Mel was an okay character, but I did think she was tupid at times. It was good of her to help Rachel find her killer, as so many people had ignored her plea for help before, but she put herself in danger because of it so many times! Rachel really annoyed me at the start, but she got a bit better as the story progressed. This wasn't a bad read, but I'm glad it was only short. Overall, An alright read. This would be a good book if you didn't want to invest any time into your reading. The characters have no depth and background story does not exist. The author is telling a story and basically that is all you get. This would be a good book if you didn't want to invest any time into your reading. Rachel is super cool in all her ghostliness. The two make a great pair, who would not like having a friendly Ghost hanging around? Overall I found Sugar And Spice And Not So Nice very enjoyable and highly recommend to those who love a great cozy murder/mystery with a paranormal twist.

I jumped into this story with both feet. A ghostly good time. I really likes how the characters in this book come together as a whole. Strength and trust go a long way, and Mrs. McNulty bright all that and more. A normal girl next door turns sleuth. Sweet, funny, but tough as nails. If you don't love this book, then yo GIRL POWER!!! in the past year or so, I have dove into cozy mysteries. I am leaving this mostly to explain my rating. the story wasn't bad, and it did grab me, but It was over and done way too quick, and "read my other books" samples counted for about 50% of the Books volume. Yes I should have looked at the number of pages, I do tend to add cozies fast, as they are good fun to read, but, that said, I will be looking for more of Janet's books, careful to check length, this time. in the past year or so, I have dove into cozy mysteries. Great story no matter your age Loved the first adventure of Mellow Summers as she began her first year in college. Unlike most who begin college right after high school Mellow is a little older. There's nothing like finding an apartment near your college that you can afford. The apartment comes furnished, even with its own ghost. Come along on the adventure with Mellow and some interesting friends as she tries to help Rachael, the ghost, find who murdered her. This book was a complete surprise. First that it was published, second that it is a series (there are more!). Saying it is awful is putting it lightly. I checked and double-checked to see if this was a teen book. I could not find it listed as that. However, it is the stupidest book I have ever read. That includes books read to the kids at bedtime. Final analysis, don’t read.

Quick fun read. Starts a little predictable, but once you get into the story it becomes a light reading ghost murder mystery. I enjoyed it for a one day read during work when I was supposed to be doing something else. Hah! - Warning however that there is light violence for those with triggers.

Sugar and Spice and Not So Nice is a great short story. I really liked the main characters. I also liked the storyline and that it didn't venture off track. It got right into the action and solved the case. I will definitely read more by this author. Sugar and Spice and Not So Nice is a great short story. I really liked the main characters. Whodunit This story with Mellow was very good. There was one error in the beginning it correctly identified Murder She Wrote and Incorrectly identified Ghost Whisperer. That made me laugh a bit. I do think the story was played out well.

After Mellow returned home from school and finished eating the dinner Jackie had fixed, she cleaned up the dishes. When she turned around she met Rachel, the murdered girl's ghost. Before she could even react, there was a knock on the door. She opened the door and it was Greg standing there with a yummy looking Devil's Food cake. It turned out Greg lived right across the hall from her and Jackie. She took the cake and closed the door, not realizing Greg was asking her out. "Well that was wonderful," said Rachel. As she told me who she was, she also told me Greg was asking me out and I should go apologize to him. Not only was I talking to her as if she was a living, breathing person, she helped me get a date. "I have to get to work and I don't need your assistance in the shower. I'm not into that kinky stuff." Rachel glanced at my bare legs. "You might want to shave those hairy things before your date tonight," Rachel said. She quickly became a fixture in my life. She wanted help finding her killer. She led me to Zappy's because her best friend hangs out there and might have some information. While there a guy started bugging me. Rachel took care of him. She explained that you have to force guys like that to go away. When a biker guy began harassing me, I took care of him myself. Little did I realize he would become a friend. My mother always said that girls should be sugar and spice and everything nice. Rachel's philosophy was sugar and spice and not so nice. Jackie, a ghost named Rachel, Tiny and his biker gang and last but not least Greg with his squeezable butt. I read this book out of order. I had already read the other two before I found this one. I loved them all, but I'm going to do the reviews in the correct order. Mellow made me think of the Ghost Whisperer. I used to watch the TV show all the time. Janet McNulty even mentions it in one of her books. I fell in love with Mellow and all her friends. I found this book laugh-out-loud fun to read. It is light-hearted and a make-you-feel-good read. It's perfect for sitting around the pool or at the beach. Easy to read in one sitting, which I did. Sugar And Spice And Not So NiceJanet McNulty

