I won a free copy of Joan Gregerson's "Tuning In to Inner Peace" through the GoodReads First Reads program. Imagine my surprise when the author threw in a free copy of "With Open Arms" too! This book is only 68 pages long, but every page is a blessing. The poems are about real life issues that we can all relate to - love, happiness, change, recovery, and letting go. There is even a section in the book where Joan gives her thoughts about each poem. There are several poems in this book that really resonate with me, but I think my favorite is "New Day". It's such a simple poem, but with such a powerful message. I want to recite it each time I wake to face a new day! Many thanks to Joan Gregerson for this wonderful book!

This is my new poetry book! It was such a treat to spend time writing new poetry, many about my life now in South Korea. I also included some favorites about Ghana (Mama Africa), the crazed faces of loving well or poorly (Quitting, Up Standing Citizen, and I Stand Before You). I also added a 15-page commentary section. Now that I started writing poetry again, new poems are rumbling about in my head! Where do poems come from? And where do they take us? And why? I have no clue! I received this book as a surprise bonus when I won a First-reads giveaway for "Tuning In To Inner Peace". Thanks so much! This is a thoughtful, fun little book of poetry that I really enjoyed. I especially liked the poems about the author's father. My dad is also deceased and I appreciate the spirit of remembering those "little things" to connect with who he was as a person instead of focusing on his passing. Great book of poetry!
