An interesting period piece, certainly not a timeless classic, but an enjoyable read. The book was short, yet charming in many ways. As someone interested in local history, the mentions of historic communities at a time when California hadn't yet become a state kept me interested. The love story aspect of the book was only mildly interesting and the ending was a bit of a let down. An interesting period piece, certainly not a timeless classic, but an enjoyable read.
