I enjoyed the story as it's something that I could see happening between my friends and myself. The story is told in a real way with real characters. I can relate to a lot of the feelings that they went through. The story was about 4 African American teens going off to college and the growing pains they all had to go through. They each had their own hurdles to jump over and for the most part they all dealt with them. Their names were Destine, Jordan, Ericka, and Mya and they all went to TSU for I enjoyed the story as it's something that I could see happening between my friends and myself. Tons of drama in this book and I think a lot of women have gone through the same type of drama the characters went through. I think I would have liked to have seen Destine and Jordan become friends again, but you can't have it all. Now I did find a bit of typos and misprints, but I knew what the author was trying to say so it didn't take away from the story. I think that is something that will need to be addressed by the publisher and not so much the author.

The book was won through the Goodreads.com First Read contest. Wow. I will admit that reading the title and seeing the cover I did not expect to like this book. The book has some wonderful characters with a great plot. There was some typo's in the book but I believe this book has not yet had the final editing. The characters Mya, Erika, Jordan and Destine all struggles with everyday life. Trying to get a degree while in college, studying, boy's, each other, everything. I believe this is the author's first work but it is worth reading. The bunnies and I give this book 4-Carrots.

I won this book through Goodreads Firstreads giveaway. I wasnt too sure what I should expect from it, but all in all, I could relate to most of the story. Trying to juggle finances, a gpa and drama with friends. I enjoyed reading the growth of these women and I liked how the book was broken up. I sure wish the ending would have been better, but then again, we all have to do what feels right for us at any given moment with what life gives us. Kudos to the author on a great debut novel.

Drinks Drama & Degrees is a novel about four African American girls, from various walks of life who meet during their first year of college, and the trials they go through in discovering who they are and what they want to be. I thought the charachters were well developed, and the story was written in dialect, which made it easy to get into the heads of these girls. I loved the plot and seeing the development of the characters through the years, each character grew and learned from their experiences and it was nice seeing them overcome the different obstacles they each faced in their lives. While most of the story was great, the reason I wouldn't give it 3 stars is the vibe of homophobia it gives off. One of the male characters was gay and as soon as everyone found out they basically just wrote him off as a bad person and someone they wouldn't want to assoc I loved the plot and seeing the development of the characters through the years, each character grew and learned from their experiences and it was nice seeing them overcome the different obstacles they each faced in their lives. I won this on first reads. It was a really fast book, short chapters and definitely interesting but it didn't seem real. All of the characters had such complex, dramatic histories and it seemed like they were all trying to one up each others drama. I liked that the focus changed between the 4 girls but I felt like I didn't really get to know or connect with any of them. It seemed like there were too many story lines going at once so none of them really got the justice they deserved. I won this on first reads.
