   Covers mainly traditional board games, both professional and entertainment, from ancient times to modern day. The author does touch on miniature and computer war games, but that is not the real focus on his book, so he spends very little time on them.

   An extensive if somewhat dry look at war-themed games through the ages. The majority of the book looks at games from ancient times through to around 1950. There is very little coverage of modern wargames, which the author writes is due to their enormous numbers (a reasonable if disappointing explanation).
