Wonderful holiday mystery! There's no right or wrong time to read a Christmas mystery. This was very well-written, and I certainly had no clue who the killer was. Wonderful holiday mystery! REVIEW: Pleasant, quick, easy-to-read cozy mystery. This is the first in this series that I have read. I found it complex with lots of red herrings and a nice variety of characters. Rosett balanced the mystery with a glimpse into military life and its constant moving and deployments. I loved Ellie's work with Marie and couldn't begin to imagine how a professional organizer would work with someone who dealt with hoarding issues. Good sub-theme and well handled. Ellie was an engaging amateur sleuth and her Christmas organizing tips at the end of the chapter were a nice addition. I liked the fact that Ellie was a family person with husband, kids, a dog, carpool responsibilities and active in a church. So many women sleuths are widowed old ladies or single/divorced women so that was definitely a nice change of pace. I will definitely be reading more of this cozy mystery series. FAVORITE QUOTES: "It wouldn't be the end of the world if my Christmas cards arrived late and I knew I'd find wonderful presents for the kids. We were together, everyone was healthy and happy--those were the important things."

I am a big fan of Sara Rosett and her cozy mystery series that features Air Force wife Ellie Avery, and her latest book, "Mistletoe, Merriment and Murder," is one of her best works to date - which is saying a lot because all of her books in the "Ellie Avery Mystery" series are such a delight. The cast of characters, headed by the smart and lively Ellie Avery are so interesting and personable - I especially appreciate the character of Ellie's husband Mitch, the quiet but supportative Air Force pilot who always has Ellie's back. And the addition of helpful holiday hints that Sara includes at the end of each chapter are the icing on the cake! If you enjoy cozy mysteries, you'll love this book! If you are looking for a fun holiday read - you'll love this book. If you are looking for a great book to spend sometime enjoying - you'll love this book! (Can you tell I kinda liked this book?)

Book 7 in the Ellie Avery: Mom Zone Mystery series by Sara Rosett is a great read! Ellie is an organizer extraordinaire and who doesn't need more help organizing! This is the first in this series that I've read and I probably won't read anymore. I couldn't drum up much feeling for Ellie, one way or another. The book only held my attention for short spans at a time, so it was difficult to get through. Picked this one up because of the holiday theme and a cute cover. But books that don't hold my interest like this one will definitely keep me from reading further in a series. This is the first in this series that I've read and I probably won't read anymore. Rosett's books are fluff reads for me. They're light, they don't require much to process, and they're great to read after reading a book with substance. So many people in the reviews for this book say they were so surprised at the killer and they never could have guessed who it was...well, the reason is because there's not enough detail given to allow the reader to be able to sleuth along with the mystery. The lack of detail is very obvious in several scenes, including the (being deliberately vague to try to prevent spoilers) trash bag sequence, the (first) porch sequence, the closet sequence, and other similar considerations. Things are thrown in to bridge the gaps present, but those things are ultimately meaningless to the story. I enjoy the series as my "fluff" reads, but truthfully, I'm going to keep buying them used, not new, until I start to see a shift back toward the quality that was present in the original three books in the series.

Murder mystery--White elephant gifts are exchanged and there is quite a shock + surprise that someone uses her swap gift as a murder weapon. Ellie is now the suspect besides being Mrs. Santa for her Air force husband and her kids....She now has to solve the murder and find the killer. She needs to beware of the murderer who is out to find her.

