Their attraction is immediate and intense. When Penélope's body is discovered in a nearby park, Tobias is devastated-and then terrified. The police accuse him of murder, and his face is plastered on every news outlet in the city. If that's not bad enough, it turns out that Penélope was romantically involved with Antonio Cabrera, the volatile heir of a dangerous Central American drug cartel. Now the family wants revenge, as well as something valuable that Penélope may have left with an unsuspecting Tobias. Everyone shoots to kill, and Tobias is caught in the crossfire as New York City explodes into terrifying violence. The only person he can trust is Annabel, a woman as lethal as she is beautiful. But with this many enemies, even her impressive firepower may not be enough. As the bodies pile up, Tobias has just one card left up his sleeve. Although he's sworn he would never use it, he might not have a choice.

(I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads Giveaways). (This review may contain spoilers). The first thing I want to say is that this book was quite well-written. The problem was, I personally couldn't emphasise with the characters. I found a lot of contradictions in how people acted and I felt that there were far too many characters - I couldn't keep track of all of them inside my head. I also found very few of the characters truly likable. To be honest, if I hadn't won this (I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads Giveaways). I also found very few of the characters truly likable. To be honest, if I hadn't won this book, I probably would have stopped reading before I got to the end. I did find the ending something of a let-down. I know that it was the first book in a trilogy, but I still found that it fizzled out. Plus, although I could guess what had happened with Penelope's death, it wasn't explained well enough or given enough foreshadowing throughout the book. I have to say, I was slightly amused by how many times different women characters were described as having large breasts. One noticeable example is when a woman is holding a gun at one character and he notices her long dark hair... and large bust. I doubt very much that someone is going to be looking at a woman's breasts while said woman has a gun on them... just as I doubt that large breasts pushing against someone's face will cause arousal rather than difficulty breathing. As I said before, this book might just not be to my personal taste. Tom the police officer was an interesting, layered character. The rest seemed kind of... well. I really don't think a police officer would say to someone grieving the death of a friend, "Don't lie to me, young lady," even if he did think she was lying. I think the book would have been much better if it had stuck to just one or two POVs and contained more foreshadowing.

Having received this book as a Goodreads giveaway, I was excited to read it. However, I was greatly disappointed. I forced myself to finish reading it, only because I felt an obligation due to receiving it as part of the giveaway. In a failed attempt at character development, Amazon provides various characters with a back story/side story that didn't contribute to the plot. I liken reading this book to watching a bad crime movie, complete with poor characters, unrealistic public violence and horrible dialogue. More creativity should have been used in developing the characters. Did EVERY female character have to be "large-breasted". Actually, I am exaggerating. He only described 5 of the female characters as having large breasts. Seriously? Then insert the stock characters: low level mobster with the wife/girlfriend who wants him to leave "the life"; law enforcement agent with an ex-wife and a narcotic/alcohol problem; corrupt high-level law enforcement officer; I was unable to empathize with any of the characters. I just could not care about any of them. There are several points in the book, where the story moves really slowly. The plot twists that the author goes for, just didn't work for me. There was no shock. This book was incredibly painful to read. I really did want to find something good about this novel, but I could not. I think Marvin Amazon had a good idea, but was unable to execute it successfully.

