The best part of this book is that it's not like the other, hey, here's some tech that looks like it came from Star Trek, but that the author takes his time to talk not just about how the tech is developing (or not developing, as is sometimes the case) but what it could mean for us a species. He takes the idea that just because we can, doesn't mean we should. He's also really, really good at breaking down complex topics and explaining things like how warp drive and cloaking devices might work. I received a copy of this book through the giveaway program of Goodreads, and am I glad I was able to win this book. I have always been fascinated and absorbed by the world of Star Trek and the numerous other science fiction based world that Star Trek has been a world of. Many days and nights were spent in my youth dreaming of a possible world where we could achieve the fantastical feats that we have only seen in this fictional world. This book provided the gap between reality and fiction, discu I received a copy of this book through the giveaway program of Goodreads, and am I glad I was able to win this book. Many days and nights were spent in my youth dreaming of a possible world where we could achieve the fantastical feats that we have only seen in this fictional world. This book provided the gap between reality and fiction, discussing the possibilities and impossibilities of what we have witnessed in the decades of fantasy we have lived with. Truly a wonderful and fascinating read, it would do well in the hands of any and all Star Trek fans, not to mention the numerous science fiction fans who also imagined the "what if" world of our imagination. My thanks to Mr. McLachlan, it was an amazing book, and not one ounce of regret will be expressed from this reader in taking the time to read this book.