It was okay. The 2nd I’m reading un a series. I am still not finding the main character really the most likeable... Nor are any of the other characters... Except perhaps Max, and he hardly appears on this story. 😟

Trying to enjoy a little holiday cheer the squadron spouse club gets together for a party. Dollycas's Thoughts I love the television show Army Wives and this series could be a spin-off - Air Force Wives. I immediately loved the characters and the setting. The mystery was well written and fast paced. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. The holiday theme was a real treat as I have attended a few Christmas parties myself with a White Elephant Gift Exchange. My favorite character definitely was Ellie's husband Mitch. He reminded me a lot of my husband. The quiet man behind the scenes until you are just about to take things too far and he steps in to try the voice of reason. It's doesn't always work but these guys try. I will admit this is my first Ellie Avery mystery. The author sent me a copy telling me it could be read as a stand alone, which was true. I am usually a stickler for reading series books in order but Sara Rosett was very smart. I enjoyed this story very much and now I will be reading the rest of the books in this series as soon as possible. :) This is a wonderful holiday read. Several organizational tips are included too! So whether this is a new series to you or you already love Ellie and her family, this is definitely a book to add to your pre-Christmas list!!

Setting her new career up on the Air Force Base, Ellie intends to keep busy when her husband is deployed with his squadron very soon. She’s delighted that her husband will not have to leave until after Christmas and will be able to spend the holidays with her and their two children. However, Ellie is not so delighted to learn that a rival organizer by the name of Gabrielle Matheson is also setting up a business in town and is stealing clients right out from under Ellie’s nose. One night Gabrielle even crashes a Christmas party that Ellie is throwing for the Air Force wives and immediately begins to steal one of Ellie’s customers during the festivities. But when Ellie and her rival get into a very loud, heated argument things go from cheery to downright mean. Feeling bad about her display of bad temper, Ellie makes a date to meet Gabrielle at the home of Gabrielle’s sister Jean in order to apologize. But when Ellie arrives, she finds Jean dead. When Gabrielle appears she tells the authorities that Ellie found the body and points out the fact that the murder weapon used was the ‘gag’ gift that Ellie had ‘drawn’ at her own party. But, as with most cozy mysteries, the two women end up setting their anger aside and putting their heads together in order to unmask the real killer. This is the seventh installment in the ‘Ellie Avery Mysteries’ and is a completely fun read that will keep readers busy for a nice, long afternoon. Ellie and her friends are great investigators, and not only is the crime interesting, but the in-depth look at how families get along while living on a military base is extremely poignant. Enjoy! Until Next Time, Everybody, Amy (Review to be printed in Suspense Magazine)

Christmas for Ellie is a frantic paced holiday filled with gift wrapping, parties, church and school plays and events, and more. This Christmas should be a special one as her husband, Mitch is due for deployment shortly afterwards. Along with all her other chores of the season, Ellie has a party to host for the military spouses, and a new organizing client, Marie. Adding to the stress, Ellie has new competition for the few clients she has. Gabrielle Matheson, sister to Jean Williams, a retired military spouse, has moved to be closer to her sister and is stealing Ellie's customers away. After a verbal confrontation at the party, Ellie agrees to meet Gabrielle at Jean's house to try and settle boundaries for their businesses. Ellie arrives to find, not Gabrielle, but the body of Jean, murdered. Detective Waraday, familiar from past novels in the series (this is book number seven,) just doesn't believe in coincidence and 'likes' Ellie for the crime. In addition there are small break-ins and robberies going on in the community. This book was fast-paced, sometimes even rather hectic for me, action. Even the new organizing client turns out to be more than expected. I have to say, I didn't find much merriment in the book. It was a clever crime.

I am not a middle aged army housewife that likes to solve cases, but thought I could still find some common ground. I also had trouble identifying the foreshadowing clues. It was obvious that one certain person was involved, but when the true killer is revealed, I still found the motive hazy. Also, it seemed like the novel was headed toward having Gabrielle be a main part of it, and then she just stops appearing until the end. I think there may have just been too many characters overall for such a short novel - husband, best friend, nemesis, murder victim, hoarder, and a million more army wives and detectives. I guess it does open itself up to more books.

This is another great adventure with Ellie. I was happy to see another Ellie Avery mystery and Ms. Rosett did not disappoint me with this one. It was good to visit with Ellie and her family in this mystery set on a Georgia barrier island. Characters are well-developed and feel like old friends that I haven't seen in a bit.
