Needs a serious edit. Lots of grammar errors, missing or misused punctuation, odd sentence and dialogue structures and whole lot of inconsistencies made for a very stilted read. Even something as simple as using contractions more often would have made a difference. The dialogue felt formal, impersonal and flat. The little inconsistencies here and there also made it hard to get into the story and get a feel for the characters. They were silly (and easily fixed) mistakes too - like Reece being spelled Reese for a good part of one of the chapters. Or, (view spoiler)[Chapter 2 - "I taught myself how to play guitar when I was 14...learned the chords, then learned how to listen to them and how to strum and pic... ." versus Chapter 10 "The guitar has always been my favorite and I can thank Danny for teaching me how to play..." (hide spoiler)] See? Little things, things that have you questioning what you just read, trying to figure which one is right. Personally, this book had built up a lot of hype and anticipation that it didn't live up to. I came across it on Goodreads a while back. The story sounded interesting and it turned into a book I checked back on often. The release date was moved back a few times, the author's fb page kept saying soon, soon, soon. I really wanted to read this book. I really wanted to love this book. And I just didn't. Reece was hard to like. I think this mostly had to do with a lot of her past being brushed off with her refusing to/not remembering. She's attacked, and then it's 6 years later with no explanation of the in-between. This giant blank made it hard to have any compassion or empathy for her emotional outbursts and conflicting feelings. You're just suppose to accept her actions without any understanding of why. This giant blank in information made several parts in the story feel empty and unconvincing. (view spoiler)[Near the end when Reece finally figures out who Zane is, she railing at him, pouring her heart out about how she's done nothing but think of him, dream of him, search for him, love him for years. But this is really the first you learn about it. Other than thinking about "him" in passing a couple times in the story, you never know Reece has these thoughts and feeling about her savior. Zane too, telling her he's loved her since that night. The most you know is that he saved her, and he's in some type of friendship with Danny. There is nothing there to explain his feelings for Reece, just a giant blank. (hide spoiler)] Maybe it's something that will be explored and explained in the next book, but it was needed in this book to make these characters and their bonds seem real. Despite it all, I'll probably read the follow-up, it just won't be one I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for.

Both can see through Reece's facade, are not afraid to call her on her sh*t (especially Brent) and still stick with her no matter how many times she tried to push them away. The ending is such a cliffhanger and I'll probably read the sequel just to see how it will all pan out.

Ok so I am really excited to finally have read this book and I promised an honest review...i give it 4 stars. The beginning of the story was the gripping point in my opinion (it talks about a very true situation that can occure and does occure in real life...i like stories that have real life situations)...this is where we learn about Reece's father her relationship with her mother her friends Jodi and Adam and also what happens to her when she is 17. We also meet Danny (basically her adpoted father since her past away). We read about the attack and who the main person was that started it however there are no details about where she ends up and how and where Zane finds her etc. I know this will probably be explored in the next few books but feel soemthing else was needed to tie more of this together. The next thing we learn is 6 years later Reece is a bitch and has no friends and she is a student...I know she was writen that way for a reason, I mean who wouldn't be a total bitch if what happened to her happened to you but I still struggled with her character throughout the story. I know she is guarded for a reason but still I really wanted to slap her and possibly strangle her on multiple occasions. The fact that she lost Adam was not explained and she lost Jodi wasn't really explained either (again i am sure this will come up in the next books) but i think more detail of how those relationships fell apart could have been used. Also the fact that Zane was there for her in the hospital would have helped tie together some of the reason's he felt so connected to her and she felt so connected to him. I believe towards the end we saw Reece grow to trusting more poeple which is a plus but we didn't really see her relationship grow with Brent as much as I would have liked...she talked about how they became BFF's but you didn't see much of how that came to be. You could see here and there her relationship grow with Zane and Jon I am just not sure where to put him at the moment. I know there were alot of characters introduced in this book and we will continue to see them in the next 2 books but I think the story could have been longer to explain more of the details like some of what happened in that 6 year gap...why she never went back to Danny's bar (since he is supposed to be her father figure..did they keep intouch over the 6 years etc.)...how her relationship with Danny was effected after that...why she doesn't or chooses to not remember (did they ever catch the group of guys etc.)...just little things that could help us understand why she is the way she is in the present. I thought the ending was very fitting for the story to keep you looking forward to book 2...we now know who Zane is to her and vise versa and we know they have a lot to work out between them. We know she is capable of opening up to people ie. Brent and she over comes a fear (performing on stage siging). I look forward to book 2 and 3 to see what happens and where Reece takes her new relationships and how she deals with her old ones.

I really wanted to like this book. I really did. This book had potential to be very good, but it really fell flat. The plot really caught my attention when I read it on Amazon, but the book just did not deliver. Too much time was focused on Reece pushing everyone away and not enough time focused on helping her heal. The book talked about how she couldn't have sex because of her experience, but contradicted itself later on. It also never said what happened with Adam. It jumped from present tense to past tense and there were a lot of grammatical errors. I usually overlook the grammar, but the jumping from tense to tense was too much.

