Shirey Corder s a fifteen year survivior of Breast cancer and this book is what she learned from her journey, There are 90 daily devotions that tells Shirley's Corder own story and after each story she asked three questions and then she includes a little prayer. I am going to include two direct quotes from this book, for examples, as why I think this book is good for other issues as well as Cancer. On page 120 "In the sermon on the Mount, Jesus pointed out that one day has all the problems we can cope with.We can't live tomorrow today. We don't have the strength, the courage, or even the faith to deal with the future, God promises to give us strength for today. When tomorrow comes, then he will supply what we need to get us through the challenges of that day too. Here is the prayer for this example " Lord God, thank you for bringing me this far, You know the worries and fears I have for the future. Help me to live for today-and trust you to give me the strength I'll need, when I need it. Thank you. Amen. The next example is on page 183 " Dark colors are essential to any tapestry or painting. Without them, there would be no picture. A frame that contains no color is simply a black shape. Our lives are not black shapes, nor are they kaleidoscopes. They are beautiful, orderly designs meant to show God's glory. No matter how black things appear right now, the light and dark shapes eventually blend together. Take heart. Brighter colors are coming." The prayer "Thank you, Lord, that there's a reason for times of dark as well as of gaiety and beauty. Help me to concentrate on the now and trust you with the final outcome. Amen." Of course these quotes are explained in the book but to me they offer hope as well as the whole book. I don't usually included links to where you can a buy unless it is required by the one who gave me the book for the review but in this case I am because the book is that great! http://www.deepershopping.com/item/sh... as well as other online sites like Amazon and etc. I received this book from www.bookfun.org to read and post my honest opinion.

Beautiful! My heart sings and my strength is renewed. Although Strength Renewed is a 90 day devotional for breast cancer patients, it is not limited to cancer patients and close friends and family. Strength Renewed speaks to everyone that needs comfort, hope and some strength. Strength Renewed is not written by someone who knows about cancer, but is written by someone who has walked this road, who stood up every time her foot stumbled, who made choices with what she had in her hand. Her hand was Beautiful! My heart sings and my strength is renewed. Although Strength Renewed is a 90 day devotional for breast cancer patients, it is not limited to cancer patients and close friends and family. Strength Renewed is not written by someone who knows about cancer, but is written by someone who has walked this road, who stood up every time her foot stumbled, who made choices with what she had in her hand. Her hand was never empty. Shirley Corder is a breast cancer survivor, but most of all, she is an author that loves the Lord and the life He has given her. Strength Renewed is a 90 day journey that helps people process their prognosis, and find encouragement. Cancer, like any illness or crisis, affects the people around you. Therefore Strength Renewed is a great opportunity for family members to take part in this devotional journey, together, united. Each day begins and ends with the Word of God. In the middle is the content, protected by the Word of God on both sides, functioning as the shield of truth and safety. • The day’s devotion begins with the Bible passage to be read for that day. • The Bible passage is explained intertwined with Shirley Corder’s own personal experiences, in a beautiful song of praise to God. • This is followed by three questions for the reader to answer. These questions are honest, practical and to the heart questions regarding the journey of cancer. These questions are not always easy questions, and some of the answers are not easy. It takes courage to work through these questions. • The questions are followed by a prayer you can pray. • The devotion ends with a Bible verse. One of the greatest lessons I learned by reading Strength Renewed, is that one should not be ashamed of having cancer. It is not a swear word, it is a name given to an illness. The name Jesus is much bigger than the name cancer. Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, as part of their media review bloggers program at Bookfun.org provided this Book to me for free in exchange for this honest review.

Shirley drew strength from the Lord and held onto Biblical truths as she struggled through the good days and the bad days. The book contains ninety devotions that were easy to read and provided wisdom and encouragement from her real life experiences. She speaks with compassion as she shares her mistakes as well as her triumphs through the various stages of her journey to becoming a cancer survivor. Shirley Corder did an extraordinary thing in this book. She took you on her personal journey through breast cancer, but didn't focus it on herself. It focuses on the things one can expect on that difficult road and how to cope with those ups and downs. Although the book focuses on breast cancer, it is valuable for anyone going through any kind of trial. The scriptures she uses are the same scriptures that helped me travel through some very difficult family times. If you are someone you love is facing cancer, Shirley Corder's book of meditations (90 in all) will bring hope and encouragement. Each meditation has a scripture, thoughts for the day, questions to think about, and a prayer. Shirley has walked this road herself, so the words she uses aren't simple pat answers. An inspirational, comforting, and informative book for anyone facing cancer, especially breast. Ms. Corder shares her times of fear, despair, joy, and courage in an articulate manner that is easy to read. Her scriptural choices and interpretations are meaningful and helpful.

