I was up in the air usually there is some foreshadowing giving the reader knowledge of a sequel, however if didn't read the appendix I wouldn't have known there was Abuse is never easy to read about. I loved this book!!! I loved the relationship between Harper and Seth, but the ending was so sad and I felt so bad for Seth and all he has had to go through from his dad. I cannot wait to read the 2nd book! It was a very easy read, that will engage/capture the reader.
