Kyra Morgan (38-year-old bodyguard) helps out a childhood friend (Michael Hunt, 33) whose sister (Amy) has gone missing after witnessing a murder… I really enjoyed this one. I liked the settings---the swamp, the Everglades, the Florida coast… I liked the main couple and I thought it was sweet how Michael had a crush on Kyra back when they were young, and that she was five years older than Michael. I enjoyed the suspense in the book as Kyra and Michael searched for Amy. I needed a book to read that would fulfill the newest book cover requirement (FOG) called for in my Goodreads Book Cover Bingo challenge. So, I scanned my bookshelves, both real and virtual, and came up with a few possibilities. I am really glad that I chose to read hidden in the Everglades. Not only does the cover have some really good swamp fog, but the story inside is a very well-written one. Hidden in the Everglades has a strong female main character. Not only does the cover have some really good swamp fog, but the story inside is a very well-written one. Hidden in the Everglades has a strong female main character. I wasn’t sure when I read the back of the book if Kyra would be a really tough woman who felt she didn’t need a man. That isn’t the case at all. She is plenty tough and a well trained former police officer. However, she has a well balanced soft side, which is definitely needed in a book with suspense AND romance. On the flip side, the hero who hires Kyra is no wimp. However, trying to find his missing niece and keep her alive after she witnesses a murder was not part of the training he received when he became a doctor! Kyra and Michael know each other from way back. As feelings resurface, there are issues that Michael must overcome before he can truly open himself up to the possibility of caring for Kyra. There is plenty of action and suspense in this story to keep you reading till the end. I enjoyed the swamp setting, as I have not read a lot of books set in this area. I felt that the author created interesting, well-rounded characters and an exciting storyline. You can read this review on my blog at: http://brittreadsfiction.wordpress.co...

All opinions expressed in the review are my own.*

I liked the character connections between Kyra and Michael. That said, the plot made a few too many jumps in the process of finding Michael's sister Amy, and then bringing in the terrorism angle. I would have preferred more time to know Amy. I liked the character connections between Kyra and Michael. She assists her brother, Dr. Michael Hunt, in finding her and getting her to safety. She had known Michael years ago. He was the kid brother of her best friend who used to bug her. Now, still five years younger than her, he had a different appeal. She was falling in love with him! But the good doctor had his own issues. He was burned out from doctoring and had lost his girlfriend in a car accident. Now he was taking over the raising of his teenage sister after his older sister went into missions. The action took place in the everglades. It wasn't as exciting as I expected, but it was still interesting to read how the rescue took place. The conclusion was a bit weak, compared to other LIS novels I've read. The romance was a bit stifled, but the two got together at the end, so I guess that made up for some. I really liked Amy (?), Michael's sister who was running. She had it rough - lost both of her parents when when she was quite young, being raised by her sister, than having to adjust when her brother took over her raising. She did a lot of things wrong, but I'm sure her brother sternly disciplined her in the end and they all lived happily ever after...

When i received Hidden in the Everglades by Margaret Daley in my mailbox I was immediately intrigued by the cover, with a beautiful scene of an alligator in a foggy swamp. The intriguing part is the stamped words GUARDIANS, INC. in the corner. The first page reveals it to be a company of female bodyguards, which sounds cool. It turns out the tagline is: Born to protect, bound to fall in love, which I love! The first two chapters hooked me, with immediate action but it was all downhill from chapter three on. I was offended by the repetitive dialogue and descriptions. Then the Hero started having flashbacks which are awkwardly dropped in the middle of conversations and just took me out of the story. The few mentions of faith felt forced, like an afterthought put into the story to make it a Christian romance. I would have stopped reading it (around chapter seven, when the Hero, "slanted a look toward Kyra, her face a welcome sight to his tired eyes." Mind you, he had spent the night at her house and then spent the afternoon investigating a lead with her! Did he forget to look at her until that moment? It was the last straw for me.) but I'd received this book specifically to review it. As I got closer to the end, I kept up hope that the HEA would redeem the book from the two star rating it had plummeted to, but alas it did not.  The strength in the book are in the action scenes, which are realistic and full of tension.

I picked this book up to read because I wanted something quick and good to read that would hold my attention. Hidden in the Everglades did not disappoint me in the least. From the first page this book grabbed my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat. For a short book it packed a great punch. Throughout the book I was kept trying to figure out what Amy was up and how she was involved in the murder and why they could not find her. Even though the sheriff is not considered one of the two main characters I liked him and when he and Kyra's aunt started talking I thought that was cute. Michael and Kyra find themselves on quite the adventures trying to help Amy, you will find yourself trying to figure out where to look next for her. This is the first book I read in the Guardians Inc. series and I would gladly go back now and read the rest of the series.

I had high hopes for this book, and maybe it got better, but I gave it my requisite 20 pages and gave up. Two people were just shot and murdered next door, the assailant is running loose in the neighborhood, and the neighbor (a handsome doctor naturally) is flirting with the female cop (who is stunningly beautiful and smells like vanilla of course)and reminiscing about the good old days. Really? And I have a low tolerance for the excruciating details about mannerisms and facial expressions. I mean, who notices facial expressions like that? Who thinks like that? Especially with a corpse lying at your feet? Sorry. It's just that I was intrigued by the title and the good reviews, and now I've given up on yet another novel. Onward to the next.

So I read this because I needed something with a reptile on it, and that's pretty much why I ended up finishing it. Imagine a Hallmark movie with a suspense storyline and that's this book. Male lead character's sister goes missing, which means apparently it's time for lingering looks and laughter with female lead while occasionally remembering he's super worried about his sister. Also, female lead is supposed to be super tough bodyguard/cop and the guy keeps going all 'you woman, me man. me prot So I read this because I needed something with a reptile on it, and that's pretty much why I ended up finishing it. I've been an avid reader of the Love Inspired "Romance" books, this is my first from the Love Inspired "Suspense" I had a very hard time getting into this book, I was completely bored...I did however enjoy the last few chapters, perhaps because I knew I was close to the end. I think the author had the ability to write this mystery, chase, suspense, detective, love story. However, I wish they were intermingled more and not such specific blocks of theme throughout the book. I will try more of her books but this was boring the first half. It need the above genres blended more.

Love books with a lot of suspense in it. The story most definitely was full of suspense. This book was so good I finished it in two days. Some books one can't put down for long, but race to get back to finish the story, find out what is going to happen, are they going to be found. Would highly recommend this book. I liked the character connections between Kyra and Michael, but the plot made a few too many jumps in the process of finding Michael's sister amy and then bringing in the terrorism angle. I would have preferred more time to know Amy, since she is so central to the plotline. I love it that Kyra the leader of Guardians Inc. is still in her business and is getting married. I thought for sure she wouldn't.
