Good book for elementary aged kids. Teaches science without feeling educational.

This is a nice, informative graphic novel that I will most definitely recommend to children who are looking to learn about solar/total eclipses the next time one rolls around!

Positives/Cautions: This book provides factual information to students about astronomy. There are several examples of real constellations and the text explains the meaning behind the name and origin. The storyline throughout the book is targeted at older students, one of the characters has a "boyfriend". I would caution primary teachers before letting students read this book. Audience: Primary grades 2+ Applications: This book would tie in very well to any astronomy or space unit. Audience: Primary grades 2+ Applications: This book would tie in very well to any astronomy or space unit. There are several facts in the book about constellations, the sun, planets, etc. The students would be able to easily find the factual information in the side paragraphs that explain and define content in the text. A great application to this book would to be to read it whole group/small group and have the students create a small comic of their own using the planets as characters. The idea of a graphic novel science mystery about astronomy was exciting and held promise for an upcoming unit. But this book was disappointing. It did use riddles to convey basic fact about space, but the weak storyline of kids at summer camp fell flat. One girl flirts with her " boyfriend" and teams competing to solve the riddles first "cheat" along the way by overhearing the answers. The story doesn't match the audience that would enjoy the riddles, and gets in the way of interesting astronom The idea of a graphic novel science mystery about astronomy was exciting and held promise for an upcoming unit.