One over the top angry female that acts male like. I like feisty women but this one was more than that. She was "gang raped" left by the boy she though would love her forever and went onto have massive anger issues. Hard to read at times and struggled to finish it but I did eventually. I have wanted to read this since I heard about it and finally got around to it. I also must admit that the muse/cover model did catch my attention also but the story is really what I wanted to know more about. It was emotional that's for sure and when you say roller coaster of emotions this book could be the definition of it with the happy, scared, sad, loved, and all over again. Reece was easy for me to relate to and although at times I wanted to slap her because she would not make up her mind I have wanted to read this since I heard about it and finally got around to it. Reece was easy for me to relate to and although at times I wanted to slap her because she would not make up her mind about who she wanted but I have known people like that so it kind of made her more real. Reece has had so much pain in her life you just hoped for her happy ending and she kept pushing it away. Brent was a perfect "best friend" if she would just open up to him I think they could have a great friendship. I don't know what it is about the Jon character but I just didn't like him but he gave Reece an excuse to keep pulling away from Zane. Awww Zane! Now he is a man I could fall in love with (if I weren't married) he is a great book boyfriend. Sweet, sexy, charming, GORGEOUS and from the description of his southern voice I was melting in a puddle on the floor for him. I was rooting for him from the second he walked in to the story. The way Alexis described the characters and their feelings was great and really pulled you in BUT.....(yep but) there were a lot of mistakes which took away from it. I hate when you have a great book but then so many mistakes it takes away from the flow of reading. I can over look little things here and there because no one is perfect but when you have whole paragraphs that repeat and several sentences that repeat it makes it a little hard and sometimes confusing to read. I really did love the story and my only advice would be to get a beta reader or someone to do a read through to help find mistakes because without the mistakes this would be amazing and I would have given the 5th star. I can't wait to see what happens next.

This was a beautiful story about a girl named Reese who was already struggling with some tragedy from the past. This will be the book for you just give it a shot :) ♥ I did and I am extremely pleased I did!!

Sterling her first trainer blew it when he showed his not so nice side. Then there is Jon and Zane. What ever is Reece going with Jon, will she ever let her walls down with him? And then I am wondering why Zane just walks away when he feels the same way she does and he wants to protect her and she has let her walls down with him. Will Reece get an explanation from Zane? I guess we will have to wait to see in the next book. Check it out!

Loved this book, Reece Miller story starts out with her being a 17 year old who is full of life, spark and has big dreams for her future. Something tragic happens to her one night that changes who she is. Reece becomes withdrawn and builds this wall around herself. Zane Bauer comes to Reece's rescue more than once and he stirs feelings in her that she hasn't had in a long time, there is also something about Zane that is familiar but she's not sure what that is. Then the tragedy happened and everything went downhill from there. No explanation was given for Adam and where he went or what he said to here we then see Reece or Reese (inconsistency in the spelling of her name even) in school for that one chapter and then we never see the school setting again. Jodi, her best friend, also disappears not long after. From there, it's all about her feeling horny about 3 different guys. It's as though the author came up with three different scenarios for her redemption, couldn't decide on which one, and decided to dump all three together in this one book. Each of the male characters could have been good on their own different book but all here of them together was just so wrong. For someone like Reece with PTSD from an attack like this, there's no way she's just let any guy feel her up and kiss her like this. Inconsistency yet again and the characterization was shit, really. The dark, brooding Zane from the first few chapters suddenly becomes a horn dog at the end and rushes in for the sex and then suddenly we are thrown at the end where Reece finally realised who he is. Her reaction and reason for being pissed was so lame I was practically rolling my eyes. I'm sorry to say but I was really disappointed with this book from about 1/3 in. That is an understatement.

Reece Miller is one bad ass chick, can't nobody break through her hard shell, or so she thinks. After one tragic night Reece has shut everyone out and closed her self off. If I had one suggestion for the author for this book that would be to maybe have it reedited, I did see some grammar errors that could hurt the author in the long run, although they were not to the point that they deterred or ruined the main idea of the story. I really enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to everyone.

Reece is beautiful IMHO. She has the class of The Great Gatsby, and the wits of the old wizard from Willow. I personally loved the sword fight scene with all of the post-apocalyptic anti-American union people. I'm not sure I have ever read about so many decapitations in one book. When she buys the Mogwai from the sooth Sayer in New York city, I knew she wouldn't follow the rules, and guess what? It spawned evil Mogwai that turned into hideous Gremlins, which she then decapitated. Over-all, outst Reece is beautiful IMHO. Purchased this from Amazon, gambled on there being editing improvements since last reviewed. Cracked up at "Closter phobic" and "stubble backwards" and I'm less than 50% through. Gotta say the author needs to learn how and when to use an apostrophe. And I'm suffering homonym hell. Story is intriguing enough, I'll probably finish, but I'm not anxious to continue the series unless the author learns punctuation and grammar along with how to use a dictionary.
