Lori Foster and Erin McCarthy are always solid go-to authors for me, but Amy Garvey was a "new to me" author. I was surprised that I ended up liking her story the best! I thought "Luscious" by Lori Foster was cheesy and lacked substance. A hero named Lucious, nicknamed Luscious by his female tenants? Ugh. "It's About Time" by Erin McCarthy was marginally better. I normally don't like heroines like Trish - smooth, polished, brash, ballsy, almost snobby. I loved how she immediately fell for Caleb, despite his being a tall, muscular, construction worker (which was SO not her usual type). I thought, though, that McCarthy almost made him too wimpy... a guy like him has to be alpha all the way, not celibate for two years & then getting drunk the night his ex gets married. "Wish You Were Here" by Amy Garvey was the best of the three. I didn't quite get the whole reasoning behind Leo's secret-keeping. I don't normally like the "I'm giving you up because you are too good for me" scenerio, which is what this was. However, I really liked both Leo and Mackenzie and was happy with the way things worked out.

The first story by Lori Foster was okay. I would give it 3 stars. The second book by Erin McCarthy was great! What this was was a relationship story. Could they overcome his past and form a lasting union? I would give this 3 stars. I highly recommend this book (especially if you can get it from the library like I did) just for the Erin McCarthy story alone.

The second story was the best. Over the course of two of these types, I've realized I don't particularly like Lori Foster. Erin McCarthy's was the best of the three since it was painful getting through the third one. The second story was the best. Marci’s landlord and nextdoor neighbor, Lucius (all the girls in the building call him Luscious), is a SWAT guy who adopts an abused dog that needs Marci’s services. Lucius has been attracted to Bethany for months, but she’s wary because he knew Marci first. Lucius knows he’s in love with Bethany and decides to set out to break down those walls and convince her he’s the one for her. This had a lot of good things going for it. First, the hero falls for the heroine first and he’s not just about getting her into bed so that’s a plus for this story for sure. I also liked that there’s a little bit of a suspense plot that makes this story a bit more exciting, which is good since this one was low on relationship angst. Once Lucius wins Bethany, he’s won her (except for the 30 seconds of jealousy she feels when she sees Lucius hugging Marci). But Lucius totally deserved that bit of anger from Bethany since earlier in the story he was eyeing up Marci wearing a t-shirt and panties. He claimed it was totally fine to show sexual interest in her even though he wanted Bethany. I call bullshit. That’s just outright rude. Keep your eyes in your skull...especially when looking at the sister of the woman you love. I don’t care if they are identical. That’s just scummy behavior. But Lucius also displays some pretty honorable behavior in the way he treats his dog and at his determination to clear up the sure misunderstandings when he has identical twins snuggling up to him and he only loves one. The only other downside here is that it takes a matter of days for the marriage proposal. Granted, Lucius claims he’s been in love with Bethany for a while, but Bethany hasn’t been returning that sentiment, so for her it’s been a short time. And he’s asking for marriage that fast...Oy. The problem with novellas... It’s About Time - Erin McCarthy - 3.5/5 - Trish gets stood up by her date and heads off to the bar where she’s pushed off on Caleb, a huge, sexy man getting drunk in celebration of his ex-wife’s impending marriage. Trish feels sorry (and attracted) for the guy and decides to take care of him for the night. At first, she has no intention of sleeping with him, but after hours of conversation and lots of chemistry, she does. And come the morning, although she has serious doubts about her own ability to have a successful relationship, she really wants to see where things to with Caleb and he feels the same. Very cute story. I don’t typically care for this author’s style and humor, but this one was far mor understated and the humor not the centerpiece. So I ended up enjoying this one. I like that Trish is an in control kinda girl and that’s exactly what Caleb is looking for, since his ex-wife was needy and insecure. You do end up with a pretty beta kind of guy, which I don’t mind so much, but I know there’s lots out there that prefer alpha guys. I thought Caleb was a kind, respectful guy who appreciated Trish for the person she was. In that same vein though, there were moments where Caleb was practically uncomfortable in their sexual situation and feeling embarrassment, which didn’t feel right...especially when the heroine wants him to be doing something different and more or less takes over. Caleb doesn’t seem to mind, but it seemed like some sort of breach of etiquette...especially the first night out. Because for a moment, Caleb felt like an idiot because of the way she reacted. On a positive note though, this is pretty realistic, since I’d imagine one-night stand sex is rarely smooth and tension free (without alcohol anyway). Wish You Were Here - Amy Garvey - 3.5 /5 - Mackenzie has just inherited a house near the beach and intends to renovate the crumbling shed into a photography studio. So she hires loner and very attractive Leo Dawson. Neither of them intends to start a romance, but they just can’t seem to help themselves. Leo though is trying to keep secrets from Mackenzie. He doesn’t want her to know that he used to be a rockstar and an alcoholic and that his crazy ex-lifestyle got his best friend killed. He’s afraid she’ll see him differently and won’t want him anymore...but when she finds out, she’s more upset by the apparent lack of trust than anything else. Good story. It’s solid. While the angst of waiting for Mackenzie to find out about Leo’s former lifestyle was enough to keep me reading (as was the likeability of the characters in general), it didn’t really provide enough umph to make this memorable. For the most part I kept thinking that Leo’s fears were a bit much, but I didn’t feel like they were unbelievable or anything. And Mackenzie’s reaction to them was quite reasonable as well. Overall, this is a story of some mature, rational characters with a fairly steamy romance (though sans condoms or safety talk IIRC) and a nice happy ending. The angst department is the only place this seemed lacking, but that’s okay with me.

