Oh, I had so much fun with this book! It lived for years (literally) on my reading list. It was one of the last paperbacks I bought before going digital and I just forgot about it for a long time. Now I totally regret it, because it accounted for some great laughs. It was one of the last paperbacks I bought before going digital and I just forgot about it for a long time. Now I totally regret it, because it accounted for some great laughs. Amber is trying her best to succeed professionally and also to be the best (future) wife to Ed. Of course you can already see from the start how doomed her relationship with Ed is. Actually, half the fun is realizing how oblivious Amber is to something that should be totally obvious. Does that make her silly? Maybe. But how many times have you ignored the signs for something that should be clear as day just because you don't want to deal with the harsh reality of it? Add to that Amber and Ed's eventful move from London to the countryside, Amber's totally lunatic mother and boyfriend, a dog with boundary issues and digestive problems, a village where drinking alcohol at 10 am is totally normal and where everyone knows they neighbor's darkest secrets, an aga with a mind of it's own and no ready meals in sight, and some weird love potions - and you have a recipe for disaster - or for a lot of fun, depending on the perspective. I found the last part of the book a bit muddled - the ups and downs of the romance with Alex and the end of Amber and Ed's relationship were all a bit too complicated to grasp - hence the four stars rating. In addition, this is a thoroughly British book - if you're not British you'll probably miss (or have to look up) a few of the references to people and TV shows. Other than that, Amber Scott is Starting Over is a book I would recommend to anyone in need of a couple of fun, no-strings attached reading hours and some good laughs.

Actually 4,5 stars but I really enjoyed this book, so let's have 5:) This book follows the same pattern as other Ruth's books: a nice girl, a bad boyfriend, naive girl, bully boyfriend but it's okay, I know what I can expect and I get this plus a very easy, funny and witty writing. Amber is a very nice and warm person but her naivity just was overwhelming. Nonetheless, she has finally believed what kind of person her boyfriend is. I have actually knew it from the beginning, but for Amber better late than never:) I have liked all of the characters, the village, the animals, Ken was a separate hero of this book as well, it was all so real and all so neighbourly, and I have actually had a smile on my lips reading every page of this book. And this is what I like:) Waiting for the next Saberton's book. Impatiently:)

Amber Scott is 29 years old and lives with her Fiancée Ed who she has known since University. Amber loves her job and loves London. Ed announces he has a new job as a partner in a law firm in Cornwall can Amber give up her Career, M&S Finest and Starbucks for Cornwall? I liked this book, it was hilarious at times, I felt a bit sorry for Amber as Ed was horrible to her at times, I would definitely recommend. Amber really grown on me but this is such an easy read, than everything was so predictable to happen ...

Ruth doesn't let her readers down with the antics of Amber moving lock stock and all to Cornwall. On route she finds a dog which on adds to the humour! The descriptions by Ruth only make you really believe you are there...specially if reading on a hot sunny day :) A good thick book that gives you a lot to get your teeth into ... making sure the reader gets a quality read as well as quantity

I really enjoy light romantic books, but I just couldn't get past how utterly naive/blind Amber was! I was just on the third or fourth chapter and wanted to scream at her to get a clue. It might have been the fact that I had just finished a very intense, historical fiction as to why I just couldn't get into this book. Might give it another try later.

This is a formulaic chick lit novel right down to the revelation at the end that true love was staring the protagonist (Amber) in the face the entire time. It took a few twists and turns to get to that point, most of which were amusing. I quite liked the characters, apart from Amber who was so dumb about a variety of things that I just wanted to shake her.

    Narfy

As far as chick lit goes, this one is fairly standard except for the fact that the protagonist is infuriatingly dense. Ed is about the worst human being ever and there seems to be no reason for her to be with him. There's "believing the best in someone" and then there's being "just plain stupid". And Amber falls into the latter.

What a wonderful read. Ruth Saberton has written a truly lovely novel, that has had me laughing out loud, smiling, close to tears and lusting over a certain Lord Alex Verney and overjoyed with every moment he and Amber had. The animals Ken, loopy and Mabel had me in fits with their escapades as did the parent folk. Amber's mother was a law to self, and so very entertaining.

What a great read....had me in stitches at some points and really did enjoy the ending.... Well worth reading! It's the first of ruths books I've read but I'm keen to read the other two now!

I cannot believe that Amber, could be so naive, as to believe Ed.s working late, meetings etc, etc, and no sex!! surely it should have dawned on her that something was wrong? Loved the green slime incident, and Amber,s funny hippy mother. good book enjoyed it

I wish I could do a 3 and a half rating. I really enjoyed the story and setting. I just had a hard time with how much bad behavior this girl put up with from her utterly revolting fiancee and how long she allowed it to go on. It was hard to take a main character who was so wishy washy.

A new author to me and I quite enjoyed this light read - loved the dog!!

It is funny and entertaining... althought the heroine is very anoying at times.

Made it to page 120 then chucked the towel in. Sure the younger chick lit reader might like this one, but I found the wise-cracking jokiness of it quite uncomfortable.