This book is intense! The plot is very enticing and I find it hard to put this book down. I even brought it with me to read while I get my nails done. I thought at first if it’s going to be like “The Sopranos” but it’s much more. Such a gripping suspense novel, so many twists that I did not see coming. No one can trust anyone in this book. New York playboy Tobias Mead's instant attraction to a beautiful stranger while out at a club one night will prove to be the biggest mistake of his life after she is found dead in a local park the very next day. It doesn't take long for police to find out that he very well may have been the last person to see Penelope alive... unless of course you count her Mobster boyfriend Antonio. Of course, since Antonio has a number of police officers in his pocket, no one really does seriously count him as New York playboy Tobias Mead's instant attraction to a beautiful stranger while out at a club one night will prove to be the biggest mistake of his life after she is found dead in a local park the very next day. It doesn't take long for police to find out that he very well may have been the last person to see Penelope alive... unless of course you count her Mobster boyfriend Antonio. Of course, since Antonio has a number of police officers in his pocket, no one really does seriously count him as a suspect. Perhaps more seriously for Tobias is the fact that he is now in possession of something Penelope obviously wanted him to keep safe - a video recording that would keep a dangerous criminal (the head of the Dominguez Organization), off the streets permanently - which makes him a target for not only the NYPD, but the FBI and the Dominguez Organization as well. This leaves the question, who can Tobias trust? Especially when he is keeping secrets of his own? My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars The Kiss After Midnight is well written and immediately engaging, with intriguing characters, and flawlessly written story-lines. I received a copy of this book (in exchange for my honest review) and finished it two days later as I could not put it down simply due to the fact that I HAD to know what was going to happen next. It starts off strong and keeps going right up until the very (shocking) end. Full of unexpected plot twists, The Kiss After Midnight, keeps you guessing until the very end. Even I have to admit, I did not see 85% of this book coming, and that made it all the more enjoyable. Even when it seemed overly complicated, and you started to wonder how anyone could make sense of it all, Mr.Amazon not only managed to, but he manged to do it in a way that made you sit back andwonder how you missed all the connections in the first place. All of his characters are extremely well written, and possess so much depth to them that they become more than just words on a page. They become real people.People who love and hate; people who would stop at nothing to get what they wanted (up to an including murder). There is an ever present element of betrayal in this book, and you begin to wonder (for a good reason) if anyone really trusts anyone else inexplicably. Thankfully, all your questions are answered at the end. The ONE downside I have to this novel is the fact that I have to wait until the FALL of 2013 for the next installment (tentatively titled The Midnight Catastrophe). DISCLAIMER: I received an advanced copy of The Kiss After Midnight in exchange for my honest review. This has not reflected on my review in any way.

I won this book through good reads first reads. The story line itself was good and full of suspense, but there was a few bits that I disliked. Alot of the names were similar and half the time I was confused as to who was who. There was quite alot of grammar, punctuation and spelling errors. Also there was a few statements that contradicted the previous sentence. The end felt rushed, a good thing is I did not see the end coming apart from one small bit of it. Also there was no explantion as to wha I won this book through good reads first reads. The story line itself was good and full of suspense, but there was a few bits that I disliked. I received this book in a goodreads first reads giveaway. I liked all the plot twists in the book. I will have to read the 2nd book when it comes out as it will be interesting to see what happens after the end of this one. I would recommend it for my friends that like crime fiction/darker mysteries.

I got this book a long time ago so I don’t remember if it was free or not. When I finally started reading it I could not put it down. It was intense & action packed from start to finish. There were a lot of characters to keep up with & at times it was hard to keep them straight, but I kept on reading. Some of the characters were very hard to like because, well, they were horrible people (not because of the writing). I found myself rooting for certain characters & scared for other characters. The book starts off right away getting your attention and keeps you on your seat. A great thriller/mystery story about New York, the Mafia, and the drug world with a lot of twists and turns. It starts off with playboy, good looking Tobias Mead falling for Penelope and when she is found dead the next morning, nothing is ever the same for Tobias especially since he is the obvious suspect. The story follows Tobias and Annebelle as they try to stay ahead of everyone trying to catch up to them. It has The book starts off right away getting your attention and keeps you on your seat. (I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads Giveaways). The plot line sounded good and roped me into wanting to read it. As everyone has already said there are way too many characters! The ending is a complete twist and though I suspected something amiss about one of the characters, I was still surprised. ***won in a Goodreads giveaway*** Full of unexpected plot twists, non-stop action and it keeps you guessing through the whole book! Would like to read the follow up when it comes out. I did however find there to be too many characters to keep track of. Once I was almost finished reading the book, I found a chart at the end. It would have been nice to have had the chart at the beginning of the book to help keep track of the characters.

I received this book as a goodreads giveaway. I like the concept of the book, but there were so many characters that I couldn't keep them straight. I felt like I needed a chart to keep up with all of them. I liked the twist at the end, didn't see that coming. It was a good book, but not a relaxing read. Hard to sympathize with the main character because his actions contradicted how he was portrayed at the beginning of the book. I received this book as a goodreads giveaway.