The first story, "Lucious" by Lori Foster, was kind of uninspired, but I finally DNFed it when she described the hero kissing the heroine as "raping her mouth." Just no. NO NO NO. Nooooooooooooo. He tries to shoo the dog away but after making eye contact with the pup he notices that the stray is oddly perceptive and has taken an interest in the dangerous scene unfolding on the front porch. When Steve Seeder notices the dog he laughs at the joke of a police dog and attempts to kick the mutt out of cruelness. Before he can, the dog lunges and takes the suspect down. Grateful that the standoff ends without injuries, Lucius names the dog Hero and takes him home with him. Once there he decides he needs pet related help so he runs next door to his tenant/neighbor, Marci's apartment. He's excited to find that Marci's twin sister Bethany is back in town and sleeping over. He's always been able to tell the twins apart. For one, Marci is looney and claims she's a pet physic, that's why he needs her help now. And then there's Bethany, with her smart mouth, quick wit and attitude, she...she just affects him and he's decided that it's time she knows and accepts that as fact. This was one good. It's way better than Marci's story which is featured in A Very Merry Christmas. I liked Lucius and thought the author did a great job adding a lot of depth to him in just over 80 pages. He owns an apartment complex and every tenant he's accepted into his complex is a female who was struggling through life when he met them. He even lives on site to protect them all. Plus he's adopted this sad, neglected pup. And he makes his feelings for Bethany known is a sexy alpha kind of way. And he wears clothes with funny sayings. He's a dream boat. It's About Time by Erin McCarthy ❤ ❤ ❤ ½ While all of her friends are getting married and having babies, Trish Jones still can't even get a guy to call and cancel a date properly. She's been stood up. Again. Guys are intimidated by her, at least that's what Joe, the bartender at her local hangout says while she orders a water and sulks. Are men intimated by her? She's a domestic violence prosecutor for the county, has great friends, great apartment, good hair, what more could she do? Joe motions her attention to the end of the bar where his friend Caleb is working on his sixth beer. Joe confides that Caleb's ex is getting remarried so Caleb is celebrating and plans to take a women home tonight. Sounds like every other guy on any given Friday to Trish until Joe says Caleb's been celibate for two years. Wow! Joe prods her and asks that she go distract Caleb from his goal since he's in no frame of mind for that plan. After a few hours of sometimes begrudging conversation Caleb and Trish realizes that they couldn't be more different and nothing could work between them. That doesn't stop them both from hoping. But he's drunk, needs a ride home she's not going to go there anyway. At least not while he's drunk. Good thing he's staying over and they'll have the morning. There are a couple recurring jokes (like the lizard) that were really cute. Lots of funny and steamy moments too. And the heroine was very original, very independent and bold in a comfortable way. Sometimes, if a heroine is too bold I get cringey. I mean I like a badass women as much as anyone but I also like femininity and vulnerability and if not that then I appreciate a women with confidence who fixes her mistakes. Trish was really confident and just the right amount of brazen for me. I liked this story a lot. This story is #4 in the Bowling Friends series. You briefly meet or hear about the other couples from books #1-3 in Trish and Caleb's story. Wish You Were Here by Amy Garvey ❤ ❤ ¾ Mackenzie Pruitt has just inherited a beach cottage and plans to renovate an old shed in the backyard into a photography studio. She hires the only man she can afford and she's expecting a contractor with thinning hair, beer breathe and Plumber's crack. What she gets is 6+ feet of sculpted, tanned, gorgeous Leo Dawson. Mackenzie is inspired by Leo and says she'd like to do photo essay on the rehab project. Something simply, black and white, with Leo and the shed, his tools, just him working and possibly a small spread in a local magazine and some great PR for both of them. Leo instantly says no to the whole idea and tells her to find a new contractor. Mackenzie can't afford another contractor so she reluctantly agrees to no photographs. But it gets her wondering why he's so adamant about not being photographed. Leo has a few secrets from a past he hides and doesn't want anyone to remember. But when he thinks his relationship with Mackenzie could be the real thing will he trust her with the truth or walk away? This story was ok. Waiting on the big mystery to be handled got to be a little annoying. But the story was good and the characters are decent for a short story and the steaminess is there.

