What a silly story! My 5yo and I liked this very silly story. The cakes looked good to munch. We might have to bake some of them for ourselves.

My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.

Funny, quirky My students love this book! Aside from the fact that the illustrations are funny, its a great book for learning rhyming words and a good book for developing word associations and inferencing!

This book was a fun read! A book full of rhyming words always makes things more interesting to the audience. Some areas became more repetitive than others, causing me to lose interest. Overall this book was really fun to read, but it may not keep the attention of every reader.

This is a fun rhyming book that is created for the Kindle by the author of the bestselling (Kindle) children's book "If You Have A Hat". He crafts an upside down cake for an acrobat, a carrot cake for some rabbits, a pumpkin cake for witches and their cats, a banana cake for a monkey, and a cheese cake for a mouse, just to name a few. After a very busy day slaving near his hot oven and churning out so many designer cakes, Jake is exhausted. How does he relax after a hard days work? He pitches off his hat, kicks back in his favourite chair, puts us his feet and .... the icing on his cake to reach his nirvana? Well check it out and see for yourself. This fun story will have imaginations working overtime trying to think up other cakes to bake for special recipients or even better yet? Head off to the kitchen and bake a cake together that is made especially for your own personal tastes and enjoyment. What type of cake would you choose to gobble down and savour to the very last crumb? This book is perfect for beginning readers but all ages will enjoy the storyline and especially the whimsical illustrations.

"Jake Bakes Cakes" by Gerald Hawksley appropriately is subtitled "A Silly Rhyming Children's Picture Book". Jake does indeed bake cakes of every sort. The story proceeds through a series of whimsical cakes Jake bakes, such as an upside down cake for acrobats, cheese cake for mice, carrot cake for rabbits, etc. Appropriate and silly illustrations accompany each type of cake and its associated rhymes. Some of the types of cakes are not necessarily real; for example, oat cakes for horses, and other "Jake Bakes Cakes" by Gerald Hawksley appropriately is subtitled "A Silly Rhyming Children's Picture Book". However, I am definitely NOT an expert authority on every type of cake made by every culture, so for all I know they may indeed be real cakes I have just never heard of! This is a cute story. Jake is certainly an imaginative baker! After reading this story to a child, it might be fun to see if the child can think up other types of cakes for special purposes, consistent with the story. This story has nothing objectionable in it, and is appropriate for all ages of pre-readers and early readers. I have no qualms about recommending this one for youngsters on your shopping list.

This book is definitely for young readers and may cause loss of interest for any adult reading the book more than once. Children seem to love it and laugh through the goofy text and illustrations and after all that’s what matters. This book has the ability to gain the confidence needed in young readers to continue their growth as a more developed reader.

One ton fun! Sweet, fun rhymes. And cake, too? Yum! Count me in! An imaginative book to read to your young ones (since some of the vocabulary is not early-reader simple). And the illustrations are just perfect-- brightly colored and simply drawn. Jake is my kind of guy, always thinking of others and their wants and needs. (Even robots!) I want to see Jake open a bakery in my town. (Sigh.) However, I would have liked more PUNCH at the end. Perhaps a plot-twist ending? If I was Jake, and I baked One ton fun! Sweet, fun rhymes. If I was Jake, and I baked all these cakes, I would have an extra-special treat waiting just for me. Anyways, to each his own. Maybe Jake is just that do-gooder who lives to please and doesn’t need much for himself. As for me, no one has ever accused me of having a plain Jane brain!

The illustrations are cute and children will enjoy the rhymes but I wish the author had put more thought and effort into the types of cakes that Jake bakes. They're mostly unoriginal and some are cliched or stereotypical ie banana cakes for monkeys. It's also a little long, about a quarter of it could have easily been cut out. Still, it's cute and sometimes funny and I expect most children will laugh at the rhymes and pictures. Cute rhyming picture book for preschoolers. Jake bakes a cake that is appropriate for any type of customer. Wonderful and clever one line rhymes will delight young listeners. For example, Jake bakes fish cakes for fish, upside down cakes for acrobats, tin can cakes for robots, coffee cakes for sleepyheads and iced cakes for penguins. The illustrations are colorful, humorous and appropriate. Children will want to hear this book over and over; they will be reading it back to you in no time.

Great, awesome, cool, and amazing The words of a seven year old who is learning how to read. He thought this book was great and awesome and cool and amazing!! He wants to read it again tomorrow after school! Overall, as the parent I liked the book too. It's simple, not too many words on one page so my son didn't get overwhelmed with that. I think Jake could have baked fewer cakes and it would have been more enjoyable. A little long for a picture book that has Jake baking a cake on each page. But, alas, it was free so I can't complain too much. I think Jake could have baked fewer cakes and it would have been more enjoyable.
