From the recorded History of the Israelites, God’s chosen people, we learn that they often rebelled against the Commandments of the Lord and found themselves in a backslidden condition.         Christians, in this Dispensation of Grace, also continue to face the challenging task of living a righteous life before God and man. They too, have also fallen into backsliding some From the recorded History of the Israelites, God’s chosen people, we learn that they often rebelled against the Commandments of the Lord and found themselves in a backslidden condition.         Christians, in this Dispensation of Grace, also continue to face the challenging task of living a righteous life before God and man. They too, have also fallen into backsliding sometimes. However, when confronted with the error of their ways, like the Israelites, of the Old Testament, they repented, asked God to forgive them and help them to start over.      Ventress Chandler-Latham, the author of Stepping Stones to Victory, has preached in many different congregations and has had first-hand experience with Christians who have sometimes fallen away from the faith.  She has counseled with those who have come to the altar to seek reconciliation with the Lord. Sometimes she has had to reassure them that God, who is merciful, still loves them and is willing to forgive and embrace them again.      The sermons, that were preached, over the years of her ministry, have impacted different congregations but, having helped a small percentage of the world’s population, Ventress felt compelled to use some of the same sermons to reach more people. She was convinced that, the best way to do this would be to organize them into a book. Stepping Stones to Victory was divinely inspired.      Although each sermon, in the book, deals with a different topic, the golden thread that binds them, as one, is the theme of ‘Living Victoriously on the Christian Journey.’  With the lucidly written, sermons and poems, the author sets out to convince and reassure readers that, as serious followers of Christ Jesus, they can succeed at conscientiously maintaining their integrity. This can be done from the beginning to the end of their walk with the Lord.      The sermons, presented, are like stepping stones that are placed in a river. They act as a lighthouse to direct each person safely to his /her destination; it’s a crossing over from one side of the river to the next. To arrive safely, each person must carefully maneuver himself across the stones. He must keep moving. As he advances, he gains renewed strength and courage to maintain his momentum till the very end.       Stepping Stones to Victory will help readers keep their focus on accomplishing their goal. The author believes that, each Christian, will, at the end of the journey, declare, like the Apostle Paul, ‘I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course; I, have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but to all them also that love his appearing. (2 Timothy 4:7&8).       Being a follower of Christ does not mean that a person is perfect. God knows this. However, He expects Christians to stay on the path of righteousness, despite the, overwhelming pressure they sometimes experience from the world, the flesh and the Devil.       Victory is sweet! Who would not want to attain it? Finding it after defeat has been experienced, is even sweeter. In any arena, being a winner is very gratifying, especially when many challenges have been overcome before becoming triumphant. In Stepping Stones to Victory, the author helps readers to reach forth and grasp success.         It is her fervent prayer that each reader will be encouraged to persevere to the finish line in his or her walk of faith.
