This was a book written intended for a younger audience than me, but it's beautifully done and I enjoyed it very much! A very quick, concise, easy to follow and understand read, one of the best "quick overviews" of artist and art history that I've come accrossed. It I ever have kids, this book is going to be important. Also, I would love to give it as a gift to intelligent kid relatives if my siblings have children someday. Nice arrangement, colors, information. Loved it. :) This was a book written intended for a younger audience than me, but it's beautifully done and I enjoyed it very much! While this book had great information about some artists, they never once credited a female artist, such as Frida Khalo or Georgia O’Keefe. Another thing, a common phrase used at the beginning of every persona summary is that they were the most influential artist of the ___ century. So that means that there were several most influential artists of one century so it’s hard to tell whose talent exceeded some. I wish they showed more art instead of 3 (if they were lucky) pieces that hold little mea While this book had great information about some artists, they never once credited a female artist, such as Frida Khalo or Georgia O’Keefe. Genre: nonfiction Plot: Gives brief, 2-4 page reviews of famous artists, including a basic biography, pictures of some of their works, and a timeline of their lives. Ordered chronologically. Includes a table of contents listing every artist, a glossary, information on the works pictured, and an index. Gives enough information to pique interest without overwhelming or losing interest. Not quite all-inclusive, but its pages are full of biographies of different artists through time, from Giotto to Andy Warhol. It's neat to see the trends of different generations of artists as the time goes by. I like how every artist had a timeline of their life, with different bullet points highlighting different key moments throughout their lives. Even though art styles have changed throughout the centuries, it's still nice to reflect how much art has enriched our lives and our culture. Usborne books seldom fail to deliver -- this is a great book for an intro/refresher for kids and adults alike. It focuses more on the artists than their works, though - and I REALLY wish there had been more pics of their pieces. Nevertheless, it's a great reference, put together chronologically, of artists through the ages, from Giotto to Warhol. This would be a great resource for homeschooling. 4+ stars Usborne books seldom fail to deliver -- this is a great book for an intro/refresher for kids and adults alike.