The women might be identical, but it's Bethany's attitude and sense of humor that draw Lucius. That and the fact that, unlike most women, she doesn't fawn all over him. Meanwhile, Bethany just broke up with yet another man who was dating her to get to her sister. She has always tried to ignore her attraction to Lucius because he already has a building full of women falling all over him, and since he knew her sister first she can't be sure that he likes her for herself (rather than as a stand-in for Marci). This is a very short story, and there's not much to the plot beyond the two main characters finally getting together and getting to know each other. Oh, and a random dangerous situation so the sexy alpha male can show off his skills. I'm OK with that - it's only about 60 pages long. It was a little strange because I read Marci's story first, but the plots don't really depend on each other. It's About Time - Erin McCarthy (3 stars) Trish Jones is suddenly surrounded by friends about to walk down the aisle, and it's making her introspective - and maybe a little lonely. After getting stood up for a dinner date, she heads over to her favorite pub to sulk. Caleb Vancouver's ex-wife is getting married, and he's hoping that enough beer with get him to break the 2-year dry spell since his divorce. Trish gets a bit of Caleb's story from the bartender and decides that the last thing he needs in an alcohol-fueled night to regret. A hard-nosed, elegant prosecuter and an enormous construction worker who married his high school sweetheart seem like a terrible combination, but maybe they have more in common than they thing. And perhaps they are just what the other needs. Note: comparing oneself to dog hair on black pants in the middle of a sex scene is distracting. Sometimes, it's ok to simply use a descriptive verb and leave out the simile. And the term "crotch-potato?" What the...? And yet, despite those little bits of weirdness, it's a pretty sexy scene. I like the characters, but with a story this brief (shortest in the anthology) there's not much time for plot. The chemistry is the definitely the main component of this story. At least they get to know each other a bit before falling into bed, but it's definitely rushed. Wish You Were Here - Amy Garvey (3 stars) Mackenzie Pruitt just inherited a beach cottage and has ambitious plans to convert the shed into a photo studio. Between fixing up the cottage, renovating the shed, and her busy work schedule, She doesn't have time for anythng else this summer. Leo Dawson, the contractor she hired to convert the shed, is way too hot not to be a distraction. She'd love to photograph him, but as soon as she suggests it, he shuts her down. Leo is drawn to Mackenzie and has a hard time resisting her, but he's worked too hard to regain his privacy and anonymity to let her ambitions destory all that. He doesn't trust her when she agrees not to photograph him, but his intense attraction to her is making it hard to keep his distance. The longest story in the anthology, the pacing was good. I'm trying to figure out why I didn't connect more with this story. Maybe because I couldn't identify at all with the heroine? There's nothing exactly objectionable about Mackenzie, but I didn't particularly like her. Leo is interesting and generous, so I think I kept reading to see how things went for him. If this had been a stand-alone book, I probably wouldn't have finished it, but as the last of 3 in an anthology, I muscled my way through it. Overall, I would not read this again, but I've encountered worse.

Luscious by Lori Foster- I read another story that matched this one previously so I was familiar with some of the characters. Lucius is a SWAT cop who owns an apartment building he rents to women that he saved basically. He has a crush on one of his tenants twin sister so when he finds her crashing on the sister's couch he takes advantage of the situation. This story was sweet and pretty sexy. I would have liked if it was a bit longer but it was good nonetheless. I was only a little put off by the mainly female perspective, leaving Caleb to seem a bit unsure of himself at times. It was refreshing though as well. Wish You Were Here by Amy Garvey- Mackenzie inherits her deceased aunt's home and wants to make it her own by remodeling. Leo Dawson takes on the job. While under taking the work he and Mackenzie barely resist an attraction and soon find themselves in a relationship that neither of them were aware of happening. This story was short, sweet and pretty fun. My only issue was with Leo's long hold out on telling his secrets. I would read Amy Gravey's stories again, I rather liked this one.

