Two things I like about Greg Foley's books--the artwork and the simple text he creates in each one. Very sweet story. Two things I like about Greg Foley's books--the artwork and the simple text he creates in each one. Very sweet story.

Hmm, some of the pages would be fun to act out with a storytime group (close your eyes!) while others might be tricky (stand on one leg! hold your breath!!). I saw the ending coming, but toddlers probably won't. THESE BOOKS ARE PRECIOUS. This story is just as cute as the other Bear books. The illustrations are great with really nice colored backgrounds. I really liked this book.

On the first page is a little bear standing on a snowy hill and making a wish on a star. Turning the page you see the bear is seated as twilight begins to color the sky. The text explains that he "sat and sat, but nothing happened." On the next page he is joined by his friend Mouse who asks what he is doing. Bear explains he is waiting for his wish to come true. Mouse sits down and joins him. Each page introduces another friend, all of whom give suggestions about helping wishes come true. (at which point you can suggest to the listening children that we all say "shhh"). Fox says to close your eyes and cover them. (Listening children can join in closing and covering their eyes). Elephant says to "stand on one foot". (Listening children can stand up and stand on one foot). Turtle says to "hold your breath." Finally Bunny arrives. This story is absolutely delightful and so fun to share! It also has built-in wiggle break options.

Although I don't love this heavy-edged style of illustration I did love reading this book last week to the kids in our quick little "read a story beside the giraffe" stories. It had a wonderful pattern to the words, an easy addition of one animal per page and a lovely ending (all the moms said ooooooh when I got to the last page) + a nice little message of appreciating your friends. It's short, with sweet little sentences on each page, so it won't tax a wiggle audience, and the animals are very e Although I don't love this heavy-edged style of illustration I did love reading this book last week to the kids in our quick little "read a story beside the giraffe" stories. It's short, with sweet little sentences on each page, so it won't tax a wiggle audience, and the animals are very easy to recognize like an owl or a mouse. The bear is wearing a cheerful scarf and has a nice expression on his face. We had a lot of fun talking about what all of the animals are wishing for and thinking about until the end... when all is revealed. The wish is a beautiful one and this is a great book to read aloud or give to a young child to love.

I definitely enjoyed this simple, sweet story of a bear who wants to make his wish come true more than Foley's more artistic and consciously quirky titles. I think this would make a fun story for a toddler time because of the actions built in to the text.

Bear makes a wish upon a star and waits for it to come true. His friends wander up one by one and all try a different method to help the wish come true. When Bear's wish comes true he reveals that his wish was to be together with all of his friends. Even though it doesn't mention holidays, this would be a good winter read because of the snowy backdrop to the story and the fact that stars are easier to see during the winter season. This story is a great story about a wishing bear! It's a great story to read to little kids because the storyline is about making a wish upon a star and being together with friends! It's a very very short book with easy words so that children could read on their own and not lose interest! It could also be a book that could be read to the class and could be a predictable book for child to figure out what will happen next! This story is a great story about a wishing bear! Bear decides to make a wish. His friends come one by one to give him advice about wishing on a star until the wish comes true. A sweet story about the goodness of being together. The words are simple, but friends never need too many words to share a moment. Themes: friendship, wishes, animals Reviewed from a library copy.

The fact that I guessed the ending on the third page did not make this story any less sweet. It's so charming and like all the Bear books, just right for storytime. Would be good for toddler storytimes. Appealing animal characters. The end is maybe a wee bit sweet, but the focus on friendship is nice.

Sweet book about wishing on a star. Bear's simple wish comes true when all his friends join him. Not as meaningful as "Don't Worry Bear", and "Thank You, Bear".
