An interesting departure from her previous historical and fantasy books, this story is a modern day urban fantasy. When returning home from work in the middle of the night after being fired from her job, Amber Kemp is met by her cousin, Smoke who informs her that her Witch Aunt Lucinda DeGoode has disappeared. It is now time for her to step forward and hold up the family covenant on the farm in the Poconos called Five Corners. I enjoyed the book and the characters interesting; some were quite reprehensible. The only thing I didn't like was the book title which, though part of the book, didn't really reflect the book's character. I look forward to seeing the future installments in these folks' lives.

This was my first time reading DL Carter on the recommendation of mutual friends. I would give this 3.5 stars. I did enjoy the premise of the story. It started out a bit slow for me, but picked up about a quarter of the way through and made me glad I had stuck with the book. I liked it enough I went to see when the sequel was being published (couldn't find the info, but am now following her public Facebook) and I don't do that for every book. D.L.

What a delightfully fun read. Humor runs rampant starting with the title and throughout this quirky tale. Amber Kemp has rebelled against both sides of her heritage - her father is a science teacher and her mother is a former witch – by becoming a computer dweeb. She receives magical messages like “First Destroy All Giant Monsters” that don’t exactly inspire this almost untrained witch to do her best. I adore this story. I’d like to thank the author for giving me a chance to read and review it. I had to ask I mean the title alone reminds me of 50’s B movies. The humor is often wry and tongue in cheek but always there. Fans of Kevin Hearne and Kim Harrison will love this book. I can hardly wait for the further adventures of…

Fun E book. Lots of typos, but overall a fast paced paranormal romance. Karl is consistently irritating, but behavior is explainable. Amber seems to know a lot about magic while claiming not to know a lot. In Charmed and in Supernatural they always seem to have to check books for spells while Amber seems to just know them, but hey it's okay to change things up. Fun E book. Interesting premise The author takes on a tricky story, using very powerful good magic against a previously unknown evil. There are limitations on everything just to make it more interesting. The characters grow on you and one hopes they will be developed in the sequels.

I'll be upfront: I didn't finish this book. Although it's right up the alley of books I usually love, I wasn't enjoying reading it and didn't empathize with any of the characters. I've read other DL Carter books and loved them, but this one wasn't for me. I'll be upfront: I didn't finish this book. This is a fun book and is first in a new series. I love the name of the series- The World Wide Witches Research Association and Pinochle Club. Borderline amazing, right there. This book has good world building and unique approaches to witchcraft. The author has great sense of humor that is apparent and often cleverly turns a phrase. This is the story of Amber, forced to return to the magical family farm after hiding out in New York and playing normal for several years. Her dwarf cousins return her to her magically sentient house to take over for her missing aunt- founding member of the WWWRAPC Lucinda. So Amber, after years of neglecting her training, is persuaded to begin the magical search for her missing aunt that starts with the clue 'First Destroy All Giant Monsters'. The thing I loved about this book is that you feel like you are diving right into another world where somebody knows everything that is going on, but that somebody is not you! I prefer books that hit the ground running and don't spend 5 years telling me, in baby steps, what is happening at every stage. This one certainly fits the bill! I feel like we got an excellent story with a lot of room to give us more back story while still moving forward. All in all, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of paranormal books and I will be buying books 2 and 3 as soon as I can get my hands on them!

Great read Interesting fast paced. For me it spoke to the energy I have used all my life that I have not considered. Now I am considering it and how to use it responsibly. Abuse focused me on fighting for my life. Now I see sixty-seven years later how that is destroying me. Balance is now my goal. I want to retain what I have gained by fighting what tried to destroy me. Now I see a larger picture. The trauma is gone. The habits and attitudes of being a fighter no longer dominate. This is the first book I have read by D.L. Carter and I have to say it did not disappoint. The witch and scientist part was a brilliant way to share the characters and I thought that the author wrote this brilliantly. It was well written and it kept me interested the entire book. I will definitely read another book by this author.

Although this book starts out a little rough around the edges, and the Kindle version has some typos, it turned out to be a really fun ride. If you like girl-power stories, where a smart--but not perfect--girl has to save a guy--not a stupid guy, but a guy who is in over his head and doesn't know it--this book is a good example of that genre. A solid 3.75 stars. Although this book starts out a little rough around the edges, and the Kindle version has some typos, it turned out to be a really fun ride. This was one of the first free downloads I ever picked up...and then I never looked at it again. That was clearly a mistake. This book is more fun than I thought it would be. It can be a bit wordy at times and, I'll be honest, the sexual scene felt a little out of place....but the story kept me engaged and reading. Fantastic! From the very first page, I knew I was in good hands. I was thoroughly enchanted with this world and with the cast of characters. This is a superb fantasy that has top notch writing, great world building and a fantastic plot. I have been wanting a truly well-written witch-themed book with an infusion of humor – and I’ve found it in this book!

One of my first reads of the mystical, and thoroughly enjoyed it. A blend of witches, spells, good vs evil, with romance thrown into boot. Recommended for teen and all the above.
