A collection of truly great essays. Between the bunch, there's enough nuance of opinion on the subject, but all leading to the same point: the drug war causes more harm than good. I have to admit, the subtitle: "And Adult Approach to Drug Policies in the 21st Century" was what caught my eye initially. Chapter after chapter, the stories told evoke the Vietnam war in note, pitch, and body count. The only thing holding this book back is the fairly casual tone. I only complain because this is a book that deserves to be lovingly highlighted and referenced!

One author was a DEA agent for 35 years, and his inside experience is powerful proof that the war on drugs is absurd as it is now conceived. And in a glorious display of gallantry, civility, and confidence, they let an ANTI-legalizer write a final chapter of a This is a collection of 12 essays by different authors, so it's a bit uneven and sometimes repetitive as the same points are made in several chapters. Interesting Quote: "Students of American history will someday wonder how today's lawmakers could readily admit that alcohol prohibition was a disastrous mistake but recklessly pursue a policy of drug prohibition...The time has come to put an end to this tragic revisit of Prohibition. The time has come for a tabula rasa for drug policy in America." -Timothy Lynch, After Prohibition Interesting Quote: "Students of American history will someday wonder how today's lawmakers could readily admit that alcohol prohibition was a disastrous mistake but recklessly pursue a policy of drug prohibition...The time has come to put an end to this tragic revisit of Prohibition.