A great resource for patients and caregivers alike. The short devotions are managable reads for those who tire easily and the questions asked leave one thinking deeply. Shirley Corder's Strength Renewed: Meditations for Your Journey through Breast Cancer is not just for those who suffer or have suffered from breast cancer...it is also for those who suffer from depression, anxiety, lethargy, pain, and all other "cancers" in life. From page one I found myself uplifted by Shirley's words. Although I have read the passages of Scripture before, I reread them with new understanding and new life. Just as her book provides new life to hope. I am listing a few things at the beginning that captured me so thoroughly that I went back and reread that chapter of meditation: " Jesus and his disciples came across a man who had been blind all his life. 'Who's to blame for this man's blindness?' the disciples asked Jesus. 'No one," Jesus replied. He explained that God's power would be revealed as a result of the man's disability.... ...Cancer is finite. God is way bigger." (p.25) "...Despite his difficult circumstances, Paul believed that Christ was in control. He believed God could use him even while under house arrest. Instead of lamenting his misfortunes, he continued to encourage others...'Is it possible that I am right where the Lord wants me to be? Does he want to use my circumstances to reach out to others?" (p.27) "...Job went through far worse than I did...Throughout that dreadful time, Job saw no sign of God's love and compassion...The tortured man examined his life and searched for where he'd gone wrong...he'd been disobedient at time. He'd questioned God's wisdom and even cursed the day of his birth. Yet he'd attempted to live close to God. After all he went through, Job arrived at the conclusion:'God knows every step I take.' Job only had to believe." (p.38) "I read of a family who had a time of prayer based on 2 Chronicles 20:6. One of them prayed, 'Are you not the God in heaven?' Another family member followed with, 'Are you not the God who sealed the mouths of lions and spared Daniel?' Then another added, 'Are you not the God who fed five thousand people with a few small fish and loaves?'" (p.40) This one is my favorite for it shows the magnitude of who God is. Something that our puny brains will never truly grasp. "...Stephen...walked into the ward...presented me with a small stuffed lion...No one else to comfort me, I pulled him close and tucked him under my cheek. That little lion...gave me something to hang on to." (p.48) This last one is poignant. Is not Jesus the Lion of Judah? Is He not who we should hang on to? Throughout this book I was met with new ideas, new wondering, and new hope. Shirley Corder was right. God put her where she was needed and used her for His Glory. A highly recommended book, one that far surpasses all other meditation books I've encountered, this is something that no one should be without. Have it sit next to your Bible and refer back to it again and again...and have a highlighter and pen to make notes.

I have never experienced cancer, but I would certainly find these meditations helpful – it is comforting to know someone else understands what you are going through and sometimes we need the reminders to seek God’s help during troubling times. I especially liked that Shirley continues with the meditations after treatments ended – the transition back to “regular” life can also be difficult and her insights are thoughtful and nurturing. I also really liked the section in the back that gives advice to others on how to support the person with cancer. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone as they begin their own journey through a cancer diagnosis.

This is an amazing book of meditations for women going through breast cancer. Each page gives some thought provoking questions, things to ponder, words of wisdom and some simply amazing well thought out prayers. I was very impressed with this book. I, personally, do not have breast cancer, but have friends who do and my grandmother (raised me) had a double mastectomy from breast cancer, so I wanted to read this book to see how it would help others, and even possibly me should I ever need it. This is an extremely encouraging book for a hard time. When I was diagnosed as having breast cancer a friend of mine connected me with a breast cancer survivor, Rita, she is friends with. Rita immediately sent me an eBook copy of this wonderful book. It was an incredible blessing to me. Shirley is so open and honest about what she went through during her treatment. She even shares a number of times when she had lapses in good judgment and the lessons that God taught her through them. I found each This is an extremely encouraging book for a hard time. Great book on meditations. I find this book can help more then a person with cancer, it can help those in the family, caregivers, and friends. As a recent breast cancer survivor, I found this book to be very helpful and encouraging. I read a devotion a day & often identified with the author's emotions as she shared her cancer journey. I was also encouraged by the daily Scripture and prayer that matched the theme beautifully. I enjoyed her sense of humor & transparency that is woven throughout the book. The end of the book includes special Bible verses for the reader and helpful suggestions for our friends and families.
