    Good take on the Punisher.

This one was somewhere between 3.75 to 4 stars, but I’m rounding it up (against the grain of my usual rounding down policy). I mean it’s obviously a comedy right? I need to judge it in that context. There are no deeper philosophies explored or character complexities revealed. The plot is very basic. The Punisher is going around murdering bad guys a la John Wick and now there are copycats popping up. The cast is comprised mostly of morons and killers (sometimes they overlap). I haven’t read Garth Ennis and I have a lot of his work in my queue (i.e. Preacher, Hellblazer, etc.), but I was a little surprised at how slapstick this was. My only familiarity with the Punisher was from the television series and this is a very different Frank Castle. I liked the show, but this version works too. It’s a quick and entertaining read, but it should be reviewed according to its peer group, action comedy, but not much more.

I really don't enjoy this author's work: He's obssessed with christian mithology (but in the wrong way? I don't know how to explain it but I don't like it... and I usually do: case in point The Sandman, Vol. 4: Season of Mists) and it's way too gory and sadistic. (I went to his profile and surprise, surprise, he's the creator of Preacher... no wonder I didn't want to watch more than a few minutes of that TV show... I guess I won't be reading that comic) I really don't enjoy this author's work: He's obssessed with christian mithology (but in the wrong way? Entertaining enough but excessively gratuitous and minanthropic. Neither of these are necessarily a problem, especially given the editorial claims that this is deliberate but the glee of the violence combined with the childish comic art style leads to suggest that this is aimed at immature readers. If they read this, they will stay this way! Nowhere near the thrill level of something like Assassin's Guild! Entertaining enough but excessively gratuitous and minanthropic. Good campy Punisher, no holds barreled. Some nice lines, a lot of deaths, but I don’t like Dillon’s stiffy drawings. Entertaining though.

I've never been a great Punisher fan, but I like the concept of a vigilante in a world of superheroes. More on this later. The book starts off with lots of gratuitous violence, but with little story. About a third of the way through I started to get interested. I liked the responses from the general public about what the Punisher is doing. I didn't like the responses, or lack thereof, of the rest of the superhero population of New York as the Punisher goes on a killing spree. I liked the responses from the general public about what the Punisher is doing. I didn't like the responses, or lack thereof, of the rest of the superhero population of New York as the Punisher goes on a killing spree. There is one notable exception, Daredevil, but his involvement is purely because of his, at this stage of his career, by-the-book justice system approach to crime fighting. In this book the Punisher wins their encounter supposedly forcing Daredevil to accept the Punisher's point of view. However, considering Daredevil's capabilities (long time Daredevil fan here) it was a very contrived and unconvincing situation, which I didn't buy. I also did not buy that Daredevil did not continue on the trail of the Punisher afterwards, and if there is one hero that it is very hard to hide from, it is Daredevil. I also don't understand where the Punisher was getting his intel from. This story occurs after he loses his support team, yet he seems to know and have everything he needs to do his job. For example, I do not understand how he knows about Daredevil's super senses, this is not common knowledge at the time, yet he uses this knowledge to get the better of Daredevil in a fight. I have rated this at four stars (should be 3 to 3.5) because of some interesting additional aspects of the story brought in towards the end of the book, which have me looking forward to the second part of this story. Not for fans of Daredevil ;-)

I like the darker Punisher stories a lot but please god stop hiring Steve Dillon for the art he has ruined so many good books. He has two types of look for the Characters including the women and they all have the same chin, hate his work so much! To be fair Garth Ennis is a God of writing the Punisher series.

I read this the first time round when it originally came out. Garth Ennis writes the Punisher like no-one else. He absolutely nails it, and his run on the Marvel Knights series is the definitive one for me. Not for the faint hearted, this is full of bad language and outrageous violence, this book really gets to the core of Frank Castle. Utterly brilliant!

Me sorprendió.

Ennis and Punisher? Count me in! To tell the truth - if you put Ennis and Punisher together, you know what to expect and those two words are enough for a review. An all out bloody massacre with guns, hands, pythons and polar bears.
