Useful when learning about the GL diet and how to reduce sugars.

Having had indications of being hypoglycemic, I need to be especially careful with my food intake and combinations. This book further explained the glycemic LOAD principle, which I found to be far more useful than the glycemic index. Another interesting tidbit that I use to this day: Potatoes baked will have a high impact on your blood sugar, while potatoes boiled do not. There is a huge difference in the effect on your body, just depending upon the way they are prepared. There is a huge difference in the effect on your body, just depending upon the way they are prepared. It's valuable nuggets like this that Patrick Holford brings to his readers. I didn't major in Food Chemistry, and was able to understand his scientific explanations with no problem. I also always have cookies with milk now.

Disappointing. I want an explanation of how to live on a low carb type diet without so much meat. I am pretty sure that low GL is the way to go, but this book didn't really tell me how to do it. He says to stay under 40 GL points per day but does not give GL points of any foods, so your only option is to follow the recipes in the book ... which I never like to do. Still, I guess it taught me I can probably follow low carb principles but start eating carby foods that are also high in fibre, like Disappointing. But I'm a control freak and would like to be able to crunch the numbers ;-)

Although (by some accounts) Holford may be a little bit of a charlatan, snake-oil salesman this book can be useful to get an idea about how to move away from sugar etc. Its helpful but not the whole answer.