But said murder victim, Rachel, lets them know what's up right away, lol. So Rachel asks Mel to help her find her killer and she agrees. But no one said it would be easy, because what ensues is a hilarious and equally dangerous adventure! And it was SO much fun! I love a good murder mystery and this one was pretty great! I loved the cast of characters... Mellow is awesome, if not a little too curious for her own good, Greg is oh-so sweet and such a romantic, Jackie is great too, and Rachel is a lot of fun and quite feisty. Greg's cousin Jack is so gullible and hilarious... I just had a lot of fun with these characters! Oh and don't get me started on the many hilarious events! I love a book that can make me laugh out loud! But there were also some serious situations connected to Rachel's murder. I could not believe those a**holes! Another thing I loved about this book is that even though our characters are in their mid-20s, the book is clean enough to be considered YA! You don't see many of those around! Anyway, this was a very fun, light-hearted read that was exactly what I needed! Highly recommend if you like murder mysteries and ghosts! (And you got nothing to lose! It's free! :D)

Mellow meets her neighbor, Greg, at school and finds out the Rachel was a film student as well. The landlord tells the girls that the rent is so cheap because the other tenants have all left in a hurry claiming that the apartment is haunted. One night, Mellow is startled to actually see Rachel. Rachel persuades mellow to help her bring her killer to justice. Things aren’t so easy though, because Rachel can’t remember anything that happened the night she died. As Mellow works to solve the mystery of Rachel’s death, Rachel slowly remembers bits and pieces of the night of her murder. With the help of her love interest- Greg, best friend – Jackie, Greg’s cousin at the police department, and a biker gang, can Mellow figure out who the killer is before she becomes the next victim? Sugar and Spice and Not So Nice is a fun book, and a quick read. The characters are likable and fun. Rachel gets Mellow into situations that she wouldn’t normally get into. Rachel teaches Mellow to stand up for herself – and after standing up to a biker gang, she earns their trust and makes an unlikely group of friends. Mellow moves to Vermont to change her life, and you can see her growing and changing through her experience of helping Rachel. Some parts of the story progressed a little fast, but overall, I really liked the book, and can’t wait to see if there is a second book.

I received this book from Library Thing to read and honestly review. This was a pretty good book. It was short. It was entertaining. I was humorous and sometimes funny. This story covers Mel’s task doing that—assisted by Rachel, the ghost, Jackie, her roommate/girlfriend from way back when, Gregg, her new boyfriend and neighbor in the complex, and Tiny, a motor cycle gang member who befriends Mel and, along with his gang, works in her behalf. The story, as I said, moves along quickly, but not too quickly. The characters are all very well done, as are the many scenes at Mel’s apartment, at school and elsewhere in the area. I found the story interesting almost from the start. My only complaint is that it all ended way too quickly for me. I wanted to continue along with Mel and the others, as they went about their daily lives. I think this makes a great series. The author has enough know-how not to make things too complicated or to add too many distractions and sub-plots, which allows for a good, clean storyline. I have not read other books by this author, but will not go looking for them. I always like to add authors to my repertoire of reading materials, and now have another. I recommend this to anyone liking or wanting a fast moving, but definitely interesting, story, who enjoys good cozy mysteries or who is looking for something short and sweet to provide some good entertaining reading.

Just happens that the apartment is haunted by the prior tenant Rachel who can't move on till her killer is found and her fiance cleared of her murder. At first Mel is the only one who can see Rachel and it doesn't take long before she promises to help solve the murder. Between juggling school, a job at the candle store, the sexy guy across the hall and a band of biker guys Mel has her hands full. It's a quick read only 117 pages but it goes really fast because the book sucks you in. The characters are well written for such a short book. Since it is a quick read this book kept me on my toes and kept me craving more from the start. It may be short but what it lacks in pages it makes up for in story. Janet McNulty does a great job of leaving you happy in the end which is something I enjoy in a book. A very entertaining short story. Highly recommend if your looking for a entertaining mystery that won't take you all day. Scene: "I think I'm a bad influence on you." said Rachel She smacked Reiss in the back of the head. "Well, you know what they say." I began. "Sugar and spice-" "And not so nice." finished Rachel We high fived each other. At this point I didn't care if people thought I was crazy or not as I slapped thin air.
