This was a really great and quick read. I wish I had read this when I was younger, I would have gotten a lot out of it. The story reminded me a lot of Oliver Twist and David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. This is a great classic and is a great read for kids because it has a great message. I love that everything is resolved at the end and everyone gets what they deserve.

There was a poor boy and a prince who switched places. The prince goes on adventures with a servant. The poor boy (now acting as prince) is making up laws and not thinking about the prince. The prince doesn't know the poor boy is impersonating him. I liked the book because it is fun to imagine switching places with someone. I like that they were helping each other. It is fun to see how much things changed for them. The poor boy is used to picking up his shoes, but the servant did that for him. H There was a poor boy and a prince who switched places. I really liked this book and how it shows two perspectives. I think this benefited them both a lot and King Edward was really about to be a better king for his people and that Tom helped him get to that point and continue to get there.

Not Twain's finest, but not bad either. Full of great language, imaginative scenes, and apparently (based on the footnotes) chock-full of actual history.

It's a wonder how a boy from a poor and abusive home wouldn't let all the power he gained into his head and turn him into a tyrant; equally so with a boy from a rich and powerful home to not let his experiences as a poor beggar boy make him angry and vengeful after getting his power back. The 1500's were way brutal. Hangings, burning at the stake, being boiled alive! And alot of the time for such minor crimes! For a ruler of any kind to allow such horrendous things to happen is evil. I enjoyed this very quick read. It's a wonderful story. THIS PART HAS A SPOILER: I wasn't thoroughly happy with the ending. The part that bothered me most...there was no information about how or why the new king passed so apparently soon after his adventures as a pauper. I feel like the ending was rushed through without a thought of tying up loose ends. Did tom make amends with his mom after what he said to her? Did he keep his friends? His mom and sisters were found, but how? Were they with his father still? If so, how did the father escape and disappear? Who was the guy in the prison that got pardoned and what did he do? Did he thank the "new king" for his pardon? What about punishment for what Hugo had done to him? This is a children's book so maybe a kid wont need as much information? I would have liked more but I still recommend it.

Another excellent adaptation for kids. Ms. Bogart kept the important points from the original tale and presented them without having to talk down to kids or the parents who read the book to their kids. If you have never read one the GIC books, you really should. They are a great way to bring the classics to kids and there are always a few on the shelves at your favorite used book store to try out first if you aren't sure about them. Find them for your sons, daughter, nieces and nephews! Buy them! Another excellent adaptation for kids. *3.5* I liked this book. It was fun, cool and quick. Since it is in a Specially Adapted Version of The Prince and The Pauper by the amazing Mark Twain (i have not read the original) it felt like it was missing stuff and not to mention its was short book with Pictures! Anyways the characters were cool and fun. The ending was satisfying and i always like a short book. and especially stories about how the past used to be

The book talks about a prince and a pauper that changed places because they looked alike and they changed clothes. The prince got taken care of by Miles Hendon in a wood cabin. The pauper was disguised as a prince. In the end the prince promised the pauper to be treated better. I like the book because there are some mysteries involved in the book.

Personal Response Personally, I really liked the book The Prince and the Pauper. I thought it was interesting that both boys were identical even though the grew up differently. Plot Summary The book is about two boys named Tom and Edward. One was a poor peasant boy and the other lived in luxury all his life. But, one day Edward invited Tom into his palace because he felt bad about how his guards treated him. The two were very interested in each other's lives because the two lived totally opposite lives. So, the two agreed to switch clothes and found out they looked almost identical. Then, Edward remembered how the guards treated Tom and left to go scold them. But, the Guards thought he was Tom and threw him out, which essentially switched both their lives. At first, the two both loved the others lives, but things became hectic. Edwards father died, and Tom’s dad kept causing trouble for Edward. So, when Tom was at the ceremony to become the king, Edward interrupted it and proved he was the real prince, by showing the royal council where the royal seal had been. Edward did not punish Tom for impersonating the king. He was worshiped like royalty and became the board chief of Christ's hospital which was a homeless shelter. And Edward ascended to the throne and became a great king. Recommendation I would recommend this to anyone from the age 10-16. I chose this because the book is not a very challenging book to read, but it is such a good book that I think should allow a bit older kids to be able to read. I also think that if you are over the age of 16 you should probably read a different or the original version of the book.

The message of this book was to not to mistreat or look down on others. The main characters are Tom Canty, Edward Tudor " The Prince of Wales", and Miles Hendon. Miles Hendon quickly becomes fond of Edwards " fantasizing of being the Prince of Wales", and comes to the conclusion that the boy is mad, but he still takes his "madness" as a form of love. The main idea of this book was to treat others the way you would like to be treated. Secondly, I the book tried to explain how you can be humbled in so many ways by "stepping in another persons shoes", who has a lot less than you do. I know this because when the Prince was disguised as Tom Canty he realized how much he had and how little Tom has. The reality of outside the royal palace to the prince left him awe struck of how people treat each other with no respect. This is why I think the theme of the book is to not mistreat or look down on others.

I think this book is strange, sad, and happy. This book is about two boys, one whose father is the king of England (his son is called Edward), but the other boy's family is very poor. I like this story a lot because it`s fun and wild. I learned that if you treat people with kindness you will be happy.

The character that I chose to write about is Tom Canty from "The Prince and the Pauper." Tom is a villager whose family is very poor. He is always punished for no reason by his cold-hearted dad & grandmother. I would describe Tom as kind and curious. He is always wandering around & discovering new things. So one day he is wandering around and he stumbles upon the palace gates. The prince sees him and invites him into the castle. I find this book very interesting indeed. Mark Twain has written one of the greatest literary works throughout the world. I like the main characters who decide to change their places in the world just to know what it's like, although they have some different characters and similarities between the films and the book. Then again, this one reaches the highest peak of studiousity, along with "Tom Sawyer", that is.

On a cold winter day in the 1500's two boys were born. One was the kings son and the other was the paupers son. The prince was treated as if he was a god from the heavens but, the pauper was treated as if he was a piece of dirt. One day they met and the prince invited the pauper into the castle. They looked in the mirror and saw that they looked at each other and then decided to switch places.Who knows how much trouble they get into. This book was amazing and I loved it.

This is one of the first books I've ever read when I was young. It's probably one of the reasons why I loved reading. It's about a prince and a pauper who looked identical to each other. They decide to switch lives, each one thinking that by doing so they would be happier. And that's when the adventure begins. I remember, as a child, how much I loved that book, and writing this review brought it all back to me. Highly recommend children to read this book.

Read with Katie & Jane. We started with the "real" version, and it took a lot of explaining. Then we switched to this version. Great book, but I need a version in between the two. It was written a while ago, but being a children's book it is still quite easy to read. It is a bit dark for a children's book nowadays when people don't get punished as severely for crimes as petty as they did in that period, but not too dark to handle. I cannot handle how great Miles is!
