Country recluse Viscount Lord Atherton is the bearer of a family curse. He must wed and conceive an heir before his birthday, or live with the painful physical changes that turn him from man to wolf, several times a month. But Atherton has another dangerous secret. Yet the more time Atherton spends with Hastings, the more he wants to know. And when Hastings displays a lust for sex play that rivals his own, can Atherton trust Hastings enough to share the truth behind his quest? As Atherton loses his heart where he least expects it, he wonders if he can fulfill his destiny, or face a lifetime of pain from the curse?

Reviewed for Hearts On Fire Reviews Two of my very favorite things- shifters and historical. I could have done without the D/s aspect of it, so that the focus was more on the difficulties, both the fear of death due to sodomy charges and what can and can’t be due to the curse. I absolutely adored Michael. He may be a submissive in bed, but he has an iron core. Bravery is not the absence of fear, but moving forward in the face of fear? That is Michael Hastings. I absolutely adored Michael. He may be a submissive in bed, but he has an iron core. Bravery is not the absence of fear, but moving forward in the face of fear? That is Michael Hastings. He chooses his battles, but he stands up for himself and what he believes to be correct. Lord Atherton, it’s more of a stretch for him. While yes, he is lonely and cursed. Atherton needed to marry by his 33rd birthday (so arbitrary) and produce an heir. This would get rid of the shifting to wolf. There was something about this that niggled. Then about three-quarters through the book Michael puts his finger on the problem I had been having. Yes, he needed to marry and produce that heir. But the way he got rid of the curse was by pushing it off onto the baby. The curse doesn’t disappear, it merely transfers from one Atherton generation to the next. So as Atherton’s father cursed him, so he would do that to his child. That didn’t sit well. This is a unique story, combining elements of paranormal and historical. It was heart wrenching at times, because of what that era was like, even though Atherton’s situation (paranormal aside) was stretching belief (the servants) but still, there was the pall that hangs over everything. Atherton wanted that one last moment before he put aside his real self for good, and Michael? Well, Michael just wanted to be himself. This is a great historical, and a good paranormal (when the wolf is offended Michael calls him “good dog”, he warns Michael by taking hold his balls with his teeth. Excellent warning). There were parts that I just loved (Atherton telling Michael what he wants to do to him, but ending with “I want to find you to find me afterward and tell me that it wasn’t an error in judgment, nor offensive to your person”. Love that. Recommended highly for historical fans and for shifter fans.

I like everything about this book, even the fact that the writer seemed to insist (because of the multiple instances) that the word 'breaches' mean someone's trousers instead of it being breeches and the word 'intension' means intention. Hilarious. Great story. I wish it was linger -oops- I mean longer. (fun, fun, fun). Feral Lust by Mia Watts is a historical gay romance with paranormal twist. Main character Viscount Lord Atherton is a lonely werewolf hiding out on his reclusive country estate. He needs to get married and produce an heir to end his life of pain and change every full moon. Being unsure of his social skills, Atherton hires Michael Hastings, the third son of an earl to coach him in the niceties of high society etiquette. The chemistry between the two men is interesting. Being unsure of his social skills, Atherton hires Michael Hastings, the third son of an earl to coach him in the niceties of high society etiquette. The chemistry between the two men is interesting. There's passion, but there's uncertainty. Atherton plans to fulfill his goal of marriage, despite his attraction to Hastings, while Hastings is not sure what to make of the secretive Atherton. Watts develops a passionate romance between Atherton and Hastings and the exchanges between the two of them are colorful. Feral Lust has some week points, namely, the werewolf aspect of the story. Watts short changes the reader regarding the nature of Atherton's "curse". Wolves are not solitary creatures, but Atherton appears totally isolated. How is that he's the only remaining member of his family? An estate the size of Atheron's takes a sizable staff to run. Where is everyone? How did his family come to be under the "curse"? Feral Lust misses several opportunities to develop a more interesting and entertaining story, particularly the werewolf aspect. The sex scenes with the bondage flavoring are fine, but Feral Lust seems like it's an opening shot at a story that could be very fine. Unfortunately, Feral Lust appears peopled only by Atherton, Hastings, and Mr. Leedy, the solicitor. Feral Lust is a nice read worth 2.75 stars, but it needs work. Sure I admit, the story was short for a novella, but even so truly enjoyed. Complex emotions, between Michael and Atherton, were strong trump in this plot. I don't really know what to write about this story, but I do believe it was deeply romantic. And I enjoyed it fully! Sure I admit, the story was short for a novella, but even so truly enjoyed. Nice enough. There are other books for Mia that I adore to bits and would read again and again. This isn't one (not even close) but it was fairly nice. I liked the historical side of it, and that it's paranormal. An interesting combo. Nice enough. There are other books for Mia that I adore to bits and would read again and again.