Contemporary romance stories. At least they got it right this time & only have 3 authors. So, I'm going on vacation & decide I need to review my Bad Boy books. So, I take them all along for the ride :) Lori Foster - 4 stars. Protected sex. Now, this the LF I know & love!!Lucius (AKA Luscious) is a handsome, hot swat cop. Erin McCarthy - 4 stars. This is a "bowling friends" short story. Trish's to be exact. Now, Trish isn't really my favorite out of the friends. She's a bossy ball busting attorney. In this story, though she's kind & funny. She's still bossy & tries to be a ball buster, but Caleb's a match for her. They actually talk for 4 hours before having protected sex. Afterwards they agree to date for a while. A Good story! Amy Garvey - 3 stars. Unprotected sex :( Only Ok. Woman hires man to fix up her photography studio. Man has a secret he can't tell woman. They jump right into sex with her not knowing a thing about him. Secret comes out in the end.

The stories were so-so. I always prefer full novels over these short stories. There's just not a lot of time to get to know and love the characters and the romance is always hurried. Luscious by Lori Foster (2 stars) It's about a man named Lucious (his women tenants call him Luscious). He's a hunky SWAT guy and he takes in a stray dog after the dog saves the day in a hostage situation. It's About Time (2 stars) The main woman in this short story is Trish. She was appeared in earlier short stories by McCarthy where each of her other friends were the main characters. I believe this is the fourth one. Trish is a confident no-nonsense lawyer who hits it off with a guy she meets at a bar who's "celebrating" the marriage of his x-wife. Wish You Were Here (2 starts) Mackenzie is a photographer who inherits a house that has a shed she wants to renovate into a studio. She ends up falling for her hunky carpenter.

I enjoyed all three short stories, probably the first and last the best. Hunky guys, quick read. Luscious - Lori Foster I liked him, hot SWAT guy who adopts a mangy mutt, Hero - combo that will almost always work for me! Bethany was a bit annoying but together they were fun. Little bit of danger and action and overall good short story. It's about Time - Erin McCarthy He was hot and huge and sexy, she was assertive and a bit over the top. It was a one night stand - very hot - but that was all... I enjoyed all three short stories, probably the first and last the best. Hunky guys, quick read. Wish You Were Here - Amy Garvey Never read anything by her before and it was good. Nice story. Leo was hot and they actually developed a relationship over the span of a few weeks. There was a bit of a mystery but nothing dangerous. Cute story.

while all three stories just ended basically in the middle of nowhere, they were still enjoyable. Foster's story about a SWAT officer who has to face a personal hostage situation, McCarthy's story about the one-night-stand that is so much more than just that, and Garvey's story about a former musician that had me listening twice to music all day and wondering what happened to them in the last couple of years. Interesting, if somewhat blunt and short, stories by some good story-tellers. Maybe the while all three stories just ended basically in the middle of nowhere, they were still enjoyable. Maybe the whole trick to enjoying a short story collection was for me to start reading books that had anthologies from Lori Foster.

Yum! Another tasty combo of bad boy inspired novellas. Lori Foster seriously never disappoints me with her stories and neither does Erin McCarthy for that matter. I recently read A Very Merry Christmas, another anthology featuring a Lori Foster novella, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Luscious (the BBofS novella) contains some of the same characters from Do You Hear What I Hear (the A Very Merry Christmas novella). Bad Boys of Summer is steamy, and at times down right sizzling. P Yum! Another tasty combo of bad boy inspired novellas. Luscious 4 Stars I have only read a few short stories by Lori Foster and while this one wasn't my favorite, it was still really good. How could it not be with a "luscious" SWAT officer to read about? It's About Time 3 Stars This story was also not as good as some other short stories I've read by this author. I did like it though. Maybe I just need a break from these anthology books, this is my second one in a row. Picked this up for something light to read. I really like Lori Foster and Erin McCarthy. I had never read anything by Amy Garvey and I was glad I picked this up. I always like to find new authors to read. All three were hunks and pretty ladies with something stopping them from taking the first step. Then they do and it is fireworks! As I said earlier, I needed something light and fun and these three novellas accomplished that. Of course, the only down side is they are too short. :)

This book is filled with light, fun and easy stories filled with women ending up with a guy they don't normally. The first one had a guy named Lucius, who the apartment building full of women have named Luscious, which had me laughing, but what was even more funny was that they called him this to his face. If you are looking for a "beach" read this would be the book to pick up. This book is filled with light, fun and easy stories filled with women ending up with a guy they don't normally. Dawn ♥ romance

I enjoyed these three steamy stories. 1) Jobless Bethany is staying with her sister and meets neighbor Lucius, a SWAT officer. 2) Prosecutor Trish meets brawny Caleb whose ex-wife is getting married tomorrow. 3) Photographer Mackenzie hires carpenter Leo to renovate her shed.

Liked each story for different reasons. Thought Lori Fosters might have been the best of the three though. Like to read this kinds of books....love how quickly they get the point....don't drag out everything. Liked each story for different reasons.
