er det virkelig noget chok at jeg, personen som så filmen 47 gange sidste år, har givet den her fem stjerner

WARNING! There are big, hairy rodents in this book! But don't worry, they won't bite... and the art is great. WARNING! There are big, hairy rodents in this book! But don't worry, they won't bite... and the art is great.

Un libro de arte precioso e inspirador que me ha hecho llorar tanto como la película.

Hard to believe this book was on my to-read shelf since Christmas 2009, but there we are! Had to literally dust it off before I started it. It's a really beautiful book, obviously. It's split into three main sections, basically rats, food and Paris, and food was my favorite, because, well, food. Rats were interesting too, with info about how they worked hard to make rats appealing and also differentiate them from one another. Paris is obviously beautiful but I did feel that this art was a little less original - it's shorter than the rest, though, so it was all good. I also felt like there was enough written info - some of these Art of books are all art and no text, and I like a good balance of both. My favorite piece of art was a pencil and marker very detailed layout of the kitchen (page 78), with an honorable mention to the Nutcracker-like art of Remy amongst the cakes with powdered sugar-snow falling on him (page 102).

Ratatouille is one of my favorite Pixar movies, and this book gives great insight into the film. The concept art is beautiful, and I especially loved the quotes from the artists about the film, plus the entire chapter devoted to their research in Paris. Wonderful.

Still the best book on concept art that I've seen (and the film is utterly lovely of course) Still the best book on concept art that I've seen (and the film is utterly lovely of course)

I loved the book, seeing the inside thinking of the movies is amazing and how it evolved is just lovely. The only thing I would is that the design of the book itslef could be better, but that's just me being picky. To be fair, I'm giving this four stars. During some sections of the book I just blanked out and had no idea what I'd read, but that could also be because there were so many distractions when i watched it. But....for the most part the information was interesting and the art was great. The kitchen details were cool and it amazed me once again how detail oriented animators have to be to make the film real for us viewers. A way to keep himself company without seeming crazy haha Oh and Colette's section was awesome. it's inspiring to know that a film director saw it important to make an "ordinary" girl a lead. That women. can be attractive and respected whether they are gorgeous and have a Barbie figure or not. Wish everyone thought that way. Good book over all, and excellent background for the models and art. The very realistic and mouth-watering art! Pixar's passion for this idea and Paris and food was clearly seen and their efforts appreciated, at least by me. That's again Karen for the "inside scoop" on one of my favorite films :)

In typical Pixar art book fashion, the pages are filled with concept drawings, visualizations and the thought process that went behind the production of Ratatouille. Through these pages, you'll come to a realization that their success is no fluke. The creators traveled to France to research on the restaurants, food and the people. The effort and level of detail they put into the research can be clearly seen from the artwork from the book. The concept art and renders of the food in 3D made me imagine how they will taste if they were actually real. You'll be able to see a lot of character designs for the humans as well as the rats. Sculpted models are also provided in photos. The storyboards, as you'll see plenty, are followed strictly in the movie. The compositions and lighting are the art form itself. This book is filled with life and food, just like the movie. It makes for a perfect coffee table book.

I love Rataouille it's one of my favourite Pixar movies, so I was really excited to find the 'Art of' book. The majority of the writting in this book is quotes from those who worked on the film, rather than a detailed backstory of the development of the plot ect. I liked that there wasn't too much to 'read' because if i'm trying to enjoy an art book then I want to get lost in the art. However, I didn't feel like there was a lot a detailed art in the book, most of the art is of sketches or are very small in scale and so you can't marvel at the amount of effort and detail that you can see in the movie. Some sketches like those by Carter Goodrich and the light studies were phenominal, they belong in a magical childeren's book. But other's I found less then mezmerizing. I did like the book because of the odd gems and I LOVE the story. But i thought it would be better.

Ratatouille is, artistically, one of my favorite Pixar animations. It was wonderful to be able to see a bit behind the scenes and see how much hard work goes into these productions.
