I've always found Mike Grell a very underrated creator, and this series only impressed that on me further. Great art with great colors, and a great story as well. Mike Grell can say a lot with just a picture, but his words aren't bad either. We see flashbacks of Sables origin here, as well as a plot to assassinate an African ambassador who's attempting to unite the continent. But all is not what it seems... This one is a must for any Jon Sable or Mike Grell fan. If you dont know Sable or Grell, an I've always found Mike Grell a very underrated creator, and this series only impressed that on me further. Rereading this just reminds me once again what a terrific writer Mike Grell is. I loved Jon Sable back in the day when it was one of the original indie comics. An action adventure comic that was so different from the mainstream superhero fare but was still full of thrills and spills. The return of Grell and Sable was one of the surprises of the turn of the century and Bloodtrail is more of the same, this is such a great comic and it is a joy to find myself back with Sable, Myke, Eden and Sonny Rereading this just reminds me once again what a terrific writer Mike Grell is. Really looking forward to the follow up to this.

Fantastic art with great inking and a great story. Fans of Jon Sable will, however, find this plot a bit of a retread or a retelling of of Sable's origin tale. Grell experiments with telling the current story with the flashback on the same page and the layout doesn't always make it clear which is which, but because I was familiar with the plot from the previous iteration it wasn't too difficult to sort out.
