A far from ordinary story of rich people who do not know what to do with their resources and their own relatives and lives. The love stories, adventure stories, tragedies and surprising developments kept me hooked on reading the book straight through from beginning to end. Is it truly an antidote for Downton's Abbey" It absolutely shows a different perspective of the life of rich and poor in the beginning of the 20th century in England. Definitely worth reading........ I only read Brideshead Revisited, but I couldn't get Goodreads to pop up just that book. Supposed to be about the end of great country houses and the families that inhabited them, but it came across as about disfunction: in families, societies and countries. A ho-hum book.
